Personally, I love Gackuto Camui.. Mind Forest and Lust for Blood never cease to amuse me........
X-Japan/Hide RULES.......Art of Life, while pretty long, 28:56, has to be one of the greatest songs ever made... (they closed down the Hide museum.....*tear*)
Hyde is pretty cool, too....Jesus Christ is one of his best songs.....
Malice Mizer(gackt's ex-band)- is freaking miraculous.
Yoshiki (X-Japan's drummer) is simply a godsend.......He has been quoted saying he is forming a "Superband" with GACKT and that they will be touring the US in '07..........
I love Nobuo Uematsu- this guy is nothing less than a musical genius....
Koda Kumi/Jade from Sweetbox/Rikki/Faye Wong/ Utada Hikaru/Angela Aki- all have magical voices...although they aren't exactly J-Rock, they're J-Pop, so it technically is relative

I PROUDLY PRACTICE GACKTISM

yes, we all know he did swear it off...But in a "fairly" recent interview he announced the he IS in fact starting a band with Gackt and You.......
Here's the quote, and below that is one of the many refernces......
so watch who you say is wrong.....

"Fan question: "What are your plans after Violet UK?"

Yoshiki: "What, you mean after Violet UK breaks up? (laughing fans) It hasn't
started yet. Um, um. I have one, actually, I'm doing one more band. I can
talk about it, right? Um, yes, Um Yes, actually, I'm doing solo stuff as um,
kind of classical artist, I guess (mumble) main thing is Violet UK.
I'm also starting a band with a guy, probably you guys know, Gackt (insert fangirl
screaming) I know, but, um, we are starting a band together as well. Yeah,
that was kind of a secret, but we've been talking about it, but last night I
talked to him and then, I talk about it today and he's like 'Cool'."

Do As Infinity broke up, but the vocal Van Tomiko is still active.

I don't know if artists like Ayumi Hamasaki, Zard or Younha count as J-rock, but they sound decent enough.

Bump of Chicken, Glay, Porno Graffiti, Yellow Monkeys, Penicillin are worthwhile. Er... And Sound Horizon is kind of like anime music. They are really catchy. If you like Yuki Kajiura, check out her former trio band See-Saw.

Garnet Crow and Gackt are my favorites, though.

I wonder how many people actually know Gackt is a dude.

I use to be big into jpop when i was in highschool. After i grabbed a lot of the mainstream music i found i didn't know and couldn't find out what the good stuff was without actually learning the language. So i gave up looking for new stuff.

There are two types of bands. There's the shit they put on the radio and play 24/7 and theres the stuff that people actually want to listen to. Kind of like the difference between britney spears and tool.

JROCK! My passion! I like many many bands out there, but my favorite groups/singers are:

Gackt - Yes, he IS JRock. He's got his Pop songs but he's started going towards Rock lately (which is fantastic!). Every new release of his, aside from the song he made for that graduation, is rock.

Miyavi, Dir en Grey (I got to see them live at the Family Values Tour. Kyo cut himself twice (had this lady walk out because of it) and tripped over his microphone cord >.<), BUCK-TICK, Rentrer en Soi, 12012, Kagrra, Alice Nine, L`arc~en~Ciel, abingdon boys school (hasn't anyone heard of them?! They're great!), XJapan, Janne da Arc...

I could go on and on, but I guess I'll stop there LOL. I've got so much JRock in my media library it's scary @_@. I'd say 95% of what I have in there is JRock...

BTW, for you Laraku fans, new single out 10/10/07! (That's right around my birthday! I'm so excited! Yes...I pre-ordered...)

Chatmonchy (J-pop/rock)

Kaya (Visual-kei, techno)
Kozi (Visual-kei)

L'Arc~en~Ciel (J-pop/rock)
Malice Mizer (Visual-kei)

If you've ever heard anything by Gackt at all, you'd know that he DOES warble. He has always had that vibrato in his voice, even when he started out in Malice Mizer. While that's your opinion, I find that calling him "rubbish" is rather rude of you. For being "rubbish" he makes a heck of a lot of money and has a massive fan base to boot.

Hyde's solo stuff is a lot different than the L`arc stuff is. It's to be expected though. Frankly, I like all his works. When he goes solo, he tries to maintain his own special style rather than be repetitive and sing the same way as he would in the band.

I can't wait for the new album to come out! November, I think it is. I might pre-order it.

i said he sounded like a warbling poof, which is an acknowledgement that he does. thats what i dont like about him, it sounds like shit. he's successful, good for him, i still think he's shit.

listen to secret garden by gackt. if not for the vocals (which are not very warbly-poofy in that one anyway, very stable and etheral), then for the supremely sublime composition. it's so much better than every other song by him (although i haven't heard many, i somehow imagine no other could come close to being as good as secret garden). the orchestral instrumental freesia op.2 is pretty damn sweet too.

Here's a bit of variety since everyone is posting mainly visual kei...

Tsu Shi Ma Mi Re, Mummy the Peepshow, Mean Machine (broke up long time ago), Polysics (was mentioned), MOSAIC.WAV (more techno-ish), Dj Sharpnel (does beats and stuff), Perfume (kind of like video-game techno music), Spin Aqua (lead singer sings in both fluent english and Japanese), YMCK (video game/techno), Shonen Knife (also mentioned) and Miyavi (old stuff before the album Dokuso was released).

Also forgot to add Hotei Tomoyasu...he's an amazing guitarist.

i'm pretty sure he'll be playing drums in the x-japan reunion happening soon, where there'll be a guest guitarist for every track in hide's place.
also, it was when x-japan broke up that he quit drums, hide died after they broke up.

he didn't quit drums, he just avoided them for a while

and no

its still hide

unreleased recorded tracks of him playing and other things
edited to fit the songs

But here are a couple I haven't seen mentioned yet:

The Roosters
Yurayura Teikoku

Do yourselves a favor and check some of these out. Some of you have really good taste (or at least tastes similar to mine), so I know you'll dig them. Perhaps some uploads are in order...:)

Have you ever been to a live performance? Or even seen one for that matter? I've listened to the lives, have all his songs, he does NOT lip sync. The only time he would is when he's making his PV's, but then again, ALL artists do that.

I want news on S.K.I.N! NOW!

I've been stroked by Gackt.... literally I mean he stroked me with his hand lol, very odd chap he is ha ha

and I have Miyavi tattooed across my chest but otherwise I don't see the point of liking something on the basis of it being japanese, although i must say it is nice to be able to listen to a voice as just another instrument for the most part and not be distracted by godawful lyrics.

SUP NECROBUMPS I'm gonna get up ons this shit.

I've started to dig into this whole Japanese rock music scene thing, a little bit. I've been turned onto Spiral Chord, who take the concept of music, and make the whole ordeal more noise than the music. I dig it in a big bad way;

YouTube - Burn up the cell (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jpf7qgGMb_s)

It's so loud! I also found this 'Sloth Love Chunks' band, which I'm not crazy about. I really like the instrumentals, I can dig what the guitars and drums (despite them being obviously programmed) are doing, but the vocals aren't my thing.

YouTube - Sloth Love Chunks - Hizumi Loop (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OltbqacTG48)

If anyone's familiar with this type of noisy Japanese rock, make some suggestions to a brotha. The brotha in this instance being me.

I love the music of J.A Caesar or J.A. Memi and Neo-Matisse.
