I noticed not many people putting any rap albums in the top albums of 2006 (I don't think any would even make my list of top 10, but there were some really fucking good ones regardless). So, even if some wouldn't make your top 5 or top 10, what are some ones that came out that you like?

Here's what I've got:

Nas - Hip Hop Is Dead
Panacea - Ink Is My Drink
Snoop Dogg - The Blue Carpet Treatment
MF Doom - Special Herbs: The Box Set (Yeah, it's some shit that has been released before, but this year wasn't the best year for rap)
And yeah it was everywhere, and a lot of it wasn't rap but the Gnarles Barkley album kicked a lot of ass, I don't care who you are.
Plus some others that I don't feel like listing.

2006 wasn't a very good year for rap, at least not that I recall. not a lot of real noteworthy releases from what I could tell. I believe 2005 was supposedly a much better year.
I'm currently waiting on Rakim's new album which should be coming out sometime 2007.

I'd say Lupe's Food And Liquor along with Nas' Hip Hop Is Dead were the only noteworthy releases of 2006.

why what a wonderful comment full of ignorance and utter stupidity. I'm sure people like you strike up intelligent conversations all the time. Do the world a favor and stop breeding, we need less fucktastically retarded people like you.

2005 was definitely a better year for rap. And to the people that say all rap is shit, it's like the people that say all country is shit, all techno is shit, all (post your genre here) is shit. Anyone that doesn't like an entire genre is blinded. Maybe all the country on the radio is shit but no one can deny the brilliance of a Johny Cash, a Willie Nelson, and every hippie's and hipster's beloved Neil Young (who, as much as he does fucking rock, gets very fucking country no matter what you say). Does most of the rap on the radio suck? Yeah. I'm not here to defend Ja Rule or Ludashit, or any of that crap. But get into some of the underground rap and you'll realize that there is another world of music going on there. Most of the rock you hear of the radio sucks too. That's the whole thing, the radio, for the most part, sucks. Except for Justin Timberlake's "bringing sexy back" fuck you all, that song is great.

I think overall the rao industry is taking a turn for the worse. Every artist that comes out is making these gimmicky dance songs. I dont think I can even name 5 albums for this year but this is what I have.

1. Nas Hip: hop is dead. Great album
2. Jay Z: Kingdom come not his best but a good album
3. Lupe Fiasco: Food and liquor It was like a breath of fresh air
4. Styles P: Time is money This is another really good album

Thats all I can name so far. If I think of another one Ill post again

Nas - Hip Hop Is Dead

I couldn't agree more. Nas dropped a great album. In my opinion, it's even better than Jay's Kingdom Come.

The industry planned all that from the start. Anyone would rape a cash crop given the chance. Keep giving the chickens crud instead of bird seed they'll start to like it.

I never thought I'd like a Justin Timberlake album. Then I downloaded Future Sex because of all the great reviews. It made Pitchfork's top 50 albums of 2006 so I was really curious. The whole album (besides a song or two here and there) is great. Who would've thunk?

Who would've thunk?

Me, because he had some of the greatest hip-hop producers known in the industry.

It was pretty great actually, apart from the last 3 or so shitty slow songs

and that song with the nig from the Black Eyes Peas. And the one about chopping himself up or whatev.

I could probably only make atop 3 albums of rap in the history of man:

1.) NWA- Straight Outta Compton
2.) Dr. Dre- The Chronic
3.) Run DMC - Raising Hell

Nas - Hip-Hop is Dead
Lupe Fiasco - Food and Liquor
Clipse - Hell Hath No Fury
Boot Camp Clik - Last Stand
Jay-Z - Kingdom Come

And I don't know if this counts, but my favorite underground rapper DZK dropped a bunch of excellent tracks on his site in '06. He just doesn't want to actually make an album, though he has hundreds of tracks recorded and up for free download. He's unique like that, lol.

Yup, "Hip Hop is Dead" is most definately my favorite album of 2006. "Hope", the last track of the album. Even though it was just acapella, the lyrics itself put the song on my favorite list.
