What is your favourite mage type?

I like Red Mages because they are able to cast both black and white magic.

Sorcerers ftw, cause they don't have to prepare spells ahead of time and get some neat prestige classes. Also, using charisma to cast spells instead of intelligence is neat because a mage with charisma as a primary attribute can make good bluff and perform checks. Silly wizards can't do that, but they do get extra skill points, so that kinda makes up for it.

Guess.. ;)

*Casts Curaga on everyone, then turns Invisible*

Summoners come a very close second too. I mean, who doesn't like summoning some raging behemoth to throw flaming meteorites at the enemy? :p

I never liked how sorcerers used the same spellcasting procedures and components as wizards, to activate supposedly natural/innate abilities. It's all rather absurd to me.

In my opinion, the sorcerer class needs a complete overhaul. I'm not really concerned with balance, but things should make more sense, within the natural laws/mechanics of the game world.

On a side note, 3/3.5E also butchered psionics. They are far too much like another system of magic now.

I really truly found polymorph 101 the most entertaining class. Practicing turning people into sheep is, well, fun!

Woot for Sorcerers! Here I thought I was the only person on earth who thought prepping spells ahead of time sucked. Anyway, I think Warlocks are fun too, even though they're probably not true "mages."

I tried a warlock once, but I hated the mechanics of it. Thankfully, that character did not last long at all and I got to roll up a fallen paladin that very quickly became a Blackguard/Cavalier and kicked much ass.

I like Black Mages. They're pretty cool with the offensive spells and all, but they have an overall cool look to them, too. I like the hat and the shaded face with glowing eyes.

Oh yes, and I'm a Lulu fanboy.

Gladly. Arcane or Divine? ;)

I prefer Arcane. Divine spellcasting seems so contrived to me. Not that I often use Divine spellcasters...

My favourite Mages are the Blue Mages. Often, they have some really good spells (as well as some pretty useless ones lol). Also, they can kinda learn any spell at any level. It can get annoying with Black or White amges that you have to wait to till certain levels to get the decent spells.

I do like white mages also. Black mages are good, but I dont ahve much time for the Red mage class (eg in FF5, just have a white and a black, why bother putting time/AP/etc into getting Red Mage spells that are of a lower level and weaker)

FFV's Red Mage is completely broken thanks to X-Magic. You can have your little white/black mage; I'll take my Red Mage/Summoner, doublecast Bahamut every turn and pwn just about everything with MP to spare.

Excuse me for not playing D&D, but from all of the games I've played I whole-heartedly prefer Summoners/White Mages. I generally like my mages with the ability to summon, a large selection of white magic, and mabye a select few black magic spells for a good balance. I guess my mage would fall under a Yuna-like character or something from a game like Oblivion.
