I saw Adamant Barrage's FFVII game and I thought this would be a great concept to bring here. After all, FFIX is the favorite FF game of many of the regular Shriners and we could have some good times with this game.

The rules are as follows. Questions are given in multiple-choice A-D with values ranging from 100 to one million gil. Questions start very easy and get progressively harder. Once you reach 1000, you keep it no matter what and the same goes for 32000. If you answer a question and get it wrong, you're out and you drop back to that dollar amount.

Entrants are determined by the fastest finger --- putting four choices in order. First to put it in order wins. After that, that person is in the hot seat. Very important: <font color="red">Only the person in the hot seat can answer questions</font>. If you blurt out a correct answer and you're not in the hot seat, you will be disqualified from all future games and the contestant can use the answer you posted if they so choose.

Because I want you to win as much as possible, you have these lifelines to help you

50:50 --- The simplest. This eliminates two wrong answers.

Ask the Audience --- When you ask the audience, anyone reading the thread may post the answer they think is correct, even if they're not in the Hot Seat. <font color="red">This is the only time you may answer unless it's either a Fastest Finger or you're in the Hot Seat</font>. --- Agent0042: This lifeline has been scrapped, it is no longer available.

Switch the Question --- Replace the current question with one of generally equal difficulty level, but possibly about different subject matter. This lifeline replaced Ask the Audience.

Phone a Friend --- Name any Shriner you wish, except myself or a member of the current Experts' Panel. I will send a private message to them and ask them what their answer is. If they don't respond within 24 hours, you lose the lifeline. If they choose not to participate, you lose the lifeline. So it would be good to clear it in advance.

I am also tossing in three additional lifelines to make things fun:

Ask Google/GameFAQs/FFShrine Main Site/etc. --- Normally by participating, you agree that you are not cheating by looking up the answers. If you use this lifeline, you may use any such online resource to help you. If you are using this lifeline, just go ahead and use it and then tell me that you're using it when you answer the question. This lifeline kicks in at 8000 gil.

Double Dip --- This is lifted from Super Millionaire. You may give two answers to the question. Used in combination with 50:50, this can guarantee a correct answer. Again, if you use this, just go ahead and put two answers and say that you're using it. This kicks in at 16000 gil.

Ask the Experts --- This lifeline kicks in at 64000 gil. Also lifted from Super Millionaire. A panel of three experts will be selected and you can go to them for an answer. If they don't respond within 24 hours, you lose any that don't respond.

Once you're in the Hot Seat, you have up to 48 hours to respond to the question. Don't abuse this privilege though --- if you make us wait two days, then the time you have next time to answer will decrease.

So, if everybody's ready, then it's time for our first fastest finger question:

Place these characters in order from the time they first become playable in battle:

A.) Eiko
B.) Beatrix
C.) Blank
D.) Steiner

P.S.: I will be posting a leaderboard of people's scores, to add incentive to go for the big values.

P.P.S.: If you'd like to be an "expert," send me a PM.

Angel Kratos

Steiner
Beatrix
Eiko

Agent0042
10-18-2006, 07:32 PM
Thank you Angel Kratos. That is the correct order! Well, you know the rules, you know the lifelines, so if you're ready, let's play Who Wants to Be a Final Fantasy Millionaire!

For $100:

Which of the following is the very first thing said by the main character Zidane:

A.) "Who goes there?"
B.) "Sure is dark..."
C.) "It's me, Zidane!"
D.) "What a peaceful night."

Angel Kratos
10-18-2006, 08:04 PM
Sure is dark...

Agent0042
10-18-2006, 08:07 PM
Correct!

Your next question, for 200 gil:

Which of the following is not an actual location within the game:

A.) Lindblum
B.) Fossil Roo
C.) Ivalice
D.) Esto Gaza

Angel Kratos
10-18-2006, 08:08 PM
Ivalice.

Agent0042
10-18-2006, 08:12 PM
Correct! Very good. Ivalice is the setting for the upcoming Final Fantasy XII an was in Tactics Advance I believe.

Now playing for 300 gil:

If you were Zidane and you were heading into a cafe in Lindblum, which of the following would you most likely order?

A.) Today's Special
B.) Beer
C.) The "Silly Special"
D.) The "Stupid Special"

Angel Kratos
10-18-2006, 08:20 PM
I will go 50 : 50

Agent0042
10-18-2006, 08:28 PM
Okay, let's randomly eliminate two wrong answers, leaving one wrong answer and the correct answer.

The random elimination has eliminated the following --- A.) and B.)

You are left with:

C.) The "Silly Special"
D.) The "Stupid Special"

Angel Kratos
10-18-2006, 08:30 PM
Silly special.

Agent0042
10-18-2006, 08:34 PM
Ooh, ouch. No, I'm sorry, Angel, but Zidane actually asked for the "stupid special."

(sigh) It really hurts when someone is eliminated that early, but on we go. So contestants, if you're ready, here's your next fastest finger question:

Sort the following mandatory Active Time Events in which they occur, starting with the earliest:

A.) Eiko's Kitchen
B.) Queen Brahne's Steiner
C.) The Forest Keeper
D.) Deep Anger

P.S.: If you have already played, you cannot play again unless nobody responds with the correct answer to the Fastest Finger within 36 hours.

