You seem to like Metal Gear, so I assume you may like video games in general, many of which have great soundtracks, so listen to some of da GAME MUSICS

well, then.

pop music! you can't go wrong with a bit of robbie williams, i recommend escapology or the greatest hits. moving into the less well-known, belle & sebastian make some of the most consistantly great pop music around. anything by them's worth picking up, but "storytelling" is a film soundtrack (and thus not really a good starting point) and "fold your hands child, you walk like a peasant" is generally considered their weakest. the flaming lips are brilliant; you should be able to pick up a copy of "soft bulletin" or "yoshimi battles the pink robots" quite cheaply these days, get both. verging onto the real hard-to-find stuff, "paris 1919" by john cale is brilliant, orchestrated and often beautiful stuff. it's been re-released recently in the uk, not too sure about the us but it should turn up on amazon.

if you're looking for more rock music, i recommend bloc party without reservation. "silent alarm" is a great album. the smiths are another fantastic band, and pretty much any album by them's worth it. "the very best of the smiths" might be available and will probably be cheap; that's a decent collection. the velvet underground are a little edgy, a little experimental, but very fantastic - the banana album ("the velvet underground and nico") being the one most talked about, but any one is worth a purchase.

uh. i dunno how much of these you'll like and i suggest downloading some stuff first, or even using www.last.fm to get 30-second track previews before splashing the cash, but those are a few bands that i think are pretty safe in terms of people liking them.

Try these (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Death_metal_bands) on for size. Also check out System of a Down, Godsmack, Disturbed, Korn, Slayer, Rammstein, Fear Factory, and Pantera. There's bound to be something there you like.

I'm listening to poser-punk emo music.
Don't listen to it.

Try listening to blues, it's rather good.

I know nothing, and the fact I like Robbie Williams nullifies what is otherwise a truly excellent musical taste.

I second that statement. I strongly recommend visiting http://www.hiromimusic.com/. She's an absolutely amazing jazz pianist, and there are 2 EP's for download right on the site.
