I suppose maybe this should be in the RPGs section, but I'm just gonna post it here. If somebody wants, they can move it.

For those that have played both, which do you find better / more exhilirating? I hate to say it --- but for me, I don't think Final Fantasy will ever quite meet up to Kingdom Hearts for sheer, fast-paced combat.

In Kingdom Hearts, the Heartless are contstantly coming at you. You have to be fast to control that Keyblade, and Reaction Commands in the second game. Final Fantasy XII is really more about strategy. Even though the cumbersome random battles have been eliminated, Gambits aid a lot in combat and even when you can't really rely on them, combat generally doesn't get too intense, even if you put it on Active Mode.

Other than that, one other notable item is that Kingdom Hearts switches to more intense versions of the area music when you go into a battle scene, whereas Final Fantasy XII retains the same music unless it's a boss or special battle. I think this may have to do in part with how Kingdom Hearts doesn't draw very strict lines between "town" and "field" areas.

Agent0042, I completely agree that KH is faster paced but for me, Final Fantasy XII's battle system takes the cake on this one. What generally makes it, is the awesome gambits you can setup and the range they come in is entirely useful.

Sure, you can set up certain "jobs" persay in Kingdom Hearts but FF12 easily specifies it and makes it easier on the player. Don't get me wrong, it's not butterflies and easysauce because you do have to manage them accordingly, but it's definitely one of FF12's finer points.

I like the fact that FF12 isn't a drunken party of button mashing and overall movement (KH, anyone?) but it allows you to reach for a drink in the middle of battle. Talk about convienence.

Also, as far as the music goes, I'd actually like to hear an entire song before it continuously switches back and forth because Heartless decide they want to bother me.

Well, if I want to hear an entire song, I put on the Kingdom Hearts Original Soundtrack.

And yeah --- Final Fantasy XII is good on that one. Except for Quickenings. Can't even Pause during those.

Yeah, but it you could pause, it would defeat the purpose and break the system. :p

Though I admit I don't like the Quickening system the way it is, no matter how cool they look. XD

Agent0042

Well, possibly. I think there could probably be a way to work it so that it wouldn't. But I think the reason for the lack of pause is likely the same reason that you can't pause FMV sequences.

I'm not really sure where I stand, but FFXII definitely has a more intense storyline. Has anyone else jumped between each one? Going from Disney-style graphics, and a nice x-button masher to an incredibly complex storyline, high-minded political....ness and strategy is a major difference. It's definitely harder overall, and refreshingly realisic graphics always round things off.

Xirucem, if I am not mistaken we are talking about the battle systems.

Anyway, I like FFXII better because in Kingdom Hearts I never use magic or summons. Also, the only time I had to ever worry about casting Cure was during the battle(s) with Sephiroth.
The button mashing and jumping all over Heartless/Nobodies was proven to be boring in KH2 when you had to defeat 1000 or so Heartless. Especially since every single Kingdom Hearts boss was really easy it took a lot of the excitement out.

i like Kingdom Hearts' combat system better cuz you don't have to wait for them to attack; it happens as soon as you tell them to do it. i haven't got the patience to wait for 5 seconds just to attack. :P

The closest one to answer I would say is "Both equally." Despite the fact both games are made from Square Enix, are in "real time," and no random enemy encounters, I feel like it is comparing apples and oranges. FFXII is based mostly on strategy. With the brief time I played (emphesis on that brief), I rarely dodge an attack. With KH (more particuarly KHII) I almost always dodge an attack and it is not common for me to get hit by one. But they are both equal and different at the same time.

Yes, I like Final Fantasy XII's battle system better because of the many different abilities and magicks, however that sephiroth battle in KH was pretty insane. I beat him at lvl 70. It made me cry.

