I looked into it and it looks pretty bad ass. I might buy Guitar Hero 2 when it comes out in a few months.

Agree? Disagree?

I played GH for about a week. For an actual bassist/guitarist, it got old rather fast. However, I did like the majority of the songs. I haven't read anything about GH2, but giving the first one's popularity, I'm sure there'll be more songs, by more recent (and currently popular) artists. Personally, I'd rather plug in my Strat and go for broke instead of pushing five buttons and thwacking a 'strum bar.' But that's just me.

some people dont have the time or the determination to spend years learning real guitar. its a gr8 game btw

Seeing the "guitar shredder" above Joey's av, I made the assumption that he does, indeed, play guitar. At any rate, picking up a guitar and learning to play (which isn't that difficult with the plethora of books and 'net helps out there) doesn't take ZOMG YEARS. Doing so is also far more rewarding than playing a game that merely imitates playing guitar. It sounds like I'm bashing GH, but I'm not trying to entirely. It's a blast with friends.

Yeah. I figured that it doesn't match up to the real thing. I've been playing guitar for quite a long time and have grown rather good. I heard GH2 is going to have 60+ songs. The whole idea looks a little cheap, but I enjoy DDR and GH looks like a better game than DDR to me.
So I was curious if GH2 is really worth the 80 (US) dollars.

What the shit, you are just checking out Guitar Hero? Where have you been this past year, when it sold around a million copies? Of course it is awesome, of course it is worth $80. You only pay that much at Gamestop and EB. I bought GH for $60 at Circuit City, it's only that the other two companies know how awesome it is.

CyanCyde, wtf. Maybe if you were playing with an entire band to a large crowd, then yes, playing an actual guitar would be better. I play irl too, and it's not the same.

Joey

Well I always knew about it, but just the idea of it sounded like a cheaply made arcade game.
But then a lot of kids I know bought it and have mixed feelings.
So yes I am just now looking into it.

WTF yourself, Tekno. Then read the post. It was pretty clear that learning to actually play guitar is more rewarding than learning to push five buttons and thwack a strumbar. At any rate, actually playing in a band (crowd or no) is far more rewarding than GH simply for the interaction with your bandmates. Unless you've got some non-musical friends over, and then you can all play GH--great fun then.

The co-op is what sparked my interest.

i would say to play a good number of the songs in the game it would in fact take ZOMG YEARS unless you practice all day every day or sth. but then again i can't play guitar so i dont really know. i just like to make baseless claims.

Having looked over a Smoke on the Water tab, I'd say I could learn it in about an hour. The main riff that everybody recognizes takes about three seconds to get down. Granted, I haven't even seen my guitar, let alone touched it, in about two months, but still.

yes and smoke on the water is close to the easiest song in the game.

yes i thought about how best to insult you for four days straight.

i was seriously trying to hurt your feelings/make you kill yourself.

LoL. No worries, Joey. If somebody wants to start a flame-fight with me, they'll have to do better than trick matches. Since we're in a GH thread, I saw a headline about GH possibly going multi-platform. Since I was pressed for time, I didn't get to read it--know anything?

Because I only know of the PS2 one.

I can't get into it, as a guitarist the gameplay feels totally illogical and thus really difficult to grab hold of, and then I'm just afraid of looking insanely goofy while playing it.

I don't know, I'm just a negative nancy about it eh.

Thank you! I somehow feel validated now. I'd much rather have my Strat strapped on instead of that SG-looking, crap-feeling...yeah.

Because I think we can all agree picking up a guitar and busting out some sweeps, arpeggios, and pedal tones is much more impressive (especially to the ladies)

I like Guitar Hero. I was introduced to it by Best Buy, when they had a big TV out with two guitars and 2 nice gaming chairs out so my friends and I just played against each other for who knows how long. It was addicting enough that eventually 2 people in our group got it ^^ I can only play on beginner more, having to press more that 3 buttons seems a little challenging for my fingers(it's like ddr dylexia but for my fingers)

I always saw it to be mildly boring myself. now...if they come up with a game called "Drum Hero" complete with a double-bass pedal. I'd be interested. :P
