Well i have attained my first quickening and i was happy to use it.. when i used it it went to a screen that had the character doing a attack and had a time bar and bouncing R2 button on the very bottom left.. then i hit for only like 200 dmg.. i was shocked at the wimpy dmg.. since then i have tried many different styles.. like clicking the r2 button when it falls/clicking it very fast/ and even not clicking it none seem to improve the dmg can anyone tell me how it is to be done?

Since you only have Vaan means you only have triangle.

Hold on R2 and keep on pressing Triangle.

More hits, more damage.

I tried that.. holding downt he button thing, but.. that didn't work for me. I press it, see what's available and then press it again over and over until i get something white....

The hold down stuff is used when you see everything turns grey.
There is where luck comes into rescue.

Once you get the mist attacks for several characters they start to get powerful when u chain them together. Shit, I just linked 10 attacks together and did 13500 dmg to the rocktoise mark when i was lvl 10 lol. If i did that much dmg already Im guessing they can get much much higher later on. You just have to be quick when shuffling through them to link em together.

If you only have one mist attack you cant expect it to do much on its own.

EDIT: wtf i just got 14 chained mists and it only did 10k dmg lol. I guess it depends what atks u are using. x_x

it does.. i've done anywhere between 11000 - 43000 damage and the one time I did that most damage there it was when I had alot of level three attacks and I managed to finish with Black Hole. So yeah.. it depends on how many higher level attacks you can squeeze in there.

Well you have three levels of Quickenings for each character. So the damage is dependant on which attack. Also, when you are choosing which character to go next *once you have more than one character with a quickening* make sure to look for "mist charge". This completely recharges the level used for that character, making your chain a lot longer.

Under certain conditions, you can make a Concurrence happen. For instance, in order to use Inferno you only need to use three level one quickenings. Black Hole is the highest, and requires four of each level 1, level 2, and level 3 quickenings. Hopefully that helpd you out :)

Alright I also just got quickenings for Vaan and Bacsh.

I tried it on the Judge boss I kept tapping R2.

What do I do? Hold R2 and tap triangle?

no shuffle(R2) til u get a mist charge or a quickening again, its a matter of luck....

Look right above the timer bar where you see three lines, probably greyed out. When one of them stops on an option you can use, you'll see a controller button appear next to it. If this isn't happening, don't sweat it. You'll see it and understand soon enough. I was hitting R2 like crazy at first too, then when it came up, I was like "oh!". You'll understand soon enough.

Just wondering, when / where do you get these quickening things? I just got past the palace / and where Fran and Balsomethingsomething break off your party in Rabinastre.

I see these "quickenings" mentioned in many threads.

they're like limit breaks (FFVII & FFVIII) or overdrives (FFX). you can get them by obtaining their licenses on the license board.

I find it is easier if you tap R2 and then tap Triangle back and forth really fast

I disagree. Especially once all of your characters have them. Don't do this, it's a bad habit. It's like learning how to play DDR, and following the on-screen dancer in beginning mode, and putting your feet back in the middle after each step. It may work in the beginning, but later on, it'll get you killed.

Do you ever get more time for the quickenings then because I get trigger happy with the R2 button and end up missing my chance

Apparently each time you enter a quickening, you get a few extra seconds in. I heard it somewhere, I'm guessing in my guide.

so in order to get the quickening right you hav to be patient and just keep on tapping R2 until u get Triangle, Square or X near a characters name? How fast do u guys normaly tap the R2 button? I just keep on tapping R2 and the cooresponding buttons but since som1 on here said that that method would mess you up i was wondering wat u guys do?

The max amount damage I've ever done is like 32,000, finishing with Black Hole. Man that got fast after like the 13th link.

I have realized that the more quickens you have, the easier it is to pull of combos. When I had 3 level 1s, all I could do is maybe a 4-hit combo, but now that I have 5 level 3s I can get atleast 8 with out even pressing the R2 button. So if you are having trouble with quickens, just try to get more before you start complaining that you stink :)

Wow, a Black Hole finish? I always seem to get Inferno, Torrent, Ark Lash and one time I got a wind-based ending.

The max chain I linked was 11. Do I need at least 13 to get the Black Hole?

PS - are these finishings ACTUALLY elemental based, or did the creators of FFXII just need to make them look cool? Because if they're elemental based, that kinda sucks since you might end up healing the foe if the wrong finishing comes up.

Mm, when you do a quickening, the character's name has to be lighted in order to use their quickening.
If no characters have their name in white letters, press "R2" to shuffle, and hope that one will light up (the button you're supposed to press appears next to their name)...
>> It took me a loong time to realize this....

If you have all 3 characters with full MP, when you start a quickening with one of them, the other two will always have an option to use their quickening at first (as long as their MP is full). Once you've used theirs, their MP will go to zero and they might be greyed out, and you begin to need to shuffle.
This means then...if you have three characters, you want to try to get the characters you've done quickenings already with to do another one--only if you can't find another quickening, then you can just press the character with full MP's button (it's always lighted).

<<
And like, you can do quickenings four times in a row...
I had lv1 quickenings for Vaan, Balthier, Fran, and Ashe, and Penelo & Basch didn't have any...
So when I entered a battle against a boss, I had a party with Vaan, Penelo, and Basch, and only Vaan had a quickening. I used it, and chained as many times alone as I could with Vaan, and then I switch one of the non-quickening people out. Then I do the quickening again, with the second person (and both Vaan and the new person can do it). Then, I switch out the third for another person with quickenings, and I can do it with all three peoples' quickenings...
And I can switch again and do it again with the last person...

If you wanted to do it like that, you could get one (or more) for everyone, start with one person on the field, and do it with him/her. Then you bring in the next person, do it again, rinse and repeat bringing in only 1 new person each time. This would get a total of 6 in a row.

This will show everyone what quickenings look like when going through with the R2 button. Another nice treat is the 99 quickening combo.
