Two pieces of news that should be common knowledge to Sony now but enough to leave us questioning the PS3`s future.

It seems that Atari are putting off any development of PS3 games until 2007 while SNK Playmore see the PS3 as "a risk" due to how expensive it is and have stated that they won`t develop for the system until 2009. Read the articles below....

No Atari games until 07 (http://ps3.qj.net/No-Atari-Titles-On-PS3-Until-2007/pg/49/aid/60582)

No SNK games until 09 (http://ps3.qj.net/No-SNK-titles-on-PS3-till-2009/pg/49/aid/60554)

What are your thoughts on this?.

Will more developers follow Atari and SNK?.

As the Indonesians would say, "Jam Karet"

meaning rubber time (literally) or time is flexible.

Why do it today when you can do it tomorrow?

Anyway not developing games just ruins Sony's whole philosophy of having a huge range of game and having something for everyone to enjoy. Ehh, final fantasy, sony can't fail.

I find it pretty roffle that all the third party support seems to be going to Nintendo and away from Sony this time. I don't even mean that in a "Damn Sony, they should die, Ninty roxorz lol" sense. I just find the irony amusing.

Who would ever of thought that Nintendo will be up with the big boys? Truly the gaming world is more complex and competitive that we have initially dreamed.

smart move i'd say
Microsoft is in a position to really take Sony's lead now so the future on what console will dominate isnt as certain as the last generation
especially with the Wii being a really appealing team up for the 360 and the proof(DS) that there's a huge new audience willing to play really simplified intuitive games that just arent about bringing the last generation in a photorealistic dressing

I still reckon they'll should all join up. Everyone would be happy, and then the consumer's won't have to make such a hard choice.

Well, i`m pretty sure Sony cares right about now. ;(

Any developer willing to pull out of making games leading up to a new launch of a system is a kick in the hairy earlobes for sony. I keep getting the feeling that Atari and SNK aren`t the only devs in this position. The high price must surely scare off any small or independent devs.

lol what. You say that as if Nintendo is some kind of n00b upstart. Maybe seeing who's on top change is a surprise to you, but video games have been around a long time and Nintendo is the only console maker who has managed to stay not only in the business, but highly profitable since the 80s. It doesn't even matter if they are "winning" this time because something else will come along and people will go "OMG NINTENDO SI NOT ON TOP ANYMORE" and they will keep chugging right along.

And as for this news, that is because Atari and SNK are tiny companies. I can't imagine that Sony is screaming in frustration about not having any King of Fighters games on their system until 2009. It would matter if EA or Konami or somebody was saying this, but until then I don't think it's going to make a particularly big impact.

Indeed, Atari and SNK aren't huge developers and Sony won't miss their games terribly. But it's just proof that there is a lot of cautiousness surrounding making games for the PS3. They see a ton of people excited about the Wii and the fact that it's really cheap to develop for it warrants the possibility of big profits really quickly. But then they see the PS3 and a lot of people a little wary of the price and the fact that it is apparently hard to program for, so big possibility for no profits right off the bat.

It's not proof that there's a lot of cautiousness around making PS3 games. It's proof that a couple small companies are cautious about it. There's no reason to think EA or Konami is going to feel the same about it.

Uh yeah, there has been more companies expression their concern over developing for the PS3, but they just haven't gone to the lengths that these two companies have.

Then those statements would be proof of there being lots of caution around developing for the PS3, not Atari and SNK refusing to develop games for it immediately. But that's a statement with little weight unless backed by references anyway.

Plenty of people have expressed concern about the Wii's unusual interface as well. Expressions of concern is hardly anything to get worked up about, as they are pretty typical of any console, even those not doing anything differently.

As my rebuttle (:):):):)), the only reason why Nintendo is still in the running is because of Mario. Its always Mario this Mario that, Mario Rpg, Mario Tennis, Mario Golf, Mario goes shopping, mario finds a girlfriend, mario gets married, mario plays with fire, mario goes through puberty etc etc etc.

Not really.

Nintendo have a firm foothold in the industry mainly due down to their constant innovation. It has nothing to do with milking a franchise thankfully.

Even if this were the case, it wouldn't be much of a point, since you are conceding already that Nintendo is in fact already "with the big boys."

Have you ever heard of a thing called Zelda? Howabout Pokemon? Howabout a million other games Nintendo makes that have nothing to do with Mario?
