where is this creature? i need some ribbons. my guide book says it's in ozmone, but is there certain ways to make it spawn? or do you have to walk for hours and hours?

Oh, so that's how you get the Ribbon? Interesting. I have no idea, though. Hang on... lemme check something... hmm, according to GameFAQs, you can also get this from Vishno, a treasure in Henne Mines east section (need to check that one) and a treasure in the Pharos.

That might be easier than trying to bring down a level 99 chocobo.

You know, this would be an interesting kill. Has anyone here ever even come across this thing much less killed it? Word on the street is that it's pretty tough to even find in the fist place.

I would imagine such a creature isn't available to fight until after The Pharos?

So the hunt is on then.... I posted the picture just to show the thing really does exist, so anyone who finds him and beats him be sure to post how you made him spawn and all that... internet info is sketchy due to the lack of experts that can be found here..... :)

Oh goodness, there's gotta be something about this on GameFAQs or somewhere. Checking... ah, here we go. All of the information I'm finding says that you get this sucker to show up by killing a bunch of chocobos in the area of the Ozmone Plains near Jahara and make sure not to leave that section. Another document says that this is definitely the rarest monster in the game and you only have a 1 in 255 chance of spawning it.

Wow. I want to go plug my PS2 in and load my game now just to be the first on the forums to report killing it.

Eh, maybe later.

Ouch - this is starting to sound like the ultimate hunt...Loch Ness Monster anyone?

I've been away for a bit so I'm not sure if Agent finished the Speed Run yet (kudos for the effort BTW), but if so, my money's on Agent for taking down the Red Chocobo first. Any takers? :-P

Still no luck. I did see a red one frolicking in the distance and out of range. I got all happy thinking this was it, but even though it was red, he was only level 23. I will find it. I will kill it. I will take its ribbon.

It's been said that it's supposed to be in the Ozmone Plain, but so far, nobody here has reported successfully taking it down. Remember that the encounter rate is supposed to be very low, so it's largely a matter of luck and you have to have some really good luck to get it to show up.

Jesus, I wanna give this a try, lol. I have unbeleivable luck with finding and obtaining rare things in games.

However, I don't know anything about the extras in this game yet, thats why today Ive decided to read all these lovely threads about them.

okay, since we have many takers,. should anyone find/kill this little bastard,. the winner should reveal the exact location, maybe other things they've done to find this (i've beat all hunts,i was at this level,etc...) maybe you got to be lv.99,who knows..

but let's make this interesting,. someone should make a sig for the person "THE OFFICIAL FINAL FANTASY GOD"!!

i don't know how to make this interesting, since this forum doesn't have cyber ca$h,.

I had an idea while trying this last night. Maybe it has something to do with how many chocobo feathers you have on you. Once you accumulate 99, the lvl 99 chocobo appears, which is why its reported you need to kill many chocobos and its rare that it appears.

And if we're not supposed to leave the area, that is queer. It takes forever for things to respawn and sometimes nothing does. When they do, it's one at a time.

Agent0042
01-16-2007, 04:54 PM
Hmm. The info I read said 1 in 255 chance. But that could be totally bogus. If you wanna try collecting 99 Chocobo Feather, be my guest. But Chocobo Feather is a Loot item, if I'm not mistaken, so if that were true and you sold it off, you could never encounter this.

You know what, I'll do some more checking on this later. There's got to be more info about this out there.

Ok i found and beat this red lvl 99 chocobo today, and i did it twice, not on the same save file. After i did it the first time i reload the game save before and did it again. Dont ask me why i must be f***ing insane or something.

Anyway i thought it was something to do with 99 chocobo feathers and the first time i did it i did have 99 chocobo feathers from all the kills, as i was also going for a 99 chain of black and red chocobos. This i also did the first time and actually chained 101 before the lvl99 red chocobo appeared. My three on screen characters were all lvl99, i also had 99 gyashi greens which would make more sense to me than the chocobo feathers but whatever. You can also leave the area (Haulo Green) and go to the other areas which i did to get the chains going, both times. It dropped a ribbon and a gemsteel but i did brake the chain before i killed it, i thought what the hell its here now not thinking about the rare drop. I stole an elixer from it as well, without theifcuffs.

The second time i encounterd it after reloading previous game save i didnt have 99 chocobo feathers only 30 so i know its not that, also i only chained 54 black and red chocobos so it cant be that, i did have 99 gyashi greens so i cant say for sure about them and my on screen characters were all lvl99 again. This time it dropped a ribbon a gemsteel and a high arcana, i didnt brake the chain, i also stole a megalixer without using theif cuffs.

The lvl99 red chocobo appeared in the same place on both occasions and that was where the chocobo footprints are in haulo green, the part where you access henne mines on a chocobo. I did notice that both the times before i left the area and went back before it spawned some of the snakes were beserked by the garif hunter, weather or not this has anything to do with it i dont know. Speaking of the weather the first time i encounterd it, it was after the rain, when the entites come out, the second time it was sunny so its not that either i dont think. The first time took just over an hour, the second time just 32 mins!