Agent0042
10-19-2006, 04:53 AM
Man, really sorry, ROKI, but that's not the right answer either. Contenders, come forward and play Fastest Finger! If someone else has answered --- don't worry, you might have the right answer and they might not.

Hint --- The "Deep Anger" Active Time Event involves Kuja.

Mr Jack
10-19-2006, 10:03 AM
Stab in the dark

C,B,A,D

Agent0042
10-19-2006, 10:35 AM
Hey irvine.rocky, that was really a good stab in the dark because you're actually absolutely right. C. The Forest Keeper (very first ATE), B. Queen Brahne's Steiner (Lindblum), A. Eiko's Kitchen (just after you meet her) and D. Deep Anger (snap to Kuja during scenes at Lindblum Grand Castle.)

You know about the rules. You know about the lifelines. So if you're ready, let's play Who Wants to Be a Final Fantasy IX Millionaire!

For 100 gil, which of the following is the vocal piece played during the closing credits. Is it:

A.) Eyes on Me
B.) Melodies of Love
C.) Melodies of Life
D.) Suteki da Ne

Mr Jack
10-19-2006, 10:40 AM
lmao - really!!

(nice pic btw - very proffesional) - im not really that into FFIX so im not expecting to be in that long!!

hmm, this one seems to be a mix between B & C.

I know Eyes on me is FF8 and Suteki De Na is X (both are class songs)

im gonna go for C - no use in using a lifeline yet. (is this one supposed to be easy cause im struggling!!)

Agent0042
10-19-2006, 10:47 AM
Yeah, it's supposed to be easy, although all questions could be asked at any time with the assumption that you've played through the entire game at least once. C. is indeed the correct answer, with B.) being a trick.

Let's continue for 200 gil. Regent Cid Fabool first appears in this game as an:

A.) Oglop
B.) Human
C.) Frog
D.) Genome

Mr Jack
10-19-2006, 10:50 AM
an oglop - that looks like a frog

(A) - i can remember that one (god how stupid would i look if i am wrong now!!)

Agent0042
10-19-2006, 12:27 PM
An Oglop is, of course, correct. Turns into a frog later, of course.

On we go, now for 300 gil. The black mages in the Black Mage Village call their chocobo:

A.) Boko
B.) Billy Conway
C.) Desmond Greenwald
D.) Bobby Corwen

Mr Jack
10-19-2006, 12:30 PM
ooohhh...im gonna have to take an ask the audience on that one please....

Be Sensible please audience!!

Agent0042
10-19-2006, 12:33 PM
Ooh, all right. Ask the Audience is now in play. Audience, using your keyboards, please vote A., B., C. or D. now. Audience --- please vote only A, B, C or D, please do not provide any sort of explanation along with your answer. You have up to 24 horus to get your vote in. irvine.rocky --- if at any time you are satisfied with the way the vote has gone so far, you may lock in an answer at any time. You may also choose to use another lifeline at any time during the audience vote.

To irvine.rocky --- when deciding, make sure to consider several factors --- I.E., the overall number of votes, the length of time the person posting has been on the boards, post count and what you know of how knowledgable that particular person is or isn't on Final Fantasy IX.

Nobody wants to live forever so D - Bobby Corwen

Agent0042
10-19-2006, 01:21 PM
:) Smart thinking, trusting Enya. That's an advantage of this lifeline in the message board version --- you know exactly who's voting for what. Enya has not led you wrong --- the chocobo is in fact Bobby Corwen.

We move on to a 500 gil question. Which of the following characters is not at all involved in the slew of love letters sequence? Is it:

A.) Baku
B.) Eiko
C.) Steiner
D.) Amarant

Mr Jack
10-19-2006, 01:29 PM
i think the answer is D amarant.

although im torn between him and Baku.

(I know that eiko and steiner is) I dunno, i have 50/50 chance so and amarant just doesnt really seem that tyoe anyway....IN FACT - im gonna go home and play FFIX again because i havent played it in ages (saving my last lifeline)

D --> AMARANT

Agent0042
10-19-2006, 01:34 PM
<font color="red">Correct</font>

You're right, it was Amarant. Amarant is not in that scene. Baku is the spoiler of the entire scene --- he shows up and starts sneezing and they complain that he ruined the romantic scene.

You've made it to the 1,000 gil question. Keep in mind that this is an important question because if you answer this correctly, you can't leave with less than 1,000 gil. But if you answer this incorrectly, you leave with nothing. So, for 1,000 gil, which of the following black magic spells can Vivi never cast? Is that:

A.) Doomsday
B.) Ultima
C.) Osmose
D.) Water

BTW, if anyone's interested, I still need Shriners for the Experts' Panel. This is for the Ask the Experts lifeline. Once you're on the panel, you become ineligible for Ask the Audience and Phone a Friend while you're on the panel, so consider carefully before joining.

