yeaa the reason for this question is because i just had to start over after 11 hours just because i found out about the the treasure boxes i wasnt supposed to open and the spear. i just dont want to have to start over again.. just knowing would give me a good peace of mind too

heh... i did the same thing too, except i was already 22 hours into the game but now im farther than in the previous game. the side quests i think you might be able to miss besides the spear as well just from seeing how the game is being played so far

I usualy play through the game first to enjoy the story then I play through it again to enjoy the side quests and mini games.

well the question hasnt really been answered yet. can any sidequests be missed? or can you just pursue them right before beating the game?

I think some can be missed. I'm not at home atm, but I remember reading something I think about some sidequest saying it could be done after some event, but must be finished before some other event. I know things that happen during the rains in Giza plains probably can't be done afterwords, unless the rains come again. I know there's an item that can't be gained until the rains, but I dunno if it can be done afterwords.

all the GIZA events can be done any time, the rain comes and go,\ just you need time to pass and not only exiting from the place and immediate come back,
2ndly,

WHAT SPEAR ARE ALL OF YOU TALKING ABOUT??
i just got the 2nd Esper[MATEUS-Ice], did i miss it or it will come later?
is it in a MARK mission, and which rank?

The Zodiac Spear, you have to not open certain treasure chests to make it appear in another later in the story.

different kind of treasures, in different places? or certain types and place??

wait, what?

You have to NOT open certain treasures, meaning leave them alone. One of them is outside of Old Dalan's house, when you get your weapons back at the beginning there is a few treasure chests in that room-make sure not to open those. Another one is in one of the beginning dungeons, and for the last, you can't open any of the treasure chests on the beach at the end of the phon coast.

I know I wasn't too sepcific on the one, but I'm just trying to get the point out.

i kno your trying to help and all but in the rainy season there is a section you can get to when you cant before

to get to this section, you need to cut down White colored[falling (dying) trees]

this is essential to reveal the road, in all the areas including the village in the Giza , only in rain time, with exception the Northwest side which dont have that tree, you can do this when choosing to do the Mark {GIL SNAPPER} level 3 mark.
to fight him, you need to have a HEAVY rain condition, you need to be in the Giza Rain time, go to that area and a fellow of youre clan will join you [4party members]
if he didnt say the monster is there , just keep exiting and entering [not from the entire Giza plain to another place, but in the same area],
note: if you cut down the trees, then went out and camed by at DRY time, then camed back in Rain time, the trees you cut dont come back, its cut already so go cut the others.

Now thats more specific regarding the Giza plain.

ahh ya i already knew this, i have had the item for a long time. me and ilfirin were not asking about that though, we were wondering if there are certain side quests that cant be done later in the game.

now that im much further in game i believe you can do all side quests no matter where you are at in the game.

Is the Gil Snapper mark given by Montblanc or off a notice board?

Question: did any one got the BARHIEM KEY?

I did. You can get it whenever you want in the game, since you use the key item you found during the first mark. There are no other items or loot that you need to have kept (ie Great Serpentskin) in order to get the Barheim Key.

Short answer, yes.

There are many, many sidequests in this game you can miss. If you only follow the story, you'll miss more than half of the espers, some of the best equipment in the game, and other little things, but it's surprisingly easy to finish the game without doing these.

However, they do add alot to the replay value of the game, and do make it feel MUCH more complete than had you ignored them. Moreso, because the story in FFXII compared to the others felt very rushed and short (did anyone else get this?)

If you couldn't miss sidequests, then they wouldn't be sidequests.

hey. i just went inside the nechrehol of nabudis, and all of the nabreus deadlands, and slaughtered everything in my path, (including the roblon, the deathscythe, and the other big stone golem thing) and i couldn't find a single chest anywhere that had the spear i was looking for. there were some closed rooms though that needed some key or whatever. i can't find any info in my strat guide. anyone got any ideas?
