ive read many reviews

they all say that its a huge letdown and only the most serious of the serious fans of the advent children cloud thingy would appreciate the 50dollar price tag just to find out a little more about wut happens

idk just my thoughts... not reallytho more like the reviewers thoughts

Not sure where Yeoren has been but this game has had shit written all over it since the day the concept was conceived.

The only reason I completed the game was to properly criticize it. I feel bad for the kids who buy these games.

Sure, the reviews haven't exactly been glowing, but never let the reviews affect your own judgement of a product. If you really want to check it out for yourself, rent or buy it, don't disregard it just because someone else didn't like it.

Zulu, that mentality is what allows developers to churn out crap and turn a profit. Square-Enix knows that their recent products on the FFVII line have been garbage, but they also know that people are going to try it anyway. They know that it'll sell, so they make no effort. Because of that, listening to reviews and not buying the game is the only way to protest the practice.

I got it as an early birthday present, so I didn't have to sepnd a damn dime on it. 8D The game for me could only be described as "eh". It's exactly what I expected from a spinoff sequel. But meh, it keeps me entertained when I'm bored, I suppose.

But you know? If all the little Vincent fangirls are creaming their pants over it, then by all means, let 'em do it. It's not my time they're wasting.

The game's FMV's are wonderful...=]

But the gameplay itself....
><
Squarenix could have done so many more things with this! But even the way the general fights handle isn't very good....
It's not completely unplayable...but...mm. I can't say I wasn't disappointed....

Why is he shooting all the way over there when there's someone right beind him. STUPID LIMIT BREAKS! YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE TO SHOOT ON LIMIT BREAKS!" I, myself, don't really feel the need to play it, and this is speaking as someone who likes FFVII.

okay, I'll assume you've played all 3 DMC games...so i'll disagree with you and say that DMC2 was more enjoyable and offered more of a challenge than this piece of shit that they try to call a game
sure...there are others out there that are worse...but at least they don't carry the hefty pricetag that this does
i'm just glad that it was a friend of mine that rented it so i wouldn't have to spend a dime on that junk...after i tore the shit up and yawned at the "extra hard" mode, we laughed and proceeded to play DMC3 for kicks and realized that people would have to be completely out of their minds to even compare any of the DMC games to DoC
there's no comparison to be made...even the second one was miles more difficult on the default difficulty

I totally agree with you. If some Joe guy says OMFG <so and so> has <this weapon> and does <something worse than another thing in another game> than the game sucks!!

A real example that I come across a lot is how many people don't respect old titles. Hey, 15 - 20 years ago, 3-D was unheard of. Games like Final Fantasy VII, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, and many others weren't even thought of. For instance, my favourite all time game is a 2D game with visuals like Final Fantasy III (birds eye view, can't think of the name of the view style name oh and battle screens were real-time, you never went into another screen), and the game is called Ys Book I and II for the Turbografx-16.

Dirge of Cerberus is a limited appeal type of game. It's horrible in terms of gameplay (or doing anything worthwhile with the action genre) but some FFVII or Vincent fans in their own will take to it and find it enjoyable. Though it's probably Square's worst work.

This my true honest opinion, I am not joking or being sarcastic.

Ok, Square knows that DoC was shit and that the Hard Mode made people laugh, but they did it all for a reason and on purpose.

They made the game so easy that anyone can just pick it up and play it. You must also realize that most of the FFVII fanbase are kids from the ages of 8-14. They also know that these kids don't care about the price but the title of the game.

Mix this altogether and you get the heap of shit that is Dirge of Cerberus.

IF I could give a reason to play this game...it would be to use Vincent's limit breaks in real time. Other than that...It was kinda like Devil May Cry which really wasn't my cup of tea. I don't think it's a horrible game, but it wasn't spectacular either. Go for Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria: a worthy investment.

just because they extended the story doesn't mean that they improved upon the bullshit they already released

whether its bullshit or not, square intentionally wanted the game to be in action style,

if it was action they wanted...they sure didn't make it that way...i mean...i'll go and borrow it from someone to prove you can make short work of extra hard mode while fingerbanging my girl if that's what it takes
and in other words...the game shouldn't have been released...they should have made a children's pop-up book out of the storyline if they wished to "expand" on ff7's story

1.) This website is not solely based on Final Fantasy topics.

I think he stopped posting as suddenly as he started. There's another thread (I think in the FFVII forum), where a chat log had been posted of SI completely spazzing out, apparently because Prak wouldn't ban himself.

Hahah that was too funny.

I kind if wish that kid could have stuck around longer to brighten up my day with his posts.
Oh well.

Same. You can just tell instantly this wasn't a Grade 10 kkid. More like some random kid in Grade 5 thinking he's cool because he plays FF.

Bottom Line, action shooter game fans will love this game, but Final Fantasy fans better keep away.

I second that. Square is good on RPGs (or w/e anyone wants to call them), thats the end of it. Any other kind of game would never be good. This game is a completly waste of money and time

To be honest, it's not the best game ever made by Square but it is fun to play through at least once or twice. It tried to be a Devil May Cry game but fell flat on it's face because the developer's decided not to make Vincent's movements quick enough or fluid enough to have intense fast paced combat situations. Instead you run around like a tank doing double jumps while the auto-target system does all the work for you and using the occasional hi-potion or something.

Probably the thing I liked most about the game was the story line and because it had Vincent in it. I've always been interested in him and I've wanted to know his background and that's exactly what you learn here. It was also nice to see a lot of the old crew once again with Advent Children quality visuals.

