I finally bought my ps2 :-D
At the moment i own ICO and Soul Calibur 3, which were packed with the console. Ill probably get final fantasy X or XII, Dragon Quest and a tekken title, although im thinking abou resident evil 4 too.

Any suggestions of good games for the system?

Devil May Cry 3 has me pretty hooked at the moment.

May I also add Tekken 5 if you like the Tekken series. And Resident Evil 4 I found to be much better than expected.

Ico has been a personal favorite of mine and I've been guarding it with my life as to how hard-to-find it's becoming. It's also good to own the MegaMan collections. God of War is spectacular. If you need to choose between FFX and FFXII, I suggest you rent them both or try and form your own personal opinion on what to get. You're going to get mixed replies from all of us.

One of the big trends in gaming is the "Open World"-style game. My personal recommendation for one of those is "Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction". It's free-roaming, with a solid storyline, contains insane action, and allows you to use cattle as weapons. Plus, the two "Lego Star Wars" games are exercises in simple, pick-upable fun games.

Actually, it was re-released when Shadow of the Colossus came out, so it's not that hard to find any more.

For FPS's I'd recommend TimeSplitters 2 and for RPG's (apart from Final Fantasy XII and Dragon Quest VIII) I'd say Suikoden III.

How can nowbody recommend Syphon filter, or Star Ocean 3, or the Xenosaga series? GT4 kicks ass super realism MegamanX anniversary edition, and MegamanX Command mission(only if you have patience, and you are a Megaman fan, I mean Megaman + RPG = kick ass). The Whole Armored Core series, Tony Hawk Underground 1 and/or 2. The list goes on and on. Maximo pretty fun I'd try that.

What I've heard of Yakuza is that it's good but there are far better games out there in the same vein. I've played a little bit of The Warriors and thought that it was pretty good and reviews in general give it quite a high rating, and Lego Star Wars is supposed to be quite good with some funny moments in it, though 'they' say that Lego Star Wars II is the better game.

lego Star wars is a good game (only played a demo of two, but it was pretty good) although I completed it in a day, WAY to easy. Get the whole Tekken series, its awesome. Soul Calibur is sweet too (haven't played '3, but I know its awesome) Devil may cry...all of them (haven't played '3, but I know its awesome, lol). thats all I can think of, besides Final Fantasy games. I was thinkin about gettin' a PS2 also.

If you're gonna get Lego Star Wars, get it from EB Games (or whtever games store lets you take the game back within a certain amount of days where you live). Because you'll probably complete it within a few days, although it has some replay value. The second one will probably be better ( it's bigger, more charecters, Jawas!, and charecter customisation, evil Jawas! With lightsabers!).

The Spyro games on the PS2, in my opinion, are awful. The ones they released for the PSOne (specifically Spyro 2 & 3) are probably the best ones. Also, though it's tempting to get TimeSplitters: Future Perfect as it's the latest installment, I'd say (as well a most review sites) that TimeSplitters 2 is the better game.

Since nobody has mentioned it, Ys 6 Ark of Naphishtim, Musashiden II, Tales of Destiny II, Tales of Rebirth and Tales of Destiny are good PS2 games if you don't mind the Japanese. Aside from that, I'd recommend Tales of the Abyss, Grandia 3, VP : Silmeria, Legaia Duel Saga, Radiata and any Worms games you might find. :D

I'm actually very enthoustiastic about the Summoner games.

Summoner 1 was one of the first games released on the PS2 and looks crappy compared to newer games. But the game is massive and fun to play, though it can get a little repetative.

Summoner 2 has a great world, there's lots to do as far as questing goes and the Lore is really greatly done.

And a honerable mention for a great and fun game: Gauntlet: Dark Legacy.

I'd recommend Crash Twinsanity, Final Fantasy 12, some-other-game-I-can't-remember-but-it-is-a-good-FPS, Resident Evil 4, Spyro: A Hero's Tail.

I got myself a brand new PS2 for only 40€ (my old one has a broken detector so it couldn't read some games :( ) too.
