Anyone here ever played this game? I played this at a friend's house for a little while the other day and it looked like it might be all right, but I don't really know much about it. So I just thought I'd ask here and see if anyone's played it and if they think it would be worth seeking it out to continue.

You'll enjoy Baldur's Gate if you enjoy Dungeons & Dragons style gaming; in fact its hailed as the best computerized D&D game ever made by many. The story is interesting and well-told, graphics and audio were awesome in 1999 and still hold their own today, and the game is a huge time-waster with a whole hell of a lot to do.

Its a very traditional game, but it does a lot well and will probably keep you entertained for a while. It would probably be cheap as chips these days to, so yeah, a definite buy if you ask me.

Bunnyman is pretty much right on all counts. However, it's worth noting that while Baldur's Gate itself is an excellent game, it's totally eclipsed by its sequel. Basically, if you try it and like it, you cannot afford to pass up Baldur's Gate 2.

Also remember that it is D&D based, so it's significantly different from Japanese games, especially in that the final boss is actually the greatest challenge the game presents. It literally took me two weeks to beat the bastard.

Okay, thanks Mr. Bunniesworth and Prak. I'll look into it.

I have fond memories of both games but could never really get into either. I own both, though, so maybe I should take Baldur's Gate 2 for a spin again sometime and see what happens.

Both games might immerse casual gamers more then they would actually like; so I think you really have to want to put some time aside for these titles if you're going to get the most out of them. But its time well spent, they really are wonderful games.

I've played them both to. They're both pretty fun dungeon crawlers. The game is pretty good by yourself but very fun with other friends, thats how I played it.

Oh wow. I just remember a few weeks during the summer my friend and I could not stop playing Baulder's Gate 2.
The purchase of both games is totally worth it and I would even give you the money just so you could experience the game.

To be honest Neverwinter Nights pisses all over Baldurs Gate if your computer can handle it. But it doesn't require much. The online play is immense to. I bought Baldurs Gate after NWN and couldn't get into it as it just lacked that magic that NWN has.

Hey, Hi! I'm new here.

What can I say? I REALLY LOVE Baldur's Gate I and II, they are old, yes, but better than many new games. Icewind Dale saga is very good too.
So, if you like rpgs, you will like BG.

About Neverwinter Nights... well I'm not a fan, in fact it disappointed me.

Nice site, by the way.
Goodbye!

I always find it pleasantly amusing when someone says that English is their second language and issue an apology when their English is actually better than so many people on this site who were born and raised in the United States or some other English-speaking country.

I am currently forcing Cassie, upon pain of death, to play the first Baldur's Gate with me. She would probably like it if she didn't have to play it with me.

As for NWN, it had it's pros, but I feel that the infinity engine games were clearly superior, especially Baldur's Gate and Planescape: Torment.