I'm 14 and I play KH and I feel like it is appropiate. Despite all the Disney, I wouldn't call it kiddy. Especially some disney levels are from being kiddy (Like Port Royal)

ok, i'm not trying to be mean or anything, cause i was once 14 and thought i was mature, but, lol, i'm a little bit older (ok, maybe about 2 x older) and by saying it's not kiddy with you being 14 basically affirms to me, being old, that it is kiddy.

kilgore --- don't post about stuff you don't know about. Why don't you check a review or something?

kilgoretrout25

alright, that is why i asked:
is kingdom hearts any good? it seems to "kiddy" for me. i mean, mickey mouse fighting? not since steamboat willy did he actually hurt anyone.
so i wanted oppinions and what i got was a 14 year old claiming it's not too kiddy for him, but he IS just a kid. when i was 14 i played all sorts of games which weren't kiddy to me, like ducktails and chip and dales rescue rangers and kirby, etc. however, being a bit older, they are kiddy now. and reviews usually suck cause they are money oriented, whatever game maker pays the most or gives the most perks usually gets good reviews. that is why i trust forum oppinions which brings me back to why i originally asked:
is kingdom hearts any good? it seems to "kiddy" for me. i mean, mickey mouse fighting? not since steamboat willy did he actually hurt anyone.

Okay, first of all try using some capital letters and punctuation for a change. Talk about something that's "too kiddy." Secondly, this thread isn't about whether the overall style of the game is "too kiddy" or not. If you want to know, then start another thread, or go read a review, but stop making uninformed, poorly formatted posts here.

i'll spell or misspell or use poor grammer or no punctuation or lack of capitilization as much as i want and guess what? people will still understand. why don't you get on peoples cases for using: lol, imo, rotflmao; aren't those just as bad? go to college, take a few linguistics classes, then talk to me about grammer, content, spelling, and meaning.

It's not a matter of understanding you. It's a matter of respect for the people who have to read your garbage. Even if we can understand it, it still takes longer and can be misinterpreted more easily. If you're going to communicate with others, you owe it to them to not be such a dimwitted cunt and either rise to their standards or fuck off.

Agent0042
01-08-2007, 06:15 PM
Yeah, kilegrout. I've seen that. It's crap. Exactly what Prak said. Sure, we can read it if we have too, but we'll be damned if we want to.

Oh, and I have taken linguistics classes, so yeah, again basically what Prak said. Don't be a dimwitted cunt.

it's amazing to be criticized by a person who uses the words:
cunt
and
fuck

i'm not sure i want to
rise to their standards cause if they are anything like yours they are too low. in fact, debating this with such limited and baseless individuals is pointless and frustrating.

Indeed. I would slight you in more respectful ways if you were a more respectable idiot. I would not be so optimistic as to hope that you would stop being an idiot altogether though.

is kingdom hearts any good? it seems to "kiddy" for me. i mean, mickey mouse fighting? not since steamboat willy did he actually hurt anyone.

Let me answer the question for you. Kingdom hearts in my opinion gets a 9/10 because its fun it has a good combat system, camera controls, magic system, and party options. Plus a veriaty(spelling?) of Disney characters from some of the old (Cinderella, Peter Pan, Beast, etc.) and New (Captan Jack Sparrow, Mulan, etc). In addition, the Second Kingdom Hearts puts a Steamboat Willie level in the game, obviosly aiming for older players because not many kids from 1987-2007 really know what Steamboat Willie is. Plus in my opinion it has a great compelling storyline, its not a sappy love story like what some of the Final Fantasy games have been. And the attacks in the Kingdom Hearts games are instant, even the magic. So it makes it more fast paced, and a new addition to the second one is the Action Commands which can get you up to where you need to attack on a boss, expose a weekness, dodge certian attacks, and use special Character Quickenings (Like Sora and Tron's "Reboot" attack).

I like Final Fantasy XII a lot as well as Kingdom Hearts II, but above was pretty much a piss poor review of Kingdom Hearts. :)

I'm not sure kilgore actually reads here anymore, but thanks for posting a reasonably decent review of Kingdom Hearts.

I'd be curious as to your thoughts though in regards to the actual topic of the thread.

Yes maybe Doug5401 should include some insight on how he feels about Final Fantasy XII?
