According to gamefaqs it looks like you need to start a new game.

BTW - Yes, it is a glitch.

Have you gotten all of your characters' prior limit breaks?

Yeah you have to have all their other limits before you can learn the level 4 ones.

I had a problem with this even though I'd got all of the other limit breaks. Started the game again, did exactly the same and it worked. It seems there's a problem for certain copies of the game where it works first time round and never again, or doesn't work first time round, but does for every time after that. Not had a problem with it since.

Yeah, I remember reading about this a while back. That is true --- if you've learned all the other limits and the manual still doesn't work, then the game is glitched. fififafa --- if you haven't learned them all yet, though, then you're probably in luck. Learn the others first and then try the manual again and you should be good to go.

what im wondering about though is what exactly are the requirements to learn each limit break? I've heard from many people that you have to defeat a certain number of enemies to get them and i've heard that you had to use each limit break a certain number of times to get the next.

It depends on whether you're trying to get /1 or /2 that determines whether the next one comes from uses or kills. If I recall correctly, to get to /2, you have to use the /1 a certain number of times for each one and then to get to the next level, you have to kill monsters. And the number is different for each character. I can find a list of the requirements if you want one, or if you just want to do it yourself, just check GameFAQs. I'm sure it's on there.

Tell you guys what I'll post the requirements to get each limit break, at least this is what I figured out it might vary for each character, I heard that but the basic principle is the same -

Limit Level 1 # 1 - You start with it
Limit Level 1 # 2 - Use #1 eight times.

Limit Level 2 # 1 - Finish off (Meaning deal the killing blow with that character) around 40-80 enemies.
Limit Level 2 # 2 - Use #1 of Limit Level 2 six times.

Limit Level 3 # 1 - Finish off 40-80 enemies again.
Limit Level 3 # 2 - Use Limit Level 3 # 1 four times.

Hope it helps, use the limit manuals after you've learnt all of them (for each character)

If you're far enough to have all the limit breaks other then Lv4 then your probably far enough into the game, forget about the lv4 limit breaks for a while and just beat the game, you'll see omnislash anyway.

Not worth resetting the game for then tbh, if it is the glitch.

This numbers are just rough estimates to be sure. Some of them are rather higher, and some of them are rather lower. And it definitely does vary for each character. And if you want to see Aeris/th's, you have to get it before the end of the first disc, because, after that, it becomes unavailable.

Lol "it becomes unavailable" I can tell you someone becomes unavailable.

Yeah I think we should do some "research" as to the exact numbers ^^

ROTFL, yeah, that was the cleverest thing I could think of to say --- "it becomes unavailable."

To get the second Limit of every level you have to use the first 8 times. I believe to get the first of each level you have to kill a total of 100 enemies with the character you're trying to get the limit for.

I do this near Costa Del Sol. I use Matra Magic on the Beach Plugs. Also, if you have a way of hitting the nesting doll enemy (darn it, I always forget the name) for a very small amount, you can get about 5 of them on screen at once. I usually run away from battle one time and then use Chocobuckle to hit them for 1HP**. It takes about 3 whacks per "doll" to make them spit out the next generation.

**This only works for the US version. In the Japanese version the damage of Chocobuckle isn't calculated solely from the number of times you've run from battle, it's multiplied by either the character's level, or the average level of the party. I can't recall exactly.

Indeed, thats the fastest way. I usually get the Beta enemy skill first, plenty of tents, and run around levelling somewhere (for the first disk, the forest outside the temple of the ancients is probably best, plenty of fights with 4 - 6 enemies). Cast Beta on them and they should die in one hit. Dont bother counting; you'll easily lose count just keep going untill you get the next limit break, nice way to get levels too.

I had Barrett and Cloud onto Angermax and Finishing touch by the time I got to Nibleheim this way.

Oh yeah, Beta is a wonderful enemy skill. I love enemy skills, and yeah, massive group killing is the best for limits. Never let it be said for this game that if you need to find large groups of enemies to kill, it's a hassle. :D

Don't mean to stretch this thread any further but what makes Limit Breaks so appealing?

Jimsour
02-20-2007, 06:12 PM
The power they have?

Revaninja

You can deal more damage with it then you normally can with the Character. Some give a special effect such as Cross slash having the ability to stop the enemy. Some like Aeris can make you invincible and fill up everyones Limit gauge. Others can give elemental Damage such as Vincent. There are alot of Special effects added on to Limits that help out in the long run. Plus you usually get them in Boss fights so it helps finish them off faster.

Personally, I think the game would be quite impossible to complete without the Limit Breaks. In my case, I don't think I would be able to finish it.

Oh, the game is quite completable without limit breaks, you just have to rely on other strategies, that's all. Limit Breaks are fun, but they certainly aren't an end-all and be-all.

Well except for the End though Sephy needs to die with just that right special Flare if you know what I mean.

Indeed, but it would be quite annoying not being able to attack first time you get a limit break message ;)

Beating the Weapons without Catasrophe or Omnislash would be a pain, mainly due to the time it takes to cast KOTR.

Jimsour, good point. I forgot that the Limit command cancels out your attack command in this game.

Another thing that attracts you to a limti break is... actually having clouds finishing touch in the first parts in midgar :P that was hard and very annoying but paid off :)... + i kill one of the hardest bosses on disc one with one limit break of clouds metorain that was great im thinking of videotaping it and putting it on youtube :P

No, but they are flashy. :D

Once you know what to do for getting Limit Breaks it becomes a simple task.

It's basically what Gharmos said, kill 60 enemies, get the second Limit, use the first Limit in the set 6 times to get the next set of Limits.

Doesn't matter what type of enemy you kill, thats the good part. So you can go back to the Kalm areas or something like that and just slay the hell out of everything.

k their flashy but in those hard spaces where you have your limit break it gets the job done thats what is good about them. and also it adds a bit of adventure to the whole game and a bit of a side quest
