i wanna complain it seems since it was changed from square soft to square enix or maybe just from PS1 to PS2 in my opinion the final fantasy series has dramatically decreased in quality. like ff-x2 was an alrite game but it just didn't have the sense of adventure, gameplay, storyline, longevity or fun that the other ff before it had it was a bit to much like some kinda arcade game to me, and that dirge of cerberus is just crap that IS AN ARCADE GAME it took about a day to complete and theres way too many guns for a game set in the final fantasy worlds, sure all final fantasies have guns but DOC just goes over the top. i would be much happier playing a final fantasy with a sword in my hand. i was also looking at some videos of ffXII and i really dont like the look of the new battle system its to freeformfor my liking if the battle systems keep going like this we will lose the original fighting system of final fantasy altogether and we will be playing a game such as devil may cry or dynasty warriors set in a final fantasy universe.
the most dissapointing thing about the newer final fantasies such sa FFX2 is how tragically boring the story is i mean you just dont connect with the characters and theres just no surprises in the story at all. like with final fantasy VII When aries died that was a major shocker i mean i wasn't expecting a main character to die.
I also think that losing the world map wasa bad thing, traveling around the world map was one of the best things about the final fantasy series. i admit it wasnt that excillarating when you were walking but when u got your boat, submarine, car and eventually a super quick airshipit was just awesome to go zooming around the world map. sure FFX has an airship but u cant fly it yourself all you do is click the name of a place and yer there. But wheres the fun in that?
Also the newer final fantasy's any fun activity's i mean compare X-2 to FFVII on X-2 u could play blitzball (which was like some football manager game) or sphere break which was just a load of **** i mean if i wanted to do maths i'd go to school or college and study some more maths.
whereas on VII u could play loads of games at the golden saucer raise and race ur own chocobos(the best part of the game in my opinion :p) there was just alot more to do.
anyway I think i've said enough i could complain more about the demise of FFVII but this message is getting long and will probably be deleted so i'll stop now.

Well firstly, DoC isn't a FF game, it is an FF spin-off game, which is why it only incorporates elements of FF in there.

Secondly, FFX and FFX-2 were two very high quality games IMO, and I found their stories (especially in X's case) much much much more interesting than games like VII and VIII.

Thirdly, it's all too obvious that the only FF game you have got on your mind when comparing the newer games to the 'older' ones is FFVII, as that is the only thing you have referenced in your comparisons. Capped off perfectly in the closing statement where you disregard the rest of the series and change your argument in to being about the 'demise of FFVII'.

Firstly, FFX-2 was made pre-merge. It just has the Square-Enix logo at the beginning because they had already combined when it was localize in the west. Second, even after the merge both SquareSoft and Enix have kept their development teams completely separate; the new direction that many FF games have gone in is in no way influenced by Enix.

Seriously, this has to be the most annoying misconception out there besides FFVII Tech Demo = Remake.

Before FFXII, i would've agreed that things are going downhill. I mean come on, lousy FFVII spin-offs, FFXI and don't even get me started on FFX-2.
But that was before FFXII.
Luckily it's not all spin-offs and lame sequels, there are also proper FFs out there.

I have to agree one of my favorite things to do in FF was to discover all the hidden places on the world map and just waste time flying in the Airship. If FFXII had a world map and you could control the Strahl like in FFIX the last FF to have a true world map I would so be all over it like no tomorrow.
