I'll probably pick it up eventually, but I'm most certainly not in any rush, nor am I excited by their new release by any means. MCR's not bad, as there are worse bands in the genre *cough* Good Charlotte *cough* Simple Plan *cough*.

Anyone who knows me knows that in my mind, hating emo for it simply being in the emo category is retarded. Disliking certain music shouldn't be based on a stereotype, but, to each their own. But when ppl like Razorbunny here say something such as this:

ugh

It's really quite irritating. I like a LOT of emo music, but, I think most people can tell I'm very far from depressed, and I don't take razorblades to my skin. Dislike the music, that's fine with me. I disliked it a first too (since I actually am a metalhead first and foremost), but, I like a lot of it now.

MCR classifies themselves as 'Emo.' Now I dislike the emo music scene. Probably because it is just a bunch of over-used power chords and high pitched singing.
But when someone says, "Hey, I am an emo." I want to punch them in their throat. You see, I live in Arizona, and in case you did not know it is the Emo Music Scene Capital of the United States of America.
That means, I have to watch a bunch of bitches running around flipping their hair in the eyes and taking MySpace pictures half-nude in their bathroom mirrors.

So let me clarify:

Emo is not a dress style or race of person, it is a music genre.

Back to MCR, their music was never good but a lot of young angsty teens could relate to the over dramatized states of depression.
That is the only way they could've gotten popular. Soon, they will decay like the other Emo/Screamo bands that have fallen before them.
Because now the cool thing is the 'Hardcore' music genre. Which closely resembles the old 70's punk style but is added by low growling sounds by the vocalist.
This type of music opens up mosh pits where the world's youth can hit kids with their elbows and build up their egos.

It's all bullshit in my opinion.

Also, back on my rant.

I like some Indie music. Which is like slowed down and really light on the ears. It is nice when you are tired or just feel like crap.
But everyone mistakes it for emo music, and it is not.
So fyi, Indie and Emo.
There is a difference.

Mailbox
11-22-2006, 05:40 AM
But did you learn how to make 1000 of them?
No ;_;; But I actually had a 50 question Chemistry exam today that I completed in 2 minutes and handed it. Multiple choice has it's benefits, especially when your teacher is a half-wit wench and you don't learn anything. But anyway, I sat and made a crane farm.

Also, I listen to a bunch of stuff, more so of the stuff that isn't in English. Jpop, Jrock, OSTs, so on and so forth. Though I do have quite a library of multiple kinds of music.

You see, I live in Arizona, and in case you did not know it is the Emo Music Scene Capital of the United States of America. I was always under the impression (and I am pretty sure I am right) that emo was mostly spawned in the midwest and retains it's highest amounts of popularity there. Mostly like Ohio, parts of Missouri, Illinois, Michigan, and to a lesser extent Minnesota and Wisconsin. This might also include Iowa if they make music in Iowa which I am not sure they do. Iowa is possibly the most boring state in the union.

Also, emo is barely a music genre really, it goes pretty much undefined musically. It originally was an off shoot of punk and hardcore music and maintains the simplistic style for the most part but when most people label a band as emo it is because of the lyrics or even more often because of how the band dresses. It is kind of just a pop culture meme right now that is being marketed to hell and very successfully. I don't really know where I am going with any of this I am just kind of rambling on about a million different things and if you are still reading I guess you are pretty cool by me. There is nothing of substance to be derived here.

so yeah.

Joey

Hogan I can agree with you on most of that. But I know that Arizona is big on emo because in about half a year, there were about 8 or 9 bands that started here and went to my school, and ares of Glendale/Peoria Arizona. (Where I live)

Now, they are huge selling records, touring in the UK and scheduled to appear on MTV in the near future.

I have to say that the people who are against 'emo' are a fucking trend itself. At least that's how I see it. It'd like somebody says "MCR are total fucking shit man, I fucking hate emo," and then other people jump on the bandwagon, and I bet half the people have barely heard a damn song by any of them. That is what irritates me. Give it a listen, if you hate it, then at least you gave a couple of songs a listen. But I HATE it when people say a band is emo, and automatically come the clowns with there 'EMO FUCKING SUCKS, BLAH BLAH BLAH". And, yes, the 'fans' do take it too seriously a lot of times with their stupid makeup and crap, but, whatever. But it's the people who buy into the budding stereotypes that give it the bad name anyways.

And this is coming from a metalhead of sorts. Have a goddamned open fucking mind people.

But thanks to MySpace and Purevolume, I have had a listen to the debut songs off the new album and I do not like it at all.

But you must realize that any kid is going to do what is cool. So if his friend says MCR sucks then any idiot will think that.

Anyone else find this absolutely hillarious? Because you live in Arizona you have to watch a bunch of bitches take half-nude pictures in their bathroom mirrors? Yeah I know that's not what you meant but you have to admit that sounds damn funny.

Far as MCR is concerned I'm not a fan, if they come on the radio I'm lucky to get through the song without switching stations. But hey that's just my taste and if someone actually does like MCR then the more power to them.

Also I find this entire emo/anti-emo scene to be pretty damn funny in itself, especially since so far I haven't run into many people who can even agree on what the deffinition of emo is. Bet if The Rolling Stones came out today as a new band and their first single was "Paint it Black" there'd be that emo/anti-emo division of people that absolutely love/hate The Rolling Stones just based on the emo label.

While I'm not particularly for labelling bands, if MCR classify themselves as Emo, then that is what they are.

I have listened to one or two songs from this album, and have heard much about it.

Here is one thing that annoyed me:

"Welcome to the Black Parade is awesome, you know Lewis. It's a concept album, did you know that?

As if no-one has done concept albums before. I could even say it's becoming more and more commercial to produce concept albums anyway.

Either way, the songs I have heard are abysmal. There is absolutely nothing about them.

A point I have to make, is that I hate Radiohead, with a passion, but I appreciate that they have done something to the Rock genre, they have expanded and influenced other bands. My Chemical Romance are doing nothing but regurgitating ideas from other people, and currently leading a pathetic genre of music which sends the message to fans that life is shit.

Pretty much why I hold no specific regard for MCR. It's one thing to find the music to be alright, it's another to be delusional enough to think they are something ground-breaking.