Also, I wouldn't mind being on the Expert's Panel but if someone with more FFIX knowledge steps up, then choose them of course.
But just PM or let me know in here the final decision.

Agent0042
10-19-2006, 08:44 PM
Okay, you know what? Anyone that wants to be on the panel, just send me a PM.

<font color=red>Correct</font> --- Ultima is Kuja's special spell in this game.

Welcome back, everyone. We're here with irvine.rocky1. He's doing pretty well so far. He's won 1,000 gil and he's going for 2,000. Now irvine, that money is yours to keep, no matter what. You still have one lifeline left --- Phone a Friend and there'll be more lifelines kicking in if you reach the higher gil values. So let's continue with Who Wants to Be a Final Fantasy IX Millionaire! For 2,000 gil, which of the following is an actual Pluto knight? Is it:

A.) Haagen
B.) Smitzen
C.) Jamal
D.) Merzecht

Ceid is correct. You qualify by being the first person to get the Fastest Finger correct when there's nobody in the "Hot Seat." Currently, irvine.rocky1 is in the Hot Seat. There's a detailed and somewhat long-winded explanation on the first post in the thread.

Mr Jack
10-20-2006, 09:28 AM

Agent0042
10-20-2006, 01:26 PM
Well, normally I'm supposed to PM the Phone a Friend, but I guess it doesn't matter since Enya was reading the thread anyway.

<font color=red>Correct</font> --- Haagen is an actual Pluto Knight, paired with Weimar. The rest of those are all fake names I made up (well, okay, Jamal's actual name) to sound kinda like Pluto Knight names.

Okay, you've won 2,000 gil, you're now playing for 4,000 gil. You don't currently have any lifelines, but remember that if you reach the 8,000 gil mark, some of the fabulous new lifelines start kicking in. But if you answer at any time and get it wrong, your winnings drop back to 1,000 gil. So let's continue.

Which of the following is not an available option when Zidane tells Freya that it's terrible and from the looks of things, he doesn't think the King made it.

D.) Leave her alone

Mr Jack

Okay. Congratulations, irvine.rocky1, you've won 2,000 gil on Who Wants to Be a Final Fantasy IX Millionaire. Your name will be added to the list of previous players.

Let's find out what the correct answer is. Turns out it was:

B.) ... ... ... --- all of the others are responses you can use, but "... ... ..." would really be more of a Squall-ish statement.

Well, for someone who hadn't played FFIX recently, irvine.rocky1 did pretty well. But now it's time to put someone else in the Hot Seat. So if everyone's ready, here is your next Fastest Finger question. Place the following locations in the order in which they first become available to visit, starting with the latest:

A.) Gargan Roo
B.) Ipsen's Castle
C.) Conde Petie
D.) Lindblum Grand Castle

Swedish Fish

Ceidwad --- you're absolutely <font color=red>correct</font>! Enya, sorry, I was looking for them in reverse order of when you first get to visit them in the game.

All right, everybody, we're here with Ceidwad_yr_Arfau in the Hot Seat. Ceidwad is from Wales and has been with on the Shrine since July 2006. He lists his Interests as "Most sports and decent RPGs" and says that he "leeches off society as a student." We'll be back with Ceidwad to begin our game after this brief commercial interruption.

Zidane: Hey, Dagger, I found this really romantic place in another world! We gotta check it out!
Dagger: Oh, all right...

Important-Sounding Male Announcer: Final Fantasy VII's Gold Saucer --- home of many great attractions. The plays, the hotel, the games, the gondola, they've just about got it all here.

Zidane: Two, please!
Ticket-Taker at Gondola: That'll be 10 GP. How are ya' gonna pay?
Zidane: Charge it!
Ticket-Taker: (stares at credit card) I'm sorry, sir, we don't accept this card.

Announcer: So whether you're racing the chocobos or just looking for a little romance, you can do it at the Gold Saucer. But you'd better bring your Visa card. Because at the Gold Saucer, they serve people and creatures from many worlds, but they don't take American Express.

Dagger: Come on, Zidane, let's go home...
Zidane: Dammit!

Announcer: Visa. It's everywhere you want to be.

Agent0042: All right, we're back with Ceidwad_yr_Arfau. Ceidwad, you know the rules, you know the lifelines (and if you don't, it's all back in the first post of the thread), so if you're ready, let's play Who Wants to Be a Final Fantasy IX Millionaire? For 100 gil...

Which of the following characters is never playable?

A.) Zidane
B.) Kuja
C.) Blank
D.) Marcus

Ceidwad
10-20-2006, 06:02 PM
The correct answer, unfortunately, is B) Kuja. How cool would it be to play as him though?

Agent0042
10-20-2006, 06:07 PM
<font color=red>Correct</font>

:) Yeah, it would be pretty sweet. But you're right. You never do get to play as him. All right, we continue for 200 gil.

Which of these locations is only accessible once you receive the airship (and also accessible by gold chocobo):

A.) Esto Gaza
B.) Dali
C.) Iifa Tree
D.) Daguerreo

Ceidwad
10-20-2006, 06:16 PM
Tricky one. It obviously isn't Dali, and the Iifa Tree is accessible by foot too. I believe Esto Gaza can be reached via the boat on Disc 2/3, so the correct answer is Daguerreo, I'm fairly sure.

