Thank you! this is what I was wondering from the begining. Are all the tracks in the game OSTs? ...if it's that way, maybe it isn't worth the download.....

They're all in the games, with the exception of Ring of Fire of course, however they have had their names changed. For example Sacred Land of Moneton is really Wounded Warsong from SH4. Also, Waiting for You is the exact same track of the same name also from the SH4 soundtrack. Silent Hill is a chopped version of the full song off of the original soundtrack. But yes the soundtrack is all from the games. I used to have a list of where they all came from but I've lost it.

and churchyard its i kill you (my favorite song from sh series though) must are from previous games but with other names :)

Okay, so it is the Samael Version. But how was it done in the first place is what I'd like to know. I mean, how can you rip just the bgm and the sfx without hearing any of the dialogue :-?

The end of track six scared the crap out of me. I thought it was the regular song at first until that..... THING.... happened. Also, track 18 was creepy too. *shudders* Silent Hill games always give me the creeps, especially their music tracks. Thanks for posting this, now I have something to scare people with on Halloween, that and Fatal Frame III ghost screams XD Did I mention thanks?

I'm still not convinced as to how this was actually made, and I haven't seen any solid answers as of yet.

Is it a collection of the songs from the games re-ordered for the soundtrack (e.g. did you just get the SH4 soundtrack, take "Wounded Warsong", rename it and stick it in the tracklist), or did you actually work at it to take the music from the movie, and take out the dialogue?

Right... Hearing "Waiting For You", it can only be taken from the original soundtrack.

But "Janitor Cleaning" still has the sound effects (air raid siren, sound of the walls corroding, windows smashing etc.).

So what gives?

It's gotta be a DVD Rip...
In the 18th song 'Janitor Cleaning', you can hear the walls being peeled and even here the Voldo-looking guy with his noises...

In an actual soundtrack.. I highly doubt those sounds would be there...

The actual soundtrack was never, and more than likely will never be, released. It has nothing to do with the ownership of songs, simply that nearly all of the music used in the film is already available on the SH game music cds. Every version of the soundtrack that has been found as being 'official' is a fan-made version, albeit with some sweet covers.

The one from iTunes looks like it was ripped from the DVD and it sounds too mechanical to even listen to. I can't believe they have it to where you buy it, that's not even worth the money.

Files aren't working for me... I get the following after downloading all of the parts and trying to open then:

I've tried re-downloading the files with the same result. What's funny is I get a song listing from 1-22, but I'm unable to extract any of them, getting this error: ! Finally got it, thanks a lot. This is effectively the genuine thing. But the mix of the sound is pretty strange (lack of surround and sub). Can be a rip-off pre-mix from master tapes.. Anyway thanks for it !

There never was an official release or any kind of release for that matter. I emailed Jeff Danna about it and this was his response:

Hi Emmy. There was never a score cd released for Silent Hill. Sony and Konami couldn't agree on legal issues , since so much of the music was pre-existing. We actually prepared a soundtrack cd , but it was never released.

In my opinion, thats saddening, becuase the stuff that can't be found, the remixed songs and his contributions were really good. So all we're going to find in soundtracks for this are dvd rips mixed with the songs taken from the Silent Hill game soundtracks.

As I posted before, there is no official film version of the soundtrack. The most you'll find is a compilation of the music used in the films from the games (taken from the game soundtracks) and/or DVD rips.

It can't hurt to ask. I've sent him an email before on this subject but his response was pretty much the same as the one he gave Emmy has a Gun. The more emails shows that there are a lot of people interested though, which is never a bad thing.

there is no official release of the soundtrack or unofficial release of it. Any so called soundtrack for this movie with have sfx, and are usually a combination of rips from the dvd and songs taken from the silent hill soundtracks.

Last night at the premiere of SH2 the producer of the film told me to prepare the soundtrack for SH1 as well , to be released in 3-4 months with the SH2 DVD...so stand by for that.

Yeah, it sounds really good from what I can hear so far. Im really liking how the music in Lost Souls is a theme throughout the movie.

I think the strongest point was that Yamaoka made a new song for the Silent Hill Saga, which I did not ever expect to happen again.

seems like they used the same few themes over and over again.
they arent bad, but the diversity is kind of lacking.

From listening to the previews and reviews of the SH:R iTunes score, it sounds like they took many cues from the films and put them together into large "suite" tracks, so as to save disc space. I think mostly every track on the official release is in fact a compilation of many separate tracks used in the film. Slightly irritating for the avid score collector, but I'm honestly just glad that they're releasing a score at all.

I'm guessing the official release of the first SH film score will be pretty much the same thing.

I hear nice tunes, both original and from the games. But in the big horror parts, the sound was too loud and didn't hear much.

I liked the film though, but the duration and rhytm hurt it. Saved by the ending though :D I'd give it 9/10 for now

I managed to get it earlier today, and it is really nice, although track 11 seems weirdly edited. It's like loads of different cues stuck end to end, and some cues don't get a chance to properly finish or even start (as in it sounds like its missing a beginning) and its quite jarring. Might be intentional, but the volume of that track is also much lower than the others.

And I am going to sound like a total douche here, but I think it would be best if as many people as possible bought this album - I'm not going to be uploading it for a while, because I think the chances of a soundtrack for the first film ride on the financial success of this score, and I know everyone is looking forward to it :)

We were supposed to get one along with the release of Silent Hill: Revelations on DVD right? I haven't seen anything like this, I wonder if Jeff Danna knows anything about it.

I think Revelation was too huge of a commercial fail in all venues that they decided to scrap any and all plans for the first soundtrack.

The second OST wasn't as powerful or strong as the first one.
I think it was a mistake to release the second one before the first one.
IMO, SH:R was a sad investment.

I have not heard anything about a SH1 cd release. I know that there are numerous legal issues associated with the various companies involved with that movie...so I'm not entirely hopeful.

Yeah, I remember hearing from Danna that Konami didn't want to release the music from the first film, since so much of it had already been released. But there are a number of tracks in the film that were composed almost wholly by Danna, as well as a few tracks that are very distinct and unique remixes of previous Silent Hill music. Honestly, I think the Silent Hill film's soundtrack is unique in it's field of etheral, atmospheric music and it's a true shame it hasn't been released or leaked in some form.
I feel like if anyone wants access to this score, they will have to go through Konami... I've tried but it's very hard to find the right person to contact :/
