my favorite are the viera cause they are badass, even if they all need to get slapped and told to get over themselves, save a few. and their accents are awesome, especially Fran's (whose name i always confuse for Freya)

the moogles in this game are SUPER cute, but i miss their trademark noise (the bwa-bwa-bwao!)

They must get really horny and go poach some humes for a 1 night stand, then dispose off immediately after and claim immaculate conception just to keep up appearences. Or maybe they have a thing for vorpal bunnys?

Agreed - the Viera are easy on the eyes, but I don't have a lot of tolerance for that stuck-up, holier than thou attitude that the majority of them exhibit. My vote is for the Garif - they're like friendly Klingons, and the world could use more friendly Klingons ;-)

I loathe the Baknamy. LOATHE I say! Can't stand it how there's so many of them. Aggro little shits.

And er... I vote Moogle. I like how they are the mechanics of Ivalice, hehe! Fix those windmills, boys! But I don't like Gurdy. Why is she everywhere and what makes her think I'd pay 800Gil for a Chocobo?!!? Does she have a bunch of sisters all names Gurdy? OR is she stalking me Hmmmmm....

Well at least this one was discussing the races anyway, so it's on topic ;)

By the by, I finished that Coackatrice side quest the other day (where you have to run around Ivalice convincing them to return to Giza), and if you could consider them a race, they may be my new favourite (well they'd be up there on the list anyway). Their dialogue is great, very comedic; the way it's written provides them with an accent that makes them unique in Ivalice ('innit gov'na?), and each one has a personality all their own.

Could you please tell me how to get that Cockatrice out of the Chocobo pen in Balfonheim? The one where you have to give the fetaher to the Chocobo Wrangler and she is miffed as to who is speaking. That is becoming a real pain in the arse to me.

Sorry for off-topic-ness :-S

The cockatrice in the Balfonheim chocobo pen? Hmm... I seem to recall I simply talked with everybody around there --- Gurdy, the Miffed Moogle and the man standing in front of the chocobo and eventually, the whole thing got sorted out. Have you talked to everybody there?

BeneHaElohim
01-11-2007, 07:02 PM
Exactly - just talk to everyone that Agent mentioned and you should be all set.

Hmm, I could have sworn I spoke with everyone in the vicinity. I even went as far as renting a chocobo from Gurdy, just incase.

I'll put on my investigating feet and check it out once more.
Thanks.

Agent0042
01-12-2007, 05:11 AM
You do have the Feather of the Flock that allows you to speak to the cockatrices, right?

ili
01-12-2007, 05:14 AM
Yes, I have it. I think I've done all the cockatrice except for the one in Balfonheim.

*edit*

Ok... well I loaded up the game and the only people that I can talk to in that area are the Chocobo Wrangler, the Miffed Moogle and Dyce the merchant ontop of the chocobo. There are of course other people but none of them are related to this side-quest.

Am I missing this 'man standing in front of the chocobo'? There's no one else around except for the calligrapher moogle.

Agent0042
01-12-2007, 05:35 AM
Hrm. Okay, what exactly is the Miffed Moogle saying to you? And is there still a cockatrice in the pen?

ili
01-12-2007, 05:40 AM
The miffed moogle is saying that he never expected Gurdy to find his weakness.

Gurdy isn't saying anything and the Chocobo Wrangler aslways says the same things about wondering what it was she just heard when I give her the feather.

So perhaps I am now required to find this weakness the miffed moogle is talking about. But I am still stcuk. *contemplates*

Agent0042
01-12-2007, 05:52 AM
Okay, I'm confused about exactly what point it is you're at. Have you talked with the cockatrice yet? Did the Miffed Moogle try to take a trip on it, only to end up back there, disappointed that the cockatrice abandoned him mid-trip?

ili
01-12-2007, 05:57 AM
Wow... no actually. I must have missed something. Nothing like that happened at all. I'm still at the very beginning. All I did was have the Chocobo Wrangler use the feather and she always says the same thing.

The miffed moogle at first did look at the cockatrice and think maybe it would be cheaper to ride on it. But that's all I could do in that area, so I left. Nothing happened. I'm past the Pharos Lighthouse now and went back to Balfonheim to have the miffed moogle talking about Gurdy exploiting its weakness.

So whatever went on it is still the very beginning of this part of the cockatrice sidequest.

I'm starting to suspect that I missed something vital...

Agent0042
01-12-2007, 06:04 AM
Okay, this is really weird. Okay, I seem to remember that if you talk to Gurdy, there's an option to make a mention of the cockatrice. Have you tried that option? Eventually, you should be able to trigger a scene where the Miffed Moogle asks Gurdy about the cockatrice and Gurdy offers Miffed a really low price to ride it and he accepts. Then, if you come back later, you'll find the Miffed Moogle complaining that the cockatrice abandoned him.

ili
01-12-2007, 06:13 AM
The only option I get with Gurdy is to rent a chocobo for 800 Gil or to decline it.

I think something messed up. I'll just forget about it. Damn.

Agent0042
01-12-2007, 06:19 AM
Geez. I'd hate for you to have to give up the whole thing. Maybe it's just a matter of having to progress further in the game before you can continue with it? How far along exactly are you? Did you just reach there? What point exactly are you at in the game?

Oh, and regarding your earlier post, I think Gurdy must be a hologram, like the moogles in Kingdom Hearts II.

ili
01-12-2007, 06:25 AM
I'd hate for me to drop the whole thing too seeing as I've found all the other cockatrice already and made them go back to the Giza Plains.

The problem is... I can't go any further in the game. The next stop is the Bahamut, and if I go there it's game over. This is the last chance I have to do this quest.

Maybe this should go under that 'missable side-quests' thread on the forum. Maybe I left it too late. I just don't know and it's irritating me, lol!

Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it!

And yes... mysterious Gurdy. She must have a base of operations somewhere.

What the hell were Garif again?

The Garif are the race that live next to Ozmone plain, they have the big horn things. Fran said that the "party" should go visit them because nethicite/magicite is ther culture.

Agent0042
01-12-2007, 05:54 PM
Yes, that's correct. The Garif have a history and tradition of knowing about magicite and nethicite, but Ashe learns that they actually can tell her nothing about how to use the Dawn Shard. The Garif have great respect for powerful warriors. Although they are somewhat shy of outsiders, once you're in, you're treated as a welcome guest. The Garif petition you for several hunts and prove to a useful source of knowledge and wisdom.

Sorry to go back to this, but there's a simple order you need to follow as far as who you talk to. First, talk to the wrangler, then the Miffed Moogle stomps over so talk to him/her next. The Miffed Moogle is curious about whether or not the Cockatrice would be cheaper to rent than the other Chocobos, so go talk to Gurdy and there will be a new option in the dialogue. Hope that helps (I hate missing things too).

Agent0042

voted Occuria based on comparison of wikipedia's definitions of the races..because they sound like those big waddling things you only see five minutes of in The Fifth Element (and why did a red-headed - lulu?- be the incarnation of the alien instead of another alien??) but mostly because powerful magic is more interesting than close quarter combat. and whatever about male Vieras, what about male Renamon mm? have never played XII by the way, only all the others before it..my sister's played it though, on the other side of the states..hate her.
