:smrtst: hihi, I doubt it.

Could you explain WHY it is your favourite anime?

Seymour Guado

Yes i can. Goku was my idle growing up, they've got super sweet moves, they can fly, the toys are really good (not that i play with them...), the storyline was compelling, being a fellow bald I sympathized with Krillan, and the fighting was off the chain. What more can you ask for in an anime.

I did try to watch Dragonball Z when it was Cartoon Network, but it just carried on forever with the Freiza Saga, not becasue the fights were longer than I expected.... but because Cartoon Network kept showing so many episodes and then going back to an earlier one! And they did this again, when they finally managed to get to the Cell Saga.... :notgood:

I did once hear that Dragonball Z (the original comics) were only supposed to be shortlived so that the writer could send Dragonball off with a bang (.i.e. having Vegeta kill the major characters)... anyone know the truth of this?

YES I LOVE DRAGON BALL Z!
and Dragon Ball GT fo dat matter
But i absoloutely hate Dragon Ball - too boring

Goku was my ultimate hero SSJ 1 2 3 and & 4
and yeah that really pissed me off aswell when they kept on repeating the frieza Saga....
but its not my fav anime that place is reserved for Poke'mon!
then Dragon Ball Z and then Kenshin Himura the Wandering Samurai

I'll agree to that... I've been collecting the UK reprints of the Manga, really funny stuff... especially the visit to Penguin Village.

The fact that they kept replaying the Freeza saga never bothered me cause the was one of my favorite sagas. I liked DragonBall more than DragonBall GT. I tried watching GT but I thought it was weird.

i too am a big fan of the show. i love the laughs and the edge of your seat suspence.

and they didn't jsut restart the series cause they felt like it. they did it cause they dind't have the rest of the series done yet. (done = either... translated or cencored..or ruining the fucking score...they did something that made them delay the release of newer episodes every season or so...)

but whatever. i got to see it all. i saw the movies. it was fun. i'll never forget those fun days. ^^

Its not my favourite ever but i do like the series a lot (subbed and manga as supposed to the dubbed ones)

Dragonball and DBZ great. DBGT is okay (gets better towards the end Babei/Black Star sagas)

Tact

subbed is so much better cause the original voices on some characters are way more badass!!

and you can really feel the anger and rage in their tone and stuff like whenever vegeta gets fucking pissed and stuff. just 100x more awesome.

but i dont' hate the enlighs voices. not at all. i thank them for making it easier for me to enjoy the show. :p

the only thing i hate is how they changed the music.

I own most of the side movies and the lost movie in Japanese and I love watching DragonBallZ:Movie 12:The Rebirth of Fusion! Goku and Vegeta! in Japanese. I thought Fusion Reborn in English was ok. I've most of every DragonBall series' as I was growing up...so I'd have to say I'm an avid fan of the shows. My favorite character of them all is the DragonBallGT's Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta.

I used to like Dragonball Z when I was younger. But the fighting looked so stupid when you compared it to Yu Yu Hakusho. All the fighting on Dragonball Z is just punching and kicking. But on Yu Yu Hakusho, the moves actually have interesting names(rei gun, dragon of the darkness flame, that thousand skull thing that Shishiwakamaru uses etc.) Not only that, but the items are interesting as well(rei gun booster, orb of baast, mirror, and the sword that changes humans to demons.) But if you still like DBZ, that's fine.

I always used to watch it every week on Toonami (or whatever its called) definitely one of my favorite animes. I only saw a couple of animes before it so it was still new to me, back then it was more of just a 'cartoon' for me.

I still enjoy it and I like alot of the music from it.

Vegeta's Theme: Hells Bells

Dr. Gero
Androids Theme

I liked these music themes alot. They were the best I reckon. Bruce Faulconer composed it I think?

Fuck you for reviving this. I'm not going to close it since we don't have another active DBZ thread, but don't continue to revive threads that no one has even looked at in months.

Also, I say again, DBZ and DBGT are utter shit and a disgrace to the awesomeness that was Dragonball.

I enjoyed the whole series. But The best of it is from the beginning of Dragon Ball up till Goku defeats Frieza. After that, it got overly repetitive and nothing really meaningful happened. Toriyama had some really interesting characters before he threw in Saiyans after Saiyans. After the Frieza Saga, all they showed us was how powerful the next Super Saiyan level was. Which was lame because by doing so, great characters were left behind like Yamcha, Krilin (my personal favorite), Oolong, Master Roshi, etc... These characters were great and added a lot to the series IMO. And at this point in the series, we didn't have any real World Martial Art Championship, and these we really fun to watch.

