I just re-started this game and I don't really remember to much about it. But is it possible to go past a point in the game and not get a GF say you have to draw one from a foe and you don't Draw. Does that mean you can't recieve that GF.

I read the GF guide and still don't get it. Help me out someone.

All the GF's that are in a situation seeming permanently missable (i.e. all the ones you draw from bosses + Cereberus) can be drawn from the bosses at the very end of the game in Ultimecia's Castle. However, I wouldn't reccommend that. Especially Alexander.

first play through I messed up and forgot to draw Alexander and Leviathan - I ended up having to obtain them from Ultimecia's Castle - it sucks, but if you do miss one (or more) you can still get them at the end

I missed Siren and Alexander the first time through, but it didn't really affect my futher play at all.

GFs rule in this installment.

I usually do just physical attacks for some reason. I like the GFs and all, but I prefer to just smack them. Unless I'm in big trouble, then it's GF galore for me!

GFs are good for support because you need them for the good junction and abilities. Summon GF is a lot less useful in most cases.

Missing Alexander and having to get in Ultimecia's Castle is rough, because if you don't have Alexander, you can't get Doomtrain.

I thought you could still get Doomtrain on disk 4.

EDIT: Wait, I misunderstood you for a second. So yeah, you need Alexander for Doomtrain. It's easier to just Draw Alexander from Edea compared to getting him at the end of the game.

Yea Doomtrain makes that part so much easier(Ultimecia's Castle), I think so anyway.

Yeah, Cerberus and Doomtrain are probably the most useful GFs.

All GF's are useful in this game, maybe not in the actual summoning of them. Some are very useful to summon, others are just great for their junction abilities. I think that the junctioning was possibly one of the best ideas they came up with for VII.

Ive got to agree with you ther e, i love that system - the ONLY bad thing about ff8 is the leveling system , if the lvling system was like final fantasy VII (7) 's then that would be amazing - ive been playing this game since it came out and im still not bored of it!

I never thought of Cerberus as useful. Mostly because I rarely do magic, but in a few arguments I've read (not here), a lot of people thought Cerberus was the most useless of them all.

I think that Doomtrain and Carbuncle were the most useful. Doomtrain obviously for his Vit 0 ailment and Carbuncle because of him casting Reflect on everyone. That came in very handy for me in times of need.

No, I like Cerberus. I do use magic in this game and I find having Double / Triple on all the characters extremely useful.

True. I use magic every now and then, but usually to cast Meltdown or Protect on either one or two of my characters.

But if it comes down to casting multiple magic, I just use Selphie's Limit Break.

To be honest I rarely used GF's. I used Eden of course on disc 4 but that's pretty much it.

Get then while you can.

Getting them at the end of the game (disk 4, lots and lots of optional bosses) is pointless because by that point you should be powerful enough to beat the game already.

Every GF is worth getting because of the abilities you get.

I don't actually *cast* the GF, unless I'm desperate and a bit of a low level for the area, the reason for getting and equipping them is for junction.

yea that's basically the same reasong i got all the GF's. just so i could have the possabilitiy of Junctioning magic to every stat.

The best GFs in my opnion are Bahumat, Doomtrain, Cactur, and Gilgamesh/Odin.
Bahumat for the abilities he gives and the Non-elemental damage.
Doomtrain because of his Summon status damage.
Cactur because of the HUGE non-elemental he could use.
Gilgamesh/Odin because they could elimante all enemies in one strike or help out in battle.
I wasn't much of a magic caster so Cerberus wasn't very high on my list since I linked Death spells and so forth to my weapon Status makes senseless level uping SO much easier in the long run.

I wasn't much of a magic caster either, I spent hours going to and from that village at the top of the map (forget the name its been years) draining Ultima, and running around the Island closest to Hell bashing the square button with Enc-None on for powerful spells to put on my (i,e Squall's) STR and constantly used Renzokuken..

Doomtrain was quite a useful summon later I thought, just a bit of a pain to get him, that and the abilities Diablo give.

Don't forget Cerberus' Auto-Haste ability for the characters.
Auto-Haste on Squall + Meltdown on enemy + Renzokuken = Victory.

I hated Final Fantasy VIII before because of all the drawing but then I later realised you could refine magic and I even went as far as collecting so many cards that I actually made all the items to get the Punishment before getting ifrit! I was hitting 6000 before I even went into the fire cavern!

I did like the junctioning system but the levelling system was too easy, it was the same amount of exp for each level and it was too easy to get to level 100 - Final Fantasy VII is more challenging and I like the materia system the best, especially combo linking materia. Awesomeness! ^_^

Thats what I liked about the card system and junctioning. By the time I got to Timber I had 5000ish HP and could leave Squall in at 1000 and he would be in critical and able to use his limit, while the rest had at most 800hp. Junctioning is extremely powerfull if you know how to use it right and its nothing you cant accomplish in the other games either if you spend some time levelling up (considering it takes a long time getting so many cards to change). Playing cards is just a whole lot more fun then killing shinra soldiers for 3 hours.

I personally had a lot of fun messing around with the different Junctions, trying to find the best magic for each characters stats...

I think the GF's in 8 were revolutionary, not because of the graphics or gameplay or anything like that, because of the things you could do with them, like having a GF with a shop - Extremly useful, or the abilities they gained, much better than just equipping one GF and having it do its 'thang' like in 7, you could actually have fun getting them to learn different abilities.

Also i think it opened up a new part of Final Fantasy, whereby GF's or Eidolons or whatever they choose to call them are more involved with the actual gameplay...
