Hey,

A friend of mine just gave me his copy of FF VIII for PC, and I fall in love.

I'd like to buy the next installments of the game, but for what I have seen so far, most of them are PS only.

few questions then:

1. what are the sequent PC versions to VIII?
2. is there a way to emulate PS/2 on my pc and still get a decent gameplay on ff ix/x/etc.?
3. I've read the one of the games is online - is there an option to play it offline, as viii is?

Many thanks,

Jcucmhe

Hey,
1. what are the sequent PC versions to VIII?

None on PC par FF11, online.

2. is there a way to emulate PS/2 on my pc and still get a decent gameplay on ff ix/x/etc.?
Depends on the quality of your computer, however, imo, you're better off emulating some of the older ones. FFVI and FFIV are really good, but I'll still go one further and suggest you buy a PSX, if not a PS2, just for 9, if your computer can't run it.

3. I've read the one of the games is online - is there an option to play it offline, as viii is?
No.

Also; wrong forum.

Many thanks,

Many 10x for the fast answer. However, I'd be indebted if you could elaborate on the somewhat vague term of "depends on the quality of your computer". Do you have any exprience with it?
The thing is that I can't really afford myself a PS :(

10x again.

Final Fantasy VII was also released on PC. You could play all of them on your PC via emulation, and yeah, wrong forum.

Basically I highly doubt you'll be able to run PS2 (FFX, FFX-2, FFXII) but the PSX ones should be no trouble. Emulation is your answer.

Well, It is rather obvious that this is the wrong forum - which is the right one?

While on the matter, can you recommend me a decent emu?

Why do you think that a rather new computer won't be able to emulate ps2?

I need to know, please, if you are speaking from exprience, before I'd go and buy the game.

Cheers

Firstly, emulated games tend to be free, so no trouble with having to buy the game. Secondly to emulate something, a computer must be at least 10 times as powerful (rough figure.) You could try PS2, I'm not sure about modern computers: Ps2 specs. As for emulators, it really doesn't matter. If I was at my Mum's I'd email you an emu pack, with all FF's up to 6, Chrono Trigger, FF adventure etc, and needed emulators, but I'm not. Just google it. They all work. I've never needed to emulate PSX, so no idea with that.

To emulate a PSX you'll need an emulator I suggest ePSXe as that works with the most games, but you'll have to install the PSX BIOS and video drivers yourself. Also, to use it you'll need the actual game disc or have downloaded and burnt the games' ISO onto a CD so that it can read from it. As the PSX uses a CD format and not cartridge, emulating is pretty difficult for it.

Use ePSXe 1.5 for emulating ff games as 1.6 make them stop on FMVs.

You can gett ISO's of FF7, 8 and 9 at www.emuparadise.org but i have to tell u that is illegal to download them without owning the original ones.

ePSXe is able to run copy cds too.

Ps2 cannot be emulated. The emulators are still in development to play the games. For ex FFX gets into the game but mostly crashes so it isnt fully playable, same will go for xii.

XI is only for internet. FF7 was on PC too but in order to play it on XP u need to install a small patch.

You can emulate the older ffs (1-6) which are in rom format and can be foud on the internet. They are easy to emulate. Even if they are in 2D there are excelent games (4,5,6 are great). You can also emulate 4 on a gameboy advance emulation but u need to find a rom of the gameboy advance version of ff4 and its harder to be found.

Hope this information will help you

My pc can run most heavy games (doom3, hl2) quite comfortably.
However running the ps2 emulator i tried goes at about 6 frames per second and about 30% speed.
So you would need a hefty pc to make it playable.

long story short it's not worth the bother.

psone emulation is a lot more feasable. Epsxe is quite good. It's a bit of trouble to get running properly and ive never gotten it as good as on my real psone (but it's fun with a rediculously high resolution :))

Snes emulation is extremely close to the real thing with zsnes

nes emulation is almost perfect too.

you can get final fantasy 7, 8 and 11 for the pc. But 11 is online only and you need to pay monthly after a months free trial.

I play ff ix on my pc (i own a ps1 but its so old an my cds doesnt work good on fmvs so i downloaded it), so i think you can d it too. If you have probles with ePSXe sed me a private messege. On some computers you may get double speed. If this happen to u, use another emulation, the PSXeven v0.19. Its a pretty good one too

ok i seriously need help here, i've tried a bunch of things (codecs, checking drivers, changing config) but for some reason when i play ff7 on my pc it constantly crashes at the point where tifa and cloud are the only ones on the highwind and run towards the cockpit.

if anyone knows of any patches or .exe files that might fix this PLEASE let me know cause i've tried a number of patches and so far nothing has worked

crzy...

I'm not sure if it'd help you, but Roki here really helped me with the getting the game started, and the best tip he gave me was to use ver. 1.52.
With that, I could play the entire game w/o any prob.

Hope it'd help.
