Okay, so actually he's called the Ancient Man of Mystery, but it's more fun for me to call him the International Man of Mystery.

Anyway, anyone notice that the theme that plays while you fight him is Battle with Gilgamesh from Final Fantasy V? I thought that was really cool reference. I've only fought him once --- the little shit, being Gilgamesh, ran away. I get the feeling this next battle isn't going to be so easy.

I tried chasing him down after he ran (I had the key) but there's a rare mark from the hunt club that's tough as hell... he's called Disma. That thing survived 3 quickenings and hits for roughly 3000 every time he swings. Gilgamesh will be tougher next round, according to the book, but I haven't gotten that far yet. Also, be sure to steal the genji stuff he has. You can only get the shield and gloves in the first meeting though.

Shoot, I already missed it, but then again, I wasn't planning for this to be my best savefile anyway. So he actually has more than one thing to steal? I was under the impression that each enemy had only one thing to steal in this game. I only got a Potion off of him.

Each of his different forms has something to steal, though only his final two forms will have the Genji equipment for each battle. The items aren't really all that good anyways, except maybe the Genji Glove to get larger hit combos and all that. I forget which one that that anyways.

12-27-2006, 03:31 AM
Oh, I think I get what you're saying about the forms now. Interesting. I'll keep that in mind. Yeah, now that I think about it, I recall that happening in Final Fantasy V.

Anyway, Gilgamesh/Enkidu second fight is terribly hard. I have some strategy ideas, but I think I'll just put it off for now and go deal with some other hunts I have on the go. I'm particularly interested in one I was just assigned from some sort of rogue hunting group on the Phon Coast.

Good plan. I've found the hunts very helpful in leveling up. Pick up an embroidered tippet for all your party members as soon as you see them for sale. If you're at level 45 or so, you could also do the Negalmuur loop if you want, too. (you'll have to search that one) But a lot of the fights that are supposed to be really tough haven't been anything for me to worry about. I think by the time I go after Gilgamesh the second time I'll be able to put him down pretty easily. *throws head back and laughs maniacally*

Agent0042

Yeah, I actually have two of the Tippets, but I've been focused on leveling up couple of key characters for now as opposed to trying to build evenly. Anyway, I socked it to the hunter stalker and next up is that Mark in the Tchita Uplands.

I love tippets, just wore them on my characters and let the experience roll in. Genji gloves are awesome, but they suck too because only Fran can use it. Same with Genji Shield.

Agent0042
12-28-2006, 05:42 AM
I didn't know that. Interesting. I'll make sure to teach her the License for the Genji equipment if I haven't already.

Tippets are great, but I haven't focused much on level-building. Might try to soon though.

Yeah. And a good rule of thumb...... be sure to save at the crystal... I usually liked to skip the blue ones because you can't teleport from them, but Gilgamesh is way tougher the second time. You're one room away when you go into the mine and find the blue crystal.

Agent0042
12-29-2006, 03:58 AM
Oh, definitely saving at the crystal. Besides, they're good for restoring MP after you cast all your spells on your characters.

Alvinz

For the genji equipment, there is no license for it, so Fran, and only Fran, can equip it at any level desired.

Agent0042
12-29-2006, 05:02 AM
What do you mean there's no license? There's a Genji license on my board. Unless I'm thinking of something else, but I don't think so.

J. Peterman
12-29-2006, 06:27 AM
Yeah, there's a license for the Genji Equipment, so I'm not sure what he's talking about.

BeneHaElohim
12-29-2006, 03:35 PM
Um, yeah...about that...There's definitely a license for Genji Armor (one license for the whole set), it's just before the Quickening license on the far right of the armor section. I've seen no mention of it being exclusive to Fran anywhere other than this thread...speculation perhaps? Alvin, can you tell us why you think that?

Alvinz
12-29-2006, 04:17 PM
Oh.... I remember! Fran was the one who I explored all the armour section with. No wonder why! I was looking at the assecories for the Genji thing and didn't even think about looking at the armour section. My Bad ^^

Well, Level 35 is a good level be at. Gilgamesh seems to favor a lot of Level-based spells. Next time I fight him, I'm making sure all my characters' levels are fucking prime numbers before going in. Level 3 Disablega got annoying.

Where exactly IS gilgamesh after he runs away? I've looked everywhere in Site 11 and can't find him. Does he run into the area that has lvl.59 Mobs? Looking everywhere and can't find his location. Any help will be appreciated.

Agent0042

He's in an area past the bridge that you have to unlock. Do you remember the kids that were attacked by the Antlion talking about a key that they had lost and washed up somewhere? You need to pay a visit to the camp at the Phon Coast and pick that sucker up. It'll be by a guy who talks about having fallen off Bhujerba.

Tibu
01-09-2007, 06:19 AM
Yes, I have this. I am currently IN that area, but I've searched it high and low and he's nowhere in site 11. My only guess is that he's in the level 59 mob area past site 11... which would SUCK

Agent0042
01-09-2007, 06:24 AM
He's at the very end of whatever path you're on, all the way past a room with a Save Crystal. There should be an Urn somewhere with a Lhusu Candle --- if you can get to that, it will light up hidden sections on your map. And yes, I'm afraid he probably is past whatever Level 59 mob you're referring to. You could always try fleeing. Don't worry, though, Gilgamesh himself and his little dog Toto are beatable at levels well below 59.

Tibu
01-09-2007, 06:37 AM
I wish I could find a complete map of the lhusu mines online. I can't find the "lhusu candle" you speak of.

- O -

WOOT! Made it to the save crystal that's before him. Man he is DEEP inside Lhusu, I don't even know how I made it past all those 59-60 mobs with my level 40-41 crew. Gonna try to down him now...

Just Whatever
01-09-2007, 07:10 AM
Yeah, he's all the way at the end.... how'd it go? if you couldn't take him, did you at least manage to snag the genji stuff?

Tibu

It was a freaking waste of time! My tanks where taking 1900-2300dmg per hit with the best gear that I can buy at 40. I managed to get to about 1/4 life left but I had to use 5 hi-ethers and a bunch of ethers and then the bitch puts up perfect defense which = GG for me.

Just couldn't do it. I saw the video from the guy that killed him at 35. Very clever and it actually worked except for the part that he has at level 35 the best gun in the game "Fomalhaut". To get that, you need to have a diamond Armlet and open the corresponding chest in cerobbi steppes. How he managed to do that is beyond me. There is a chest that has the diamond armlet in Tchita Uplands but I've been trying to get it to spawn for the last hour unsuccessfully and even then it's on the rare side of the drops from that particular chest.

But with that gun (3500 dmg per shot with crap ammo) I could definately do it. In fact it would be a walk in the park. So tomorrow I'm just gonna try to get it. Also having dudes with even number levels SUCKS.

Basically it was a huge clusterfk... :whatever:

I nearly defeated Disma with characters that I think were only levels around 40s to 50s, but lost. Fortunately, I had saved at the save point right before Gilgamesh. Disma showed up with pack of undead not far from there. I mainly just pounded Quickenings.