Agent0042
10-20-2006, 06:21 PM
<font color="red">Correct</font>

Daguerreo is on an island without any coastline, so there's no way you're getting to it without an airship or gold chocobo.

For 300 gil...

If you were Captain Steiner, which of the following first names would you answer to? Would it be:

A.) Philbrick
B.) Adam
C.) Adelbert
D.) Albert

Ceidwad
10-20-2006, 06:26 PM
That's Adelbert. Although I've always wondered why he's usually referred to as 'Steiner'-his surname-in the game.

Which of the following is not an actual Add-On? Is it:

A.) Coral Ring
B.) Turquoise Bandana
C.) Phoenix Pinion
D.) Yellow Scarf

Ceidwad
10-20-2006, 06:39 PM
That's B: Turquoise Bandana. To my knowledge, there is no such accessory. Coral Ring allows Freya to learn Lancer, Yellow Scarf raises strength and Phoenix Pinion can be used in the same way as a Phoenix Down, or can be equipped to learn the summon Phoenix.

B it is.

Agent0042
10-21-2006, 01:19 AM
<font color="red">Correct</font>

The turquoise bandana is just something I made up off the top-of-my-head. There is definitely no turqouise bandana.

Okay, well, you're playing for 1000 gil now. If you miss this one, you'll leave with nothing, but if you get this right, you can't leave with less than 1000 gil. So here we go...

The one-word description tag for Amarant that appears on his picture during the opening sequence most closely matches which of these Seven Deadly Sins? Is it:

A.) Lust
B.) Pride
C.) Sloth
D.) Avarice

Ceidwad
10-21-2006, 03:13 AM
Oh. Shit, that's a lot harder than I was expecting. I'm not entirely certain what Avarice means, but I can remember the one-word description for Amarant being 'Arrogance' which is similar to pride I suppose.

To be sure, can I ask the audience?

Agent0042
10-21-2006, 03:23 AM
Sure, you're welcome to ask the audience. Ask the Audience is now open. Audience, using your keyboards, please lock in A., B., C. or D. Please lock in only one of those answer choices --- do not provide any other explanation along with your post.

Ceidwad, you have up to 24 hours before you must post an answer or use another lifeline. You may choose to answer at any time you feel confident of the answer based on the audience vote so far. When considering the audience vote, you'll probably want to consider not just the number of people voting a particular answer, but also their post count, length of membership on the Shrine and your perception on how good you think their knowledge of FFIX, or the material covered in the question is.

You were absolutely right --- Amarant's one-word descriptor is Arrogance, and that basically translates to Pride. Avarice is anger or hatred, Sloth is of course laziness, and I think we're all pretty familiar with lust.

Ceidwad, you've reached the 1,000 gil mark. You can't leave with less than that, so you'll want to at least give an answer to this next question, no matter what. So, for 2,000 gil, let's play Who Wants to Be a Final Fantasy IX Millionaire?! (lights go down, more intense music starts up)

What tune imported from another Final Fantasy game plays during the ATE "Orchestra in the Forest?" Is this catchy tune:

A.) Infiltrating ShinRa Tower
B.) The Landing
C.) Rufus Welcoming March
D.) Edgar & Sabin / Mash

Enya --- actually, yeah, I prefer for the Phone-a-Friend to send me the response by PM and then I'll post it, just to be on the safe side. But no harm, no foul, your response was okay.

All right, we're playing for 8,000 gil now. This is kind of an important level, because if you get this one, another of the fantastic new lifelines kicks in. For the time being, you still have your 50:50 left, but remember that if you use it now, you won't be able to use it in conjunction with Double Dip later, so that might be something to keep in mind. So, for 8000 gil...

The line "Awesome! Engage according to mission parameters!" is said by which of the following characters:

A.) Rat Kid
B.) Kohel
C.) Lowell

Agent0042

<font color="red">Correct</font>

No slipping that one by you, Rat Kid, before you find out his name is Puck, says that one. Well, you've reached the 8,000 gil mark, which means that you now have access to an exciting new lifeline --- ask GameFAQs/FFShrine/Google. Basically, if you use this one, you can go off and check some FAQ or script at GameFAQs or over at the main FFShrine site, or Google something before answering the question. Caveat --- I am asking you check only one document/page, so please make your decision carefully before deciding which FAQ/page you'd like to consult. Normally, I trust that you're not off consulting some other site when answering the questions, but this lifeline rescinds that. If you use this lifeline, just do it and then say that you used it when you answer the question.

So, for 16000 gil...

In which of the following locations can you not find a coffee for the Morrid Quest? Is that:

A.) A South Gate Entrance

D.) Eiko's Porch

Agent0042
10-22-2006, 04:42 PM
<font color="red">Correct</font>

You won't find any coffee at Quan's Dwelling. The one at the windmill you really have to work for, the other two are easy. Well, you're now playing for 32000 gil. And good news, you now have access to Double Dip, which you can use to take two guesses at a question. If you use this after using 50:50, that's an automatic right answer. Of course, that also means you would burn two lifelines on one question, so consider it carefully. This is another important question because if you get this correct, you can't leave her with less than 32000 gil. So, for 32000 gil...

