Before I ask this, keep in mind that I'm not a gamer at all, so don't laugh at me.

Does it work if you put a PS1 game in PS2?
Has anyone tried it before?

thanx

..if you've been hiding under a rock for the past several months. :D Naa, kidding. For some reason some of my PS1 games glitch when played on my PS2. FFTactics is one of them. But yeah, they're PS2 compatible alright.

Moving thread to General Gaming.

not only will they work, the PS2 will slightly smooth out the edges on the graphics and speed up loading times. You can also use your PS1 controller and memory cards when playing PS1 games on your PS2.

yea it works on PS2 just great. I find it works better, not much graphic difference but the loading time seems faster. other than that its the same as playing on a ps1.

So, can you only use PS1 controllers for PS1 games in the PS2? Not in PS2 games? That was something I was wondering about. I need to know if I need to get another new controller when I buy my PS2...

Your PS1 controllers should work for ps2 games unless the game explicitly tells you, you need such and such a controller; usually dualshock 2. Zone of the Enders and James Bond 007: Agent under Fire are two games I played where if I didn't have a pS2- dualshock 2 controller pluged in, then it gave me a message saying that this game can only be played using a dualshock 2 control.

Thanks for your responses, everyone! So there really isn't any point in buying the PS1 after PS2 is out. Then why did they make a smaller version of the PS1?

the only games that are not supported are games that are emulated so to speak. Games like Final Fantasy Anthology, Final Fantasy Chronicles which are actually SNES games emulated on the ps1 dont' work well. That is direct from sony also BTW.

Ok, thanks for clearing it all up Millenia. I wasn't sure if the controllers were different.

BTW, I heard that other certain PS1 games mess up a bit, especially with older PS2s or if you use the texture smoothing/fast loading stuff...games such as Metal Gear Solid.
