Hey I played FFIX through a couple times now and idk why but I've always had Zidane (well he's a given,) Vivi, Steiner, and Garnet in my party. Since I haven't really trained the other 4 to get good or anything, I was wondering if you guys think that my party (Zidane, Vivi, Steiner, and Garnet) is the best or if I should try using some of the other people this time through.

Every party configuration can be equally effective -- it all depends on how you train your characters. Keep in mind that certain pieces of equipment actually give you attribute bonuses on level up, so this is what I mean by "training." You need to fit each character with the right set of equipment in order to build their attributes to your liking. Also, try to hold off on leveling until you do find all of this equipment in the first place. It's possible to advance pretty far in the game without gaining a single level, actually. (I've even seen some people beat the game with level 1 parties)

Yeah I liked Garnet for her summons (which actually are pretty useless in the end...=P) but Eiko does have Full-Life and Holy

i just enjoyed the story and beat the final boss with attacks.

although it is fun to try and learn as many abilities as soon as you can.

Garnet has a very valuble function at the end of the game, actually. If you have all your characters with auto-regen and she has boost, you can summon Ark and waste a shitload of time, causing everyone to regain full health.

Wholesome Gara-goodness advice.

With Accuracy+ and Healer, Amarant's a better healer than Garnet or Eiko. One thing I really dig about FFIX is that it allows you to be creative with your party setup.

True but he does not have as much MP and does not have summons.

Eiko has the best White Magic but Garnet has the best Summons and better statistics, more HP etc. I'd say both are as effective as each other when used correctly.

I also always had Freya in my party, as she had some excellent special attacks and her Jump was highly useful too.

All I can say is,

Use Freya.

Try experimenting with different teams; I never settle for one specific team until the beginning of disc four. Sure, you could go for the selected team, but it's so much more fun if you experiment with the characters! Wait! You know what I mean.

I almost always use Zidane, Steiner, Eiko, Amarant. idk why. You got a stealer, 2 power hitters and a healer. The only downside is the parts where you cant use those characters. (That ive found)

I always use Vivi, Zidane, Quina and Steiner. With auto-regen, auto-potion and 30 peridonts you have no problem to face any boss ;)

I use Zidane, Steiner, Vivi and Garnet all the time. I know it sounds shallow but, one of the reasons why I always use this party is because they look good together.

At the time in which you get Eiko, Garnet is a more polished white mage, but Eiko is the overall better character, as she has a lot more potential if you spend the time getting all of her abilities.

So if you really want the absolute best:

Zidane
Steiner
vivi
Eiko

Vivi really isn't good unless you are gonna roll w/ Auto Reflect + Reflect x2 and then cast flare on yourself (9999 every time), the problem is than you can't heal your whole group at once, so you might as well ditch Eiko and roll w/ Amarant for healing purposes. He has Revive + Charka and his attack is far better than Eikos. You don't really need a pure healer as long as you play w/ Auto Potion + Auto Regen.

Also, if you are not playing w/ Vivi, Freya is better than Steiner. Jump is incredibly useful to prevent yourself from being hit.

Actually, by the time you reach the stage where you have those three abilities mastered, 9999 damage is not a hard feat to obtain.

For Quina, it is actually pretty simple: catch frogs and dish out 9999 in damage! Given that you've obtained the "Frog Drop" ability that is.

Agreed. It's Level * frogs, so the more you catch, the earlier you can get to 9999. Since level maxes at 99, minimum number of frogs you would to catch and do 9999 damage would be 100, practically, you'll probably wanna catch more than that. (Really not all that rough if you catch regularly and smartly and don't mess with the golden frog.)

I never really used Quina that much and I didn't have enough patience catching all those frogs. I guess I'll give it a shot when I replay this game.

hmm.. i only use Quina for lvling purposes. I just use Quina against those grand dragons with her lvl5 death skill, she pwns those grand dragons.. haha

u need freya man jump is so help full(along with reis wind). zidang in memoria for steal, amerant is help full but can't hit 9999 every strike (same with eiko)
quina is fun bit vivi and steiner have a better conbo