What is the name of the Self-Proclaimed Artist who lives in Lindblum? Is this Self-Proclaimed Artist:

A.) Monty
B.) Merriweather
C.) Michael
D.) Milford

Ceidwad
10-22-2006, 04:54 PM
Erm, I'll have to use my Double Dip here. If I was pushed I'd say Michael but I don't remember that part of the game too well. Plus with 32000 round the corner, I think it's the best choice.

I'll use my Double Dip and answer both A and C.

Agent0042
10-22-2006, 05:17 PM
Okay, Double Dip is active, meaning that by answering A.) and C.), you've guaranteed yourself the 32,000 gil level. And you're correct, it actually is Michael. His studio has one of the potions that ultimately end up transforming Regent Cid into a frog.

Well, you've reached 32,000 gil, so you can't walk away with less than that. This next question is essentially a free guess. You don't currently have any lifelines, although if you get this one right, you'll gain access to the Ask the Experts lifeline. We're playing for 64,000 gil now, five questions away from 1,000,000 gil.

Which of the following is a name of a Chocograph location as it appears on the Chocograph list? Is it:

A.) Hot Springs
B.) Hidden in the Moonlight
C.) Barren Wasteland
D.) Sea At Dusk

Ceidwad
10-22-2006, 05:27 PM
I never completed the Chocograph side-quest, so I've no idea. I'll take a stab in the dark and say D: Sea at Dusk. The furthest I got in the Chocograph quest was getting Choco the river and mountain ability, which implies that further ones would be in the deep water. Hence the reasoning behind my guess.

I'm probably wrong but either way I have nothing to lose so I'll go for D.

Agent0042
10-22-2006, 10:34 PM
<font color=red>Correct</font>

Your instincts were right. Sea At Dusk is an actual one, the others are just ones I made up. You've reached the 64,000 gil level, which means you now have access to the Ask the Experts lifeline. You're playing for 125,000 gil now. We're talking big stuff here. If you get this wrong, you'll drop back down to 32,000 gil.

So here it is, for 125000 gil...

FF1WithAllThieves comments that Missiles is just a variation on Quistis Blue Magic, and the other two are FFVII Enemy Skills. You were right to trust the panel --- the others are from other games or made up. Well, you're out of lifelines, but you've been doing great. You're playing for 250,000 gil now. If you risk and you're wrong, you'll only leave with 32,000 gil. But let's take a look at the question for 250,000 gil...

Which of the following is not an actual Tetra Master rank? Is it:

A.) Shark
B.) Shuffler
C.) Authority
D.) Trader

Ceidwad
10-24-2006, 01:08 AM
Flippin heck that's difficult. I know Shark was an actual rank, but the other three I'm pretty uncertain on. But I've made it this far and I've got a bit of a feeling it's B: Shuffler.

I'm only about 50% sure, but it's only imaginary gil. I'm guaranteed 32000 which is a bloody lot of gil in anyone's book. And if I make it to 500000 gil I've got my eye on that villa in Costa Del Sol. Cloud says he won't sell for less than 600K, but I'm confident my haggling skills are better than his. ;-)

Yeah, I've made up my mind, I'm going for Shuffler. It doesn't sound like a real rank to me, which is probably bullshit logic to base my answer on, but ah well!

PS can you tell me straight away whether I'm right or wrong, and then post the next question (if I'm right) later? Reason I ask is as it's 1 am over here in Wales and I'm working tomorrow!

Thanks.

Agent0042
10-24-2006, 01:27 AM
<font color="red">Correct</font>

Yeah, you were only taking a guess, but yep, you got it right. Shuffler is a fake one I made up. The rest are all real Tetra Master ranks. Good going.

All right, next question going up later. In the meantime, the program will break for the following message from our sponsor:

------

Zidane: (speaking using Kuja's voice) So I just used the "Steal" command and there it was. 1,000,000 gil line and it was all mine. A little redecorating for the palace here. A few more spooky lamps, a better security system and 100,000 gil to aid in my plan. My master plan! (laughs evilly)

All right, let's keep going. You've really been doing well. You took a risk and it paid off. You're up to 250000 gil. If you risk this next one and you're wrong, again, you'll be back down 32000 gil. But if you get it right, it's 500000 gil, just one level away from the million. So let's take a look at the question for 500000 gil...

In Lindblum, in the Business District, Vivi encounters two kids playing with "Royal Action Figures." He comments that they're like the black mages --- the figurines. The names of these two kids are:

A.) Poncho and Phillipo

D.) Anne and James

I'm going to have to walk with the 250,000 gil as I've absolutely no idea here. It's been about ten months since my last playthrough of FFIX and I've only completed the game twice.

