Well ok Theres quite a few "Best video game songs" Threads but they are flooded with Final Fantasy songs o_O, and when I am looking for Epic as in give you goose bumps video game music I get tired of being redirected over and over and over again to One-Winged Angel.

Now I will put my favorite in two catagories and attempt to link them to the Galbadia hotel.
Bare with me, this is my first post but I am a life long video game player that adores good music.

Meloncholy/Calming music

Resident Evil: Outbreak -
Opening Theme (This is probably one of my favorite, and definately my favorite RE song)
http://gh.ffshrine.org/soundtracks/2379/15272

Mafia -
Main Theme (Absolutely Beautiful, something you would expect hearing from the Green Mile or something)
http://gh.ffshrine.org/soundtracks/3263/35049

Medal of Honor Frontline -
After the Drop (Both After the Drop and Arnhem really brought out the sorrow of war and conflict, its hard to make you teary eyed while killing nazis but it did it for me)
http://gh.ffshrine.org/soundtracks/246/5

Arnhem
http://gh.ffshrine.org/soundtracks/246/11

Metal Gear Solid -
The Best is Yet to Come (You knew it was coming, this is probably the saddest song to ever grace a video game)
http://gh.ffshrine.org/soundtracks/1036/18

Silent Hill 3 -
Breeze ~ in monochrome night (Very Beautiful Piano play)
http://gh.ffshrine.org/soundtracks/108/2

Dance with the Night Wind (For some reason this reminds me of Colorado and my trip to the Black Hill in South Dakota, excellent piece)
http://gh.ffshrine.org/soundtracks/108/3

A Stray Child (This one is a true SH gem with has the unique SH feel 100%)
http://gh.ffshrine.org/soundtracks/200/10

Silent Hill 4 -
121 Room of Angel (This song made SH4, First time I heard it in the trailer I knew a great new SH soundtrack was coming and I couldnt wait)
http://gh.ffshrine.org/soundtracks/201/26

MGS Snake Eater -
Ending Theme of Big Boss Battle (Instrumental)
http://gh.ffshrine.org/soundtracks/176/5

Time Splitters II -
2019 Neo Tokyo (Reminiscent of Blade Runner, Beautiful)
http://gh.ffshrine.org/soundtracks/407/10

Adrenaline/Epic Battle music

Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction -
Deck of 52 (This song made me want to hunt down more of the deck, just so I could hear the song more)
http://gh.ffshrine.org/soundtracks/1643/5

Trouble At Work
http://gh.ffshrine.org/soundtracks/1643/13

Explosion Scherzo
http://gh.ffshrine.org/soundtracks/1643/17

Time Splitters II -
Ice Station (This is the ultimate kick everybodies ass song, Reminds me of Quake or Unreal Tournament, Baddass Juggurnaut music that I cannot stress enough, if you enjoy battle music, GET THIS)
http://gh.ffshrine.org/soundtracks/407/27

Small Soldiers - (Ok, this is a very little known fact, but the PS1 game Small Soldiers which was an adaption to a movie in around.. 98 I belive? Has some EXCELLENT music, the feel changes from Naturalistic Primal battle music to Army battle music and a few mix inbetween) ps the game sucked, I ended up using my copy for just listening to the music :P
http://gh.ffshrine.org/soundtracks/3033

I will post more soon and I realize I am cutting things short but its 6am and I need my sleep :P.
I urge ANYONE to add to this list, as I want this list to help video game music lovers to find the best music made out there.

Cheers!

I wholeheartedly agree with those two wistful songs. Nijmegen Bridge's music was germane for the tenebrous atmosphere, as well. Spooky, with a hint of caution and dispair.

It'll take time for me to list my own enrapturing Video Game music, but it shall come.

Hmmm. While I've always loved music, there is one song that drew me in the first time I heard it. It is from FFXI.

hitman bloodmoney - apocalypse, when you made your hit, for me it was in the theater, and then walk slowly over the red carpet and everything around you is chaos because of the kill, thats something that give me a weird feeling, just great, and yes the one track from ut 2004, track 8 i think, thats one of the best for calming

My Favorite Epic (battle) music:

1) Advent Rising - Bounty Hunter (once the first boss battle started, and this song pumped through my speakers I was hooked. Even though there were only like 4 boss battles in the game, this music made each one stand out much more than they probably would have without it)

http://gh.ffshrine.org/song/449/3

2) Chaos Legion - Massive Strokes. A pulse-pounding track to go with a heated final battle!

http://gh.ffshrine.org/song/617/22

3) Final Fantasy X - A Contest of Aeons or Summon Beast Battle. My favorite battle music from a Final Fantasy game. It's a shame it was only used for that one fight.

1) Cheery, upbeat music

A Vision of Escaflowne - Colors
My favorite upbeat tune, love the rhythm and the acoustic guitar.
http://gh.ffshrine.org/song/3343/14

Uncharted Waters II Special Edition - Olive Wind
Love this theme, has a nice, slightly tropical feel
http://gh.ffshrine.org/song/1207/3

Uncharted Waters II Special Edition - Southern Twighlight ~ Dance on the Cape of Good Hope
One of the most complex and refined pieces of game music ever made, with multiple instrumental layers and very nice almost tropical club feel to it. It is a long piece, (almost 9 minutes), with two main parts. A slow jazzy beginning, that switches to a fast paced dance number around 4:50. The transition is very smooth, and this remains one of my favorite songs of all time.
http://gh.ffshrine.org/song/1207/4

2) Modern Times- great music with a distinctly modern/near future feel

Snatcher Zoom Tracks - Twighlight of Neo Kobe
An absolutely amazing piece that I can't reccomend enough. It has a quite jazzy feel, and brings to mind the hustle and bustle of a futuristic metropolis.
http://gh.ffshrine.org/song/4318/4

Snatcher Zoom Tracks - Theme of Jaime
An amazing track slightly remeniscent of the 80's best soundtracks. A very upbeat theme with some great electric instrumentation.
http://gh.ffshrine.org/song/4318/9

Witch Hunter Robin OST 1 - Inspection, STN
Somewhat remeniscent of the MIST theme from Parasite Eve II, but with a slightly faster beat and better precussion. Both of these songs are simply amazing.
Inspection

STN
http://gh.ffshrine.org/song/3514/11

3) Epic

Patlabor II - Hallucination
Dramatic, there is no other way to describe this one. It has an excellent air of tension to it, and is the perfect piece for anyone needing a song to build up tension

Definately Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams for epic music. Especially the last boss fight. Too bad it loops so quickly. :-(
Even though there's lots of electronic noises in it, I find Sea of Rage from Tales of Legendia pretty epic. Also, Unrivaled Chaos from Legend of Legaia and Demise from FFX-2 really get my blood pumping.
For sad music, I would pick one of the Silent Hill games, or perhaps Indigo Prophecy.

Hmm...I reckon that the most tension-building music I've heard recently would have to be Freelancer, from the Dead Rising OST.

http://gh.ffshrine.org/song/6557/2

The most epic music I've found on FFShrine, while not strictly from the videogame, still deserves a mention. It's a remix of the FF5 'Battle of the Big Bridge' music, and...well, it's kind of hard for me to explain. I got a headache at the moment, so you'll have to be the judge yourself.
