i already posted this in the gabriel knight mysteries thread and noticed that i mixed up gk mysteries and gk3...

anyway, here's what i wrote:
"that's really great work but... do you happen to still have the original .wav-files? because it seems to me that while you were encoding those files, you normalized them as well - which results in sometimes pretty heavy noise as for example in track 18 and 24. and it definitely happend during encoding because i once tried to rip the soundtrack myself and i got at least part of track 18 - which sounds fine."

the only way i could find ripping that soundtrack is described here: http://www.mobygames.com/game/windows/gabriel-knight-3-blood-of-the-sacred-blood-of-the-damned/trivia
142 files? o_O
is there a better way to rip it? since you posted this in 2006, i'm guessing the answer to having the .wav-files will be "no"...

You want me to rip the game for all the 142 wave files?
Sure no prob. But it's gonna take some time since I'm a bit busy with another project...but let me know... anything for a Gabriel Knight fan

well actually i just wanted to know if you did do it the way that is described on that website or if there is a smarter way.

but if you would rip them anyway, that would of course be even better... thanks a bunch already :)

Hey.. if you want, I can grab this game from my archive, rip the original files and post them. It'll take me a while though to get the original game discs though because they're in a remote location and I wont be going there until in about a few weeks.

If you could make a good quality rip and wouldn't mind, that'd be really great!

There is still no better method to have the full GK3 score than the manual extraction, and unless someone writes a dedicated extractor (or Robert Holmes releases his recording sessions), there never will be any "smarter" way to obtain it.

One can of course extract the music from the .barns automatically with some already existing tools, but all the file names will be lost then, as will be the proper order of the music.

The three extra files, including the beta theme, did momentarily reappear on Sierra's FTP, but when they changed to Vivendi, they removed them - this time apparently for good.

Here we go...
the .WAV files from the game...

.WAVs?

Are those actual conversions or just the ADPCM compressed files from the .barns?

I'm curious because I'd be very surprised to see the proper full score in .wav form online... when I was assembling the complete GK3 score, converting and combining all the music into "only" 78 tracks, I remember the whole thing took close to 2 GB. I had the extra music, obviously, but even so, the music taken from the game alone would have made up at least 1.5 GB out of that amount...