I think Toriyama should have ended the story after Goku became a Super Saiyan and defeats Frieza. Who was SUPPOSED to be the strongest being in the whole universe.

But yeah, back during high school, Dragon Ball (the comics) was one of my favorite.

Dragonball was great. DBZ was good. GT I just couldn't bare to finish it.

Apparently the DBZ manga is s'pose to have a better pace. By that I mean, less talking about how I'm much stronger than you are, less time powering up, and less staring at each other's loins. AKA Less filler. UGH I hate you Garlic Jr.

But yea Dragonball definitely had good character development, better storyline and pacing. Plus it was funny to boot.

GT was just bad. Maybe because Toriyama didn't do it? I'm not certain if he did it. Either way though, story was crap. I did enjoy Super 17 though.

I watched the DBZ series in Spanish. The voice are actors are definitely much better than in English. Still, it doesn't beat Dragonball, that cartoon was truly awesome; again, I watched it in Spanish as well. Ya'll really should watch the Mexican channels more. =P

I agree DBZ started to suck hard after the Frieza saga, but I have to admit, Goku and Vegeta's misadventures inside Majin Buu were an interesting twist, though a bit wierd. I laughed a bit at the sight of Vegeta freaking out over a damn worm. XD

Hynad
06-24-2007, 10:12 PM
Yeah, near the end of the Dragon Ball comics, Toriyame wanted to come back to the roots and tried (and succeeded to some extents) to come back to a more comical tone like there was in the early days of the series.

Take the naughty pictures of Bulma that Goku promises to show to the High Kao master if he help them(I don't know what's his real name in english, I didn't read this version of the manga, but I'm talking about the elder one that fused with an ugly old witch)... Or the goofyness of Gotenks when he attempts the fusion but fails miserably. These kind of humorous events were left out of the story almost completely since the Dragon Ball era (pre Saiyan Saga).

The only thing that sucks is that Toriyama could have ended the series with a big bang by offering us a last COMPLETE world martial art Tournament, but decided to end it abruptly with the coming of Oob. :(

Definitely DBZ is my all time favorite anime and manga, and believe me, I have seen TONS. This is the anime that got me hooked on the genre. I've always been a fan of cartoons and willing to try anything once, but when I saw Dragonball Z that weekend in Febryary when Cartoon Network did "Full Cycle"--remember? They ran anime for an etire weekend with DBZ episodes and movies as the centerpiece. I was totally sold on it and have never looked back. Toriyama is a terrific writer/artist and that anime--because it basically followed the manga almost frame by frame--is really great. I will never outgrow this series--the Mickey Mouse of anime!

Except for Goku, Krilin has always been my favorite. Then comes Master Roshi.

The others are all great, but these 2 have often been comic reliefs in a story that tried to get too dramatic and repeatitive for its own good.

Same here. I grew up first watching DBZ when it was on Cartoon Network, on the old school Toonami in the aftertoon. I'd set my VCR to record it lol. What got me hooked on it was definitely the Frieza saga. I guess what made it more exciting for me, is that I had a neighbor friend that I played around with acting like we were super saiyans lol.. (I was like 10 yrs old). Then started buying the actual VCR tapes, then when they went to DVD I bought those too. Still have them! After I had gotten internet, I then got into the original DB series using those really old .rm video files (realmedia player lol), way back in like 1996. DB, DBZ, and DBGT have all made a huge impact on my childhood indeed. I'm still looking for those dragon balls to wish to become a saiyan IRL >_<

PFFT!

I actually caught DBZ on a Japanese channel, completely raw. And I watched it without really understanding it and still enjoying it. Sure it did sort of drag-on for a bit in some places, but when you actually watched the fighting, it was so intense. But I do agree with a few others, I didn't like GT. And neither did Toriyama really, it wasn't canon and it tried to capture the essence of both original series and it fell flat. I am very excited for the new Battle of the Gods movie, which IS canon. :)

I actually did sort of hate DBZ just like alot of people seem to here, back when I was 18. I got into DBZ in high school, and then around my senior year, all my friends hated it, so I joined the bandwagon. It wasn't till years later (now 29) I realized how much it was such a part of my love of anime, that I never hated it. And re-watching it again as KAI and then seeing all the movies and episodes I missed (seriously, Wrath of the Dragon was SUCH an awesome movie) it made me appreciate it even more, and appreciate all the shonen shows after.

Watch the original Dragon Ball Z japanese version (291 ep., with language of your choice).

If you've never watched Dragon Ball, follow this order:

- Dragon Ball Z
- Dragon Ball GT
