Depends on what you are looking for. Technically FF7 has flaws, lots of them. But, there is no doubting it is an iconic game. If you under 16 or so, you should like it a lot. If you are any older, and look at games from a technical point, i'd recommend another FF. But you should certainly try it(and all the other FF games, for that matter). At the very least, it's a lot of fun.

I'd buy FF7. One of my good friends showed me the game about eight years ago and I was fixed. About three years ago I saw it at the discount table for $13 and bought it. The story is wonderful, the characters are well thought out, the music sparks emotion, and the short 'good graphics' movies from time to time make it interesting (considering most of the time the graphics are very cube-like.)

Personally, I wouldn't even bother. FFVII is greatly inferior to FFIX, so I think that would be a better starting point. If you really want an older game, FFVI has aged much better than VII.

I can say that the graphics were very poor for the time the game was realised.

For example games that came on the same year (ex Tomb Raider 2, Tekken 2 etc) or previous years (Tekken 1) had better graphics. Same with movies

That's a given of course, but s/he wanted to know whether or not to play this game, and s/he should at least try it, as s/he should all the titles in the series. But yes, I would recommend you start with FFVI, and work your way up.

So, basically, AngelvsDevil118, if you're starting the FF series, go for VI or IX, but if you're just looking to play this game, go for it.

Starting with another game just to play something completely different would make you retarded in the same sense as riding a unicycle for five minutes and firing the engine of a double-axel truck would.

If you're interested in the game, play it. Nobody else can tell you what you should like and dislike. If FFX-2 was your first game, then FFVII will not leave a bad taste in your mouth because you don't know what to expect yet. You can just sell it, maybe even make a profit, if you buy it and play it and end up disliking it for whatever reason. Bear in mind that X-2 is not like the other games, and VII even less due to its darker theme and all that cussin' Barrett does.

What the hell does age have to do with wether or not you like a game? I'm 20 and I prefer 8-Bit over most current/next-gen games out there.

Jftr, if you're actually 20 and still basing your internet persona on an inferior video game character, that is rather sad. It is especially sad considering that the character is so popular and hundreds or thousands of other people use pretty much the same name.

In short, you're either lying about your age or probably have extremely low self-esteem. Either way, it's pretty pathetic.

My "name" was originally based on FFVI's Cyan. I dropped it, only to pick it back up simply because I think it looks (and sounds) rather neat. Granted, I'm sure there're important differences, but the fact remains...

Prak

But you don't base your entire profie around that character and that character's name is only half of your username. Yours is distinctive.

On the other hand, that guy's username is Safer Sephiroth. You cannot get more generic than that. And the rank title just seals the package.

I think it's worth playing to see what all the hype is about. You may be dissapointed though if you expect it to be the best thing ever.

8 and 9 are improvements in a lot of ways. 9 is probably the best overall, but you can easily pick up almost all of them for the psone. Try them all!

It may not be the best thing ever, but it is joint with FFIX as my favorite.

I'm well aware of the faults, the terrible graphics, plot-holes and all that jazz, but i still loved the game, it is just a good game.

it kept me entertained, and the materia system was great.

the plotline was a little botched, but therer were some parts i liked.

Yeah, if your gonna start the FFseries, i think FFVII is a good start, but you should know i think FFIX is just as good as VII.

My opinion: If you want the game just go for it. However, I personally think, that ff ix is a much better start or if you dont mind (or like) 2d graphics you could start with a classic one (4-6 are very nice games). If you havent played X, i think that should be your next ff game as you have played X-2.

One more thing: Becarefull on ebay. I saw that ff7's prices go very high (there was one being sold for $250), so know that you can get the game more cheaper than wasting your money like this.

Star Ocean 2 outclasses just about every FF. SO3, while not as good, is still better than most of the psx/ps2-era FF's.

SO3 was good at points, but it doesn't come near an FF-level of quality, IMHO.

On VII: I wouldn't get it, for most of the reasons listed above; boring plot, weak characters, etc. (although the materia system was awesome).

You'll have a better time with IX or X (never played VIII).

i'd say graphically, 7 isn't all that much worse than 8 or 9. They've all aged poorly (although not 9 so much. it was clearly a psone game from day 1)

the field characters used goraud shading instead of texture mapping and are very low poly, and the battles don't use the full screen.
The fmv's don't use actors (so it looks wooden)

And some of the prerendered scenes look blocky (look at the floor in nibelheim)

and also massive popup on the world map. (psone only though probably)

alright that seems a lot really. :s