I tried again with my other three characters that are lvl 91 90 and 80, i chained 125 black and red chocobos had 99 chocobo feathers and 99 gyashi greens and also tried casting beserk on monsters before leaving the area and coming back and still he did not come out to play. It was also raining this time so again cant rule out that 1, but im thinkin its more to do with the lvl of the characters that are on screen. Also the lvl99 red chocobo is bigger than the normal chocobos, kinda like the great white thing from the hunt but not as big and does'nt run around everywhere.

Hope this helps, good luck people!

Well, congrats on finally catching this thing. How difficult was it to take down, if difficult at all? What kind of attacks and magicks did it use?

DeathShining
01-16-2007, 07:25 PM
Was'nt hard at all, i cast haste protect and shell on each character to help, it was taking about 4000-5000 hp with normal hits and it used choco comet or whatever as well that did about the same damage. The first time the garif hunter cast beserk on it then it wiped him out in 1 then started on me, was'nt hard, but it was doing more damage when beserked.

Have you any idea if this monster comes back again or is it a battle you fight just the one time?

Agent0042
01-16-2007, 07:26 PM
It's listed under "Rare Game," right?

DeathShining
01-16-2007, 08:09 PM
Its not on the rare game list in the bestiary i just checked, so if its not rare game is it some kind of boss? Ive had rare game turn up more than once a few times.

Agent0042
01-16-2007, 09:56 PM
Hmm. If it's not under "Rare Game," then perhaps maybe it's just a chocobo like any other chocobo? There are no distinct entries for chocobos, with the exception of Trickster, that I know of. If it's not showing up under Rare Game and it's not showing anywhere else in the bestiary, then that might be the case and I would imagine you can probably encounter it again.

ok so according to this guide i have u need to have free use of the strahl already, u must defeat a minimum of 6 red and black chocobos, then u must enter or re-enter the haulo green area and near those footprints as was said before there is a 1 in 256 chance of it appearing. so for anyone else wanting to do it u have to be to that point in the game where u have free use of the strahl is what it sounds like.

Neg

Agent is right, 99 falls under the omnibus Chocobo entry, #065. He's entry F to be precise. As far as other chocobos with individual entries, the Bull Chocobo has a rare game entry, and is part of the Hunt Club side quest (#361).

99 Appears to be nothing more than a notch in your gamer belt, and a source of Ribbons of course.

Undead_Lives
02-03-2007, 12:22 AM
I believe the way to actually make the lvl 99 chocobo is to chain 6 chocobos, and AFTERWARD, you have a 1/255 chance of finding the lvl 99 one.
I'd rather go for Vishno or that chest in Cerobi Steppe to find Ribbons.

bartone02
06-26-2007, 03:09 PM
yeah, its in the Haulo Green in Ozmone plain, you dont have to chain anything but it has a 1 in 256 chance of being there, and it doesn't always drop a ribbon, sometimes gemsteel and high arcana

MossY
06-27-2007, 10:45 PM
You need to have the Treaty Blade before it will appear, then a chain of 6 chocobos on the Ozmone Plain and then you have a 1 in 256 chance of it appearing. THIS IS A TRU FACT.

Depends, if you want to complete the Clan Centurio quest.

This requires you to kill all Marks, complete the Pirate's Den, complete the Bestiary (including Omega Mark XII and the lvl 99 chocobo ofcourse), and I thought the fishing game too. Not sure on the last one though.

Neg
07-02-2007, 10:18 PM
Fishing game is only needed to forge the Wyrm Hero Blade. 99 Red falls under the omnibus chocobo entry, so I don't think you need him for the bestiary and the highest clan rank.

I recently bought the official guide and there is a piece in there about this. If i remember correctly, it has pretty much all of the information you need in it. I havent got it with me, but i know it did say that it was pretty much down to luck - not the items you have on you or the battle chains or anything like that.

Also, it mentions something about only diehard fans should do this, probably due to the amount of time it takes.

To be perfectly honest, im surprised nobody else has this information, it is all written in the official guide....

Got this Lv99 Red Chocobo to spawn last night on my second attempt...took less than 10 minutes to get it to spawn.

Anyways, my main party were around lvl 70-75

2 of them kept dying b/c of the annoying Choco-Comet attack (does 4000-5000 dmg per hit unless you got an ensanguined shield equipped)

Its really not that hard and it 100% of the time drops a ribbon

samonasuke
07-19-2007, 10:57 PM
the red chocobo is defintiely a tough one all right, you have to kill 6 chocobos on ozmone plane and after that there is still only a one in 256 chance of it appearing, its pretty tough aswell, its got just under 240,000 hp so youd wanna be high enough levels. It also has a 90 percent chance of dropping a gemsteel (required for the tournesol) if you have the corrseponding monagraph, which is the knights monograph, and if u have th jar theres also a 90 percent chance he'll drop a high arcana
