And please, no commercial shit, no weeaboo shit, and no annoying nu-metal.

I like punk and melodic power metal most, but I listen to a lot of different styles. The more obscure, the better.

Thanks guys, I'm working my way through the list. Some of them I've heard before, and others I haven't. I appreciate the help. Btw, SoD has an old band called Method of Destruction, or MoD. They're horrible, but good for a laugh.

Try the Velvet Underground's album White Light/White Heat if you want some insane proto-punk.

Also check out what Bryan said.

I'm still going through these. Bands like Fear Factory I classify as Nu-Metal. I like Lawrence Arms though. Fat Wreck is one of my favorite lables. Velvet Underground is pretty decent too, but I couldnt listen to them all the time. Its kind of like a drug: if i get hooked on it, it wont be as special. Keep 'em coming though. Also, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy rules. I saw them live about 7 years ago, and it was awesome.

I think some people really screwed-up the classifications when it came to power metal-- Unearth and Opeth are absolutely not power metal, amidst other bands. I don't mean to be a shitey, but there is a huge difference between melodic power and melodic death...and hey, it's the thought that counts and the effort that amounts.

Try: Freedom Call (epic power metal)
Firewind (2006 release is great)

You can always pm me, I'd be happy to educate and introduce you more directly to music that suits your interests.