Don't think I'll be getting that villa in Costa Del Sol now, but what with global warming, it's easy to get something cheap in Icicle Inn these days. I'll have a look there. ;-)

FFIX Millionaire will return following this special...

Behind the Scenes --- More Than You Ever Wanted to Know About FFIX Millionaire

In this special, we will examine the game and its host in more depth...

Agent0042: So, how did you come up with the idea for Final Fantasy IX Millionaire?
Agent0042: Well, I saw Adamant Barrage's thread over in the FFVII section and I knew I just had to try this. I was a big fan of Millionaire when it aired on ABC and I thought this would make a good concept for the FFIX section.

Agent0042: How do you determine the questions for the game?
Agent0042: Sometimes I just determine them off the top of my head, but for some of the tougher ones, I refer to scripts and FAQs at GameFAQs, as well as the main FFShrine site. The questions for the earlier dollar values are intended be stuff that are really easy, that anyone who'd played the game at least once the whole way should know. Then it starts getting into sidequests and other tougher stuff. I'm not going to say exactly what a million dollar question would look like, but expect it to be something really tough and obscure and use those lifelines well.

Agent0042: So what exactly do the questions cover?
Agent0042: Basically, anything related to FFIX is fair game. You might see something related to the music, the FMVs, a quote from the game, even references in Kingdom Hearts. FFIX is such a narrow scope compared to the general trivia covered on the actual Millionaire that you really have to cover just about every aspect to keep it challenging and interesting.

Agent0042: Explain the experts panel, please.
Agent0042: Sure! The "experts panel" is based on the Three Wise Men lifeline from Super Millionaire. It's a panel of three experts that become avalable when the contestant reaches the 64000 gil level. To be on the panel, you need to send me a PM. Also, ideally, you need to have been a former contestant and reached at least the 32000 gil level or have been someone that's been on the Shrine for a while and/or has been regularly active in this section. Oh, and the members of the panel are rotated from time-to-time. While you're on the panel, you're ineligible to play, or to be used as a Phone a Friend.

Agent0042: Regis Millionaire or syndicated Meredith Viera Millionaire --- which do you prefer?
Agent0042: Regis, definitely. Viera is a competent enough host, but syndicated Millionaire airs a bit too often and I could never really get into it. The Regis version was great, but ABC really aired it too much and drove it into the ground. Still, Super Millionaire was awesome and I hope to maybe see it again sometime. And I still watch the show very occasionally from time-to-time on GSN.

Agent0042: If you could go on any game show, what would it be?
Agent0042: Probably GSN's Lingo. I'm like an ace at playing that game along at home and I have no doubt if I found a good partner, I could absolutely clean up. Barring that --- Wheel of Fortune.

Agent0042: If you could port any other game show concept to FFShrine, what would it be?
Agent0042: It would be thrilling to do that new NBC show --- 1 vs. 100, although I have no idea how it could possibly be implemented.

Agent0042: What's your favorite Final Fantasy game?
Agent0042: I like to say it varies based on my mood. The default answer is Final Fantasy IX. However, I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy X-2, V and VI. For overall playing hours, I've probably logged the most on X and X-2, because they each have so much to explore and sidequests especially in X-2. I'm also a devout Kingdom Hearts fanatic.

We now resume our game. For 200 gil, a visual clue...

Magester, if you wanna post an ad on the next break, go ahead, sure.

Okay, let's continue now. We're playing for 2000 gil. You still have all your lifelines and it won't be all that long before you reach the point where the fantastic new lifelines start kicking in. So, for 2000 gil...

Which of the following is not an actual weapon in the game? Is it:

A.) Multina Racket
B.) Dragoon Lance
C.) Asura's Rod
D.) Obelisk

xivoz
10-25-2006, 03:59 PM
that would be
B.) Dragoon Lance

Heh, actually, I pulleed it out of a list of Cid's weapons from FFVII, but the answer is still correct. You're playing for 4000 gil now and here comes the next question...

Which of the following is not one of the mini-figurines? Is it:

A.) Mini-Cid
B.) Mini-Burmecia
C.) Mini-Hilda Garde
D.) Mini-Prima Vista

Magester

Sweet, cheers Agent0042. Hang in there Xivoz!

xivoz

Agent0042

Mini-Hilda Garde isn't one of those figurines.

Well, you're doing great. You're going for 8000 gil now. Let's see the question...

When you have to select the pairings of Pluto Knights in Disc 3 in Alexandria, which of the following is one of the available pairings? Is it:

A.) Dojebon & Breireicht
B.) Dojebon & Mullenkedheim
C.) Dojebon & Kohel
D.) Breireicht & Blutzen

xivoz

Well, you've just reached the 8000 gil level, which means you now have access to one of the nifty new lifelines --- Ask Google/GameFAQs/FFShrine Main Site/etc. Basically, if you want to use this, just go ahead and use it and consult one, but only one script, guide or FAQ, so make your choice carefully. And then just let me know when answering that you used it.

So, playing for 16000 gil now...

