Would be cool if you could use Marcus, Blank, Cinna, Beatrix later in the game when Blank's de-petrified, Beatrix no longer working for Brahne etc.

Marcus was probably my favourite of those characters, but I never got him as high as Lv.61 (he's something like 25 on my save file). Not necessarily for his fighting abilities just liked him as a character.

Beatrix was awesome in battle though :)

Oh yeah and Cinna should be added to the list, he is playable if only very briefly ;-)

I never got the hammer so can't help you sorry. Cinna only sucks because he is (presumably) Level 1 when you play as him, if you levelled him up a bit he would probably be similar to Quina at medium levels. His hammer does random damage, which could be potentially very potent (or not at all).

Supposing he was a fully playable character, and he could get improved weapons and armour, he might actually have been pretty good in a scrap. We'll never know though.

cinna u don't get to walk around while u use and u never get to equip him so i don't count him at all

I think it would be awesome to play as Baku XD.
But yeah, Marcus is great. I thought he added well to the storyline at the beginning of Disc 2, when Steiner and Dagger are trying to get back to Alexandria and they encounter the Black Waltz III for the 2nd time. I was actually sad to see him go after awhile. At least you got to use him quite a bit.

I seriously doubt this is why he/she is levelling up Marcus so high, but there is a benefit to doing that. Marcus' stat bonuses pass on to Eiko when she joins your team; so it helps to give Marcus some good equipment while he's on your team and also to level him up a little. (ie. if you boost up Macus' strength stat, Eiko's strength and HP will be higher when she joins your team, and the like.)

Anyway, my favorite NPC would be Regent Cid or Beatrix. :P

If you can get her to join at level 1, and have levelled Marcus up with the right equipment, then by the time she's as level 99, you can actually get her magic and strength stat up to 99.
