Ok, everyone that i talk to hates FF IX, but what is wrong with it. I think it has a good story line but the character's size was a little small. The characters them selves were great but just a little bigger. The OST is one of my favorites. Hades was a blow off, Ozma was a challange, dam "Curse". Nectron was ok, well he is easy. but the card game can get a little confusing. Magic has stayed the same, but side quests were a little funner in this game. Remember i have only played VIII and IX. But i am open to critic's opinions and comments.

Hmm try playing VII, then come back...

But FFIX Wasn't COMPLETELY lame, just a bit... Looked kinda lame, like you said, and the storyline didn't thrill me to be honest...
No character Bios whatsoever except for Zidane which is completely integrated in the stroyline. As for foes, they were all lame and looked shitty, except for Ozma which was hard but looked like a bullock.

Ozma could have been better, see i don't really want to fight a spinning ball...

The Lost One

that's what I mean. It should be hanging from a dead bulls dick, not in the air throwing curses at you... That's just not something balls do.

Good good... and i think the best part of the game was memoria... even though i was at high level, when i got there the first time, but you can mess around in there so much, but it was a good ending for the game. in ffviii there was just ultimicias spell circles keeping you out of the towns, all that you could do is just fight in the castle or in the world, nothing else. In ff ix yes there were the roots that blocked the towns but, you could still get into some.

FF IX is a game that you cannot even compare to ff vii and ff viii. FF IX has a great storyline, a great and well balanced battle system, interesting and original characters, excelent music, great humor, fun and interesting mini-games (chocobo cold and hot is a great example, although the cards game is almost useless to the story annd u get nothing from it). Side quests were interesting and well made. One of the greatest RPGs for ps1.

The same reason the Squaresoft fans shun Vagrant Story, it's quite challenging compared to the other games.

In this case...FF9 is more of a challenge compared to FF7 and FF8, due to the lack of the horrendously broken materia and junctioning system, not to mention the fact that they can't save up a trance (like they would save a limit break on FF7 and 8) for a boss battle makes it a turn off for them.

Not to mention that the theme of FF9 is a far cry from the sheer angst dripping from the storylines of FF7 and 8. The protagonist isn't the emo wangstkid with penis envy like they're used to in FF7/8, he's more of an arrogant, womanizing jerk.

And the biggest reason of them all. Most people, especially those who vehemently hail FF7/8 over the other FF games don't know quality games if it crawled up their asses and brought them to orgasm through prostate stimulation.

I love FFIX!

Isn't it supposed to be a tribute to the Final Fantasy series...? >>
It has FFVII's "Rufus's Welcoming Ceremony" song, people who dress like FF1's job-people, and all that stuff!
I think the character development is wonderful, too...=]

Though...I didn't get the game for a loooong time, since I thought it looked kind of kid-ish and stuff....
My dad just brought it home one day since it was on sale....
I didn't think much of it, and it just sat on the shelf for a while....
But then one day, I was really bored, and then I just saw it sitting there....I just thought "why not give it a try..."
And I loved it!! XP I should have played it sooner!

The game is full of humor, and even pokes fun at itself...XD
The game is also very deep and philosophical, too...it asks many questions about the nature of life and existence, especially near the end....

If you haven't played FFIX, you've missed out! FFIX brings back what was left out in FFVII and VIII -- the fun, fantasy side of FF, rather than a modern-technological and serious setting...=]

I think there should be an Anti-fanboy test before acess to this site is granted!
Now FFIX was by no means my Favourite FF but... the reasons you have so kindly provided are shitty even by the lowest standards.

Hmm. Well FF9 wasn't that bad...
I didn't like the battle system but the story line wasn't bad and Zidane made me laugh alot.
Some people might not like it the best because it is so much different than the other FF's.
Where did you find that not everyone doesn't like it?

Lol... anti fanboy test.

Correction: It is different than the PREVIOUS TWO Final Fantasy games.

FF9 sure seems much more like the other FF games than FF7 and FF8 ever were.

he's more of an arrogant, womanizing jerk.
Arrogant and jerk are two words I'd hardly use in describing Zidane...

Jerk is what I'd call Squall. Arrogant is what I'd call Cloud. Womanizing... well, you got one out of three, I'll give you that. XD

FF VII and VIII are the 2 ffs that in fact look so different that the others. IX is the best example for a 3D ff that looks like the original ones (first six ones):)

It was a good game. People probly did not want to go back to childish final fantasys due to the more adult VII and VIII.

If you think FFIX was childish and FFVII wasn't, you're a moron.

I dont but other people I have talked to have said that VII was more adult because well they never told me. No joke.

Some of my friends complain that the music is too "circusy." Hello that is why we have the mute button on the remote, there is no excuse to not put it in mute if you think that. You are hardly going to miss something that one of the characters say because guess what? They don't have voiceovers!!

Though I like nearly everything about the game the battle system, ability system etc.

There is nothing at all wrong with FFIX, it is arguably the best game in the series, perhaps only FFVI surpasses it in terms of quality.

I find it quite hard to find anything wrong with ff9.

Maybe the battles are a little slow, and most of the references are lost on non japanese players.
oh and the card game was not as good as ff8's (in my opinion)

I can't really think of much else.

Also final fantasy 9 looked much better than 7 and 8. I really can't see how people think there is something wrong with the characters in 9.
In fact they are awesome and Zidane is my favourite protagonist in final fantasy.