Who is the only character that speaks in the Active Time Event "Friendship?" Is it:

Sweet Commercial Time! Now, you gotta use some imagination with this one:

(Zidane is walking away from a rollercoaster in a packed theme park. He looks sad. The man at the entrance of the rollercoaster is shaking his head - he stands next to a height meter, usually found at the entrance of intense rides to stop small children from entering)

Zidane: “They won’t let me onto many of the rollercoasters because of this…"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Garnet is surrounded by real people, all of whom are quite a lot taller than her. She is on an underground train. Only the bottom half of the real people can be seen in the photo)

Garnet: “People constantly look down upon me…”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Vivi is being picked on by some children. They are kicking puddle water at him. The children are about the same height as Vivi)

Vivi: “Everyone believes I’m just a kid. I’m 43!"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Remember Children: Steroids can stunt your growth.

Cheers for the support, Corroded Soul! If anyone felt last ad was a bit tasteless, then I've got another one:

Kuja: You know, covering the whole of Gaia in mist is pretty hard work, even for an evil genius like me. But when I need to kick back and relax (usually after casting Ultima or trancing etc.), I like to play Kingdom Hearts II (rated 12+)! Join Sora, Donald and Goofy as they continue their journey to defeat the evil Heartless (personally, I hope they fail). Out now in a computer games store near you!

Agent0042
10-26-2006, 10:05 PM
All right, let's go on now. You're really doing very well, xivoz. You're playing for 32,000 gil and you still have all your lifelines, plus you've just gained access to Double Dip. So let's have a look at the next question. If you get this right, you can't leave with less than 32,000 gil...

Which of the following is not a track from the Original Soundtrack Plus?

Is it:

A.) Summoning to Destroy Cleyra
B.) Journey to Another World
C.) A New Queen is Born
D.) The Fall of Neo-Kuja

CorroDedSouL
10-27-2006, 12:37 AM
Nice ones, Magester. I thought the first one was really funny. It didnt take any imagination at all for me! The 2nd one i didnt get at first, until it got to Kujas personal thoughts at the end. Then it was funny.

P.S. Good luck, xivoz!

xivoz
10-27-2006, 10:03 AM
hmm unless this is a trick question the obvious choice is
D.) The Fall of Neo-Kuja
as neo-kuja does not exixst.

Agent0042
10-27-2006, 01:16 PM
<font color="red">Wrong</font>

Oh man, xivoz, I didn't expect that. If you weren't sure, you probably shoulda used a lifeline. It's not a trick question, but the Soundtrack Plus has a lot of funnily-named tracks and The Fall of Neo-Kuja is one of them. I guess you could call Kuja's second form "Neo-Kuja." The correct answer was B.) Journey to Another World. Many of the tracks on the Soundtrack Plus are based on FMVs, but that particular one wasn't one of them. You leave with 1,000 gil.

Wow, I hate when that happens, but unfortunately, that's how it goes sometimes. We continue on, with our next Fastest Finger question...

This character "called me a liar and a loudmouth and a brat!!!" Just who was it who called Eiko that? Was it:

A.) Amarant Coral
B.) Captain Adelbert Steiner
C.) Freya Crescent
D.) Baku

ROKI
10-29-2006, 07:18 PM
I remember the moment, and if im right i remrmber Amarant saying afterwards "He is right", so he was not the one. Baku was really friendly with Eiko, he even accepted to deliver her letter to Zidane. Steiner was the one who called her that, yeah. Well, you're playing for 8000 gil now. If you get this one right, you'll have access to one of the new lifelines. So here's your question, for 8000 gil...

When you play the music box in the Black Mage Village, you get a tune from a previous Final Fantasy game. This tune is known as:

B.) Nostalgia
C.) Lute of Noah

Agent0042

Certainly! Let's open the Ask the Audience on this one. Audience, on your keyboards, please lock in A., B., C., or D. Please lock in only one of those for answer choices --- I am asking that you include nothing else with your post. And please don't consult any sources other than your own existing knowledge (though I know I can't enforce that.)

Edit: For the future --- could people please wait to lock in their votes until I've officially "opened" the lifeline. Thanks.

ROKI --- when answering, you'll want to consider both overall number of votes for a choice, as well as the experience of the poster, time spent on the Shrine, etc. Ask the Audience is open for no more than 24 hours or lock in your final answer whenever you feel confident on a choice based on the response so far.

Since I've heard it, I know for certain that its D, Doga and Une (one of the songs on the soundtrack is named this as well as, i think, two items, both with the word's Doga and Une on them - one is a mirror. You need one or both of the items to play the theme).

Thanks, Magester, for not following my instructions like at all. But your post was after the answer had already came in, so ah well. Anyway, yes. In order to play it, you need to have the Key Items Doga's Artifact and Une's Mirror. Doga and Une were two powerful black mages in Final Fantasy III, so this was a clever tribute to them. Their tune, "Pavilion of Doga and Une" is available on the FFIII soundtrack and "Doga and Une" is available on the FFIX Soundtrack Plus.

Well, you've reached the 8000 gil level, ROKI, which means you now have access to the lifeline Ask Google/GameFAQs/FFShrine Main Site/etc. You may use any one of these resources to help you, but I am asking that you consult one, and only one document, so please be certain before making your choice. If you use this lifeline, just go ahead and use and then tell me that you used it.