How is the music? And the locations? Are they relevant to the ff7 world?

Just don't bother with the game, period.

Have to admit that I did briefly wonder if this might be any better than the original FF7 game when first hearing about it. From the sounds of it though I did the right thing by deciding not to take an interest in it.

I liked it. And this is perhaps because I'm not a die-hard gamer. Since I'm horrible at shooter games, and am directionally challenged, I thought gameplay was at a right level. I thought there were some interesting aspects of the game, such as the customization of guns and the use of magic.

I played it mainly for plot and I think there's plenty of that. Think of it as one giant interactive movie.

The music is great, composed entirely by hamauzu (except for that gackt part). Unfortunately, my sound system was crappy when I played it so I couldn't hear all the details. But I do highly recommend getting the soundtrack. Lots of gems in there.

As for locations, not as many FF7 places as I've hoped there would be. There was the mansion but it was a pretty depressing place.

Anyway, my suggestion is: play if you're interested enough in the plot (namely vincent's past). If you want a devil may cry shooter experience or ff rpg, then stay away. Or, if you suck at shooters and want something less intense.

Sadly, Japanese companies lack FPS development experience. The games aim and controls just when downhill as a result of the lack of finis on the developers part. They did a great job with the cutscenes, decent plot (in some opinions), and overall graphics. Yet, it mostly falls short of what a more experienced company on the field with half the budget could of done. It's only recently that FPS styled games have been the focus of developers because it's an untapped market.

To put it simply, the FPS game was supposed to be a great fusion of Final Fantasy Storytelling, Cutscenes, and RPG elements thrown into an FPS game in order to create a new audience and franchise of sorts for Square-Enix. Unfortunately, it was only halfway successful as a hybrid and not done well enough for either type of gamer (excluding fanboys/girls) to enjoy.

Those were my worthless 2 cents.

Dirge of Cerberus is a good game but many players was desepointed because of the story wasn't as good as FF7 and Avent Children and the game play was more a shot than a RPG, but whi cares about the critical in fact some players who didn't like Doc have probably never played to final fantasy 7

Bringing this back to the topic, is this game worth full price because it was so bad i saw this game in japan for 1000 yen ( about $12.50 aus) and the only thing worse was BoF 5 which was 479yen ( a little over $6.00 aus) and didn't the japanese version have online play

V Guyver

If oyu have the USA vesrsion, then you cannot play, it was removed due to lack of popularity in the USA towards "Playonline" which was the main online gaming server for Squaregames.

The USA version had some major changes over the japanese version. Vincent was faster, weapons could be made lighter, limit breaks could be used with items and didn't drain the magic bar, and Vincint could do a midair doublejump and melee while in the air. Some added levels that were from the online game were tweaked and added as hidden levels. The game lost Easy move here in the states, but instead gained an extra hard mode that unlocks several things like those hidden levels. The loss of online mode, also meant the loss of added story to the game as several plot arcs were in the online version. Frankly, Square screwed up on a few things.

I enjoyed playing this game...

However that's not to say it was a good game, decent maybe. Replay value is almost none. I finished it and enjoyed it for some of the plot value and because I enjoy Vincent as a character, but I won't be playing it again for a long time. Was it worth the 50$...probably not, but I enjoyed it all the same. Square was trying to do something new...and it didn't get up to par for being part of the final fantasy series...but at the same time I can understand how they thought it was a good idea...they wanted to further the story with Vincent right? Well Vincent uses a gun...make it a SHOOTER! Kind of a misguided idea, but I understand the thought process.

In any event, that's all I've got

would of made more sense if it was treated with Vagrant Story gameplay. That would of worked well with Vincent insteasd of this mess. I think we can all agree that this is a rental for fans, and only a keeper for the hardcore fans.

as a FF game in a whole this game stunk. as a shooter, simplicity at its best is all I can say. I have been a fan of FF since 1 came out, and the only way I would own this game is for adding to my collection, the only part that even got a rise out of me was at the end when you entered his flight sequence.

5/10 for ruining a great series with this spin off

I never played it and I probably never will. I think it's the only one I didn't care about. Maybe because it was a shooter, but I enjoy shooters too. Maybe I had enough FFVII for this millenia.

Also the Vagrant Story gameplay idea isn't too shabby. I probably would have preferred something like Parasite Eve's (the first one) battle system. I would definitely pick that up.

I might be alone in saying that I thouroughly enjoyed this game from start to finish. Shooters aren't Square's strong suit, so give 'em a break!! I mean, could you have done better? I'm not trying to start an arguement or anything, but I think the reason that you didn't enjoy it was simply because your expectations were too high. But, to each his own I suppose. ^_^

i played the game some days ago and i like it...in the moment i knew it was going tho be a mix betwen RPG and a shooter i spected something like the game...now... the story talking about vincent tho me was interesting...you can discover more of his past and thats all...think about it like "the side adventures of vincent valentine"...because of that i didnt get disapointed...for the game play...vincent is a little bit clumsy and have some flaws but in general i it wasnt that bad, the only thing that was really pestering was the melee atack sometimes, aside of that is good...of course i am not very exigent about the game play itself...i can play even nes games and be happy...tho end this i will say that tho me the game was good...i have some fun playing it so as far as it concerns me is good

ps: if mi gramatics arent good enought sorry but im not american dont expect me tho write perfectly
