You do realize that Nintendo probably paid for the ad space, right?

So? Most would refuse if they're in MS' position, competition in consoles and all.

For god sake. So many threads about the Wii. I played it and its cool and all but do we need every little bit of info about it?

Apparently so. It's good yeah, but I don't think that MS would mind, provided they were making money

Trillian doesn't have ads ^_^

Also: the Wii is just okay at the minute with the limited, and generally poor, range of games. Zelda is super good though, it is sucking away all my free time ;(

Of course, I just found it funny. I wasn't trying to make any sort of statement really; it wouldn't surprise me if I saw PS3 ads on there come next March.

If you don't like it, don't read it, douche bag.

I agree. It is a launch though, and most console launches are plagued with bad games; at least there is one awesome game! Also, I think Wii Sports is highly underrated; there is the opportunity for loads of fun in that game, especially if played with friends.

wii sports is great with friends. the main reason it has me so excited is that the remote system works really rather well, and it doesn't feel awkward or anything. it's more of a proof of concept, almost, i'm just waiting for da devs to capitalise on that in some innovative ways.

also zelda rox my sox.

Haha, well, if I were MS I'd do the same thing. Making money off Nintendo for a period of time that the ad is on there? That their a competitor only yanks up the price for a dinky little adspace, and it's very likely that people who use the MSN interface either:
a) Already have their minds made up for/against buying it.
b) Won't buy it anyway (Think normal people over 25 or so).

(Think normal people over 25 or so).

So, you are suggesting that owners of Wiis are either under the age of 25 or abnormal in some fashion? I'd be interested in knowing how you came to such a conclusion.

Honestly, I haven't seen but a few Wii threads in the past couple of weeks. Especially since late November.

Care to bring up the survey supporting your claim? Because I know a lot of MSN users above and below 25 who are dead set on getting a Wii.

There's one right there. I could trudge around the google internets, but yours seems to suffice much fine. If people are already 'dead set' on the Wii, the advertisement hasn't done much, since their preference of the Wii is, as you've said 'deadset'. Likewise, I would assume then that the people who use MSN are somewhat computer literate or completely so. Of these people, there are people like businessmen, etc. who have enough worries keeping their golden parachutes steady and I doubt they will play with their Wii when there is work to be done. Then you have people interested in next-gen consoles, but what's the point of an adspace on MSN of all places? People looking for information on the Wii obviously are not going to rove around MSN advertisements, and people who are interested in it are more than able to google for "Wii".

The bottom line is, the advertisement space is at most a "lulz we'z got an ad on MSN" rather than a really useful ad. The ones people pay attention to are on your TV screens, not the obnoxious "HEY YOU CLICKED ME, 5000 AD WINDOWS, ATTACK!" ones.

As to Mossy, I know many people over and under the age of 25 who are in possession of full and working Wiis. Their Wiis, I assure you, are in excellent condition, and men at the ripe age of 96 still have some use left in their Wii.

Nice to see the good ol' backhand commentary part of my posts is still working. In case you couldn't tell, it was a caustic remark with the intention of causing a possibly humorous reaction and set the tone as a laidback,uh...'dissertation'.

That should be intellectual sounding.

That you responded to it in the way you did makes me think you missed the point of what I posted. It would appear then, that the internet is indeed, serious business and 'b' was right all along.

I agree on Troubadour, no one actually clicks those ads on msn, but they still there and you learn the name of the product.

No, I got what you were saying fine: it was a bad pun. You did not however make any pretense toward answering my question regarding why you think only abnormal people or under 25 year olds would play a Wii. If you did answer it in some substantial manner, fine, but the fact you didn't leads to me just ignoring it as a crock of shit.

Meybe the point of the ad is to let people know the product. I have met many people in my country who were xbox or playstation fans and would buy an xbox360 or a ps3 without even knowing the name of nintendo's new console. After many of them found out about the Wii, they changed their mind. And you know that msn is used by everyone, including gamers. Seriously i havent found anyone who plays Counter Strike (or any online MP game) not using msn.