B. was the right answer, the others I just made up to sound like plausible key item descriptions. You've reached the 64000 gil level, which means you now have access to Ask the Experts. The panel is still FF1WithAllThieves, Joey and Xander, although after this one (if you use the lifeline), I might rotate in some different people. So if anyone else wants to be on the panel, let me know.

So, for 125000 gil...

Agent0042
11-03-2006, 04:14 AM
ROKI, all three of our experts have chosen C.) Doctor Tot.

FF1WithAllThieves says that the overall amused tone fits the nature of his character. Joey comments that it was betweeen either Beatrix or Tot for him, but after further thinking, he says it sounds like the line would be said during traveling, and he recalls traveling with Doctor Tot going from Alexandria to Treno. And finally, Xander says he played through recently and recalls it being Doctor Tot. He also uses a process of elimination and comments that Doctor Tot is "old-fashioned," so he would speak like that.

ROKI
11-03-2006, 05:37 AM

Nope, sorry, but that isn't it, Enya. You'll have to wait till the next Fastest Finger.

<font color="red">Correct</font>

Electric Shock definitely isn't one of the Dynes. Well, you're playing for 1000 gil now and if you get this, you can't leave with less than that. So let's see the question...

Hmm --- it's another visual clue. Let's take a look...

What FMV is this picture from? Is that from:

A.) Black Waltz and the Airship
B.) Entering Memoria
C.) Entering Lindblum
D.) Airship Takes Off From Dali

Oh, and it looks like we're back on track now in this thread, as far as posting order.

I have actually been a bit stumped on this one. But im gonna go with my initial feelings on this one and say C: Entering Lindblum

Ouch.. Abit too late.
I wanna answer C too.

Cloud87, you do know the rules right? You can't post answers to questions unless you're in the hotseat. When Xander's game ends you can enter by answering a fastest finger question.

Oh! I'm sorry.
I'm new here.

Cloud87 --- being new isn't an excuse for not reading through the thread carefully. Especially when you're looking at a thread for a game like this and understanding the rules properly could be absolutely critical to the proper functioning of the game. Anyways...

<font color="red">Correct</font>

This image is indeed from the Entering Lindblum FMV. Well, congratulations, Xander. You've reached the 1,000 gil level, which means you can't leave with less than that. You're playing now for 2,000 gil and you're just ten questions away from a cool 1,000,000 gil. You still have all three original lifelines and it won't be all that long now until some of the new lifelines start kickng in. So, for 2000 gil...

Which of the following is not an ATE (Active Time Event) in this game? Is it:

A.) Clowns on a Dark Night
B.) Dagger Tries Harder
C.) Don't Hate Me
D.) Quina's Confusion

I think I know what the answer is. But I wanna be safe and say Ask the Audience please. Just to make sure. I know im on a low amount but oh well.

Agent0042

Okay, certainly. Ask the Audience is now open. Audience, using your keyboards, please lock in either A, B, C or D. Please lock in only A, B, C or D and do not provide any explanation or anything with your post. Do so and you will be disqualified from competing in the future. People need to follow the rules on this. And though I know I can't enforce it, I'm asking that you not consult any sources other than your own knowledge.

Xander, Ask the Audience will be open for 24 hours. You may answer at any time during that period if you're happy with the response so far. You should also consider the time that the people voting have been on the Shrine and your perception of their knowledge of the game.

Those who have recently asked me to be on the Expert's Panel, please do not answer. Those who were on the previous Expert's Panel up until now, thank you for serving on the Panel. You are now released for the time being, although you're welcome to possibly be on it again sometime in the future.

Alright Joey and Enya know their stuff and I thought the same. Just wanted to be certain.

So yeah my answer is A:Clowns on a dark night

Agent0042

<font color="red">Wrong</font>

Oh, man, that's really a shame. But it just goes to show that even the audience can get it wrong sometimes. The correct answer was D.) Quina's Confusion, which at least a couple of audience members suggested.

Clowns on a Dark Night involves Zorn and Thorn. It plays on Disc 3 --- Zorn: "No one is here!" Thorn: "Is no one here, really?" Zorn: "Yes!" Thorn: "Sure, you are about that?" Zorn: "That is enough!" Thorn: "Now, we do what?" Zorn : "We are going to ask Princess Garnet if we can return to the castle."

I believe this ATE may have been the inspiration for the title of the soundtrack piece Jesters of the Moonless Sky.

Dagger Tries Harder plays when Dagger is trying to learn about country ways of speaking and Don't Hate Me plays in Cleyra and involves Vivi.

Quina's Confusion I just made up, sorry.

Well, Xander, you leave with 1000 gil and my thanks.

Now, for those that would like to join in the game, it's time for our next Fastest Finger question. It's another about the captions that appear on the opening pictures for the characters on the demo sequence. Place these characters in alphabetical order by the first letter of their caption, starting with the earliest:

A.) Zidane
B.) Steiner
C.) Freya
D.) Vivi
