Julia Heartilly's character was one of the most interesting aspects of this game. Her love connection with Laguna was heartbreaking, and her ultimate fate was tragic. I loved all of the scenes between her and Laguna; love between two people can last forever, but theirs never really took off.

Any thoughts on Julia and her unspoken love for Laguna?

That screenshot makes me want to play FF8.

Also, the whole JuliexLaguna thing was kind of cute. Though I wasn't all too happy with being pulled out of the big picture with Squall to play from Laguna's perspective. It got irritating considering you never went anywhere with that set of characters. The effort and the side story was decent, nonetheless.

I liked the "dream" sequences a lot. The main story wasn't really that impressive at the beginning, so the "dream" sequences provided a little more drama to the overall plot.

I thought that those sequences were generally a nice break from the normal gameplay, but probably could have used some polishing in certain aspects.

And yeah, I enjoyed the Julia/Laguna romance too. Too bad they weren't able to go anywhere with it because of the way things went, but at least she was inspired to write that song.

A great song.

I love the fact that the song was about Julia and Laguna, and not Squall and Rinoa. A lot of people still thinks that the song is about Rinoa and Squall, when in-fact it isn't.

Yeah, that's true. A lot of people don't understand that because they didn't follow the plot properly.

Squall is Laguna's son, and Rinoa is Julia's daughter....
So they kind of found each other in their own way...

So yeah--Julia's song is the one that plays when Squall and Rinoa find each other...so it's the song Julia wrote for Laguna, but he never got to hear it (and you never get to hear it yet)...but it finally plays when Rinoa and Squall are together...

I know this is probably a completly stupid thing to say. But Julia looked Exactly like Ellone to me. There was almost no difference to them imo.

Zulu

She did look like Ellone, but only with shorter hair. Yet, still, I think that she was a little more interesting than Ellone; Julia didn't get much exposure, and I have no idea why I am this attracted to her story. I just find it fascinating.

Perhaps Ellone is really Lagunas daughter from him and Ellone gettin busy.

No, that doesn't make sense logically and offhand, I don't think it fits the timeline either. Also --- ew.

That's confusing. Squall and Rinoa are related, or at least almost? I just played FF8 through again recently, and I'm sure there was no mention of any of this?

It's cool that Rinoa and Squall finished what Laguna and Julia started.

Jarosik --- Julia is Rinoa's mother. It says in the game that Julia ended up marrying an army general. That's General Caraway. And that's why you only saw Rinoa's father, not Rinoa's mother. Julia is dead --- she got killed in a car accident.

Squall is Laguna's son. There are any number of firm pieces of evidence for this in the game and they have been discussed extensively in other threads, but just to recap the more major ones.

- Moombas identify people by their blood. When the moombas get a whiff of Squall, they start shouting "Laguna! Laguna!"
- While the roles of Kiros and Ward can be filled by pretty much any character later in the game, Laguna's role is always filled by Squall.
- In the Ragnarok, when you talk with Kiros as Squall, he comments that Squall looks a lot like his mother. If you then try to talk with Ward, Kiros says that Ward says that it's a good thing Squall doesn't look like his father.

As Agent says there are some pretty clear pointers as to the fact that squall is Lagunas son. Besides its pretty easy to figure out anyones once they are together simply by the way they act.

Ah. That makes more sense. But then why would Ellone refer to Laguna as "Uncle Laguna"?

Agent0042
11-30-2006, 04:17 PM
Because he's a caregiver. Harry Potter is made to refer Marge as "Aunt Marge" out of respect, even though she's no blood relative. Elle likely refers to Laguna as Uncle Laguna out of affection.

Jarosik

Thanks Agent, that clears things up. Bashing the hell out of the X button after six or seven hours of straight gameplay and massive tiredness doesn't help your understanding of the plot much.

Agent0042
11-30-2006, 05:55 PM
Heh, I feel that.

P.S. --- it's the same thing with the term "Sis Elle." None of the kids at the orphange are actually related to her, but they call her "Sis" anyway, because she's like family.

But I thought Marge was Lilly Potter's sister?

And ya, I understand about the whole caregiver thing. I just didn't think about that when I posted :P.

Agent0042

No --- "Aunt" Marge is Uncle Vernon's sister. Petunia Dursley only barely tolerates her herself, and even then, only because she's Uncle Vernon's sister.
