Toughy, but I'd probably have to go for the Suikoden series, as it's my most played RPG since the FF series. There is so much for you to do in the games. Suikoden was tough to collect the 108 stars, whereas Suikoden 2 was a little easier, but still challenging. The best part was that you could use your save game from Suikoden to link to the second game, and therefore have access to your main character from the first game in the second. That was a pretty smart addition.

I'd like to say....Suikoden series. It has an exciting stories(which mean you won't be boring when you play it again after you finished the game). It has many side quest, like get some weird character, add some powerfull beast, and many other.the other part in the game that make it really enjoyment....it's the war battle.I like to organized the character before going to war.:D

I wonder if Suikoden III can use the previous data from Suikoden 2 and 1.........

Crono trigger owns all, but if I was to choise a newer game, the Baldeurs gate 2. Its really fun, but if your used to FF, then its an extreme challenge. Both Zelda's for N64 were awsome also.

Ultima Online.....

It starts out great for newbies by giving you quests that teach
you how to play the game.

Also, there are tons of people online, so it's a great community,
always somewhere there to help.

The graphics are pretty good and there are tons of creatures.

It's a pretty great game all around.

Mine are Baldur's Gate and Chrono Trigger :D

Something like Secrret of mana, chrono trigger, something like that. Probably chrono trigger actually for the superior story and replay value

Well, I'm going to have to say Earthbound, for the SNES. Seriously, that game is just awesome, the storyline, the challenge, the replay value, the MUSIC, and the characters were just cool, in my opinion. I'm listening to the music from the Happy Happy Village right now, it's cool. Also, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, and all Zeldas are just masterpieces, awesome.

P.S.-this Happy Happy Village music is creeping me out :uh?: :eye: :notgood:

I was kinda shocked nobody mentioned Grandia 2. I think it's besides the ff-saga the best RPG. I have to admit I haven't played suikoden 2 yet, but I'm now at a merely twenty hours with Grandia 2 and I'm still totally in trance of joy because of the, firstable; beautiful graphics for it's 'simple' style. The storyline is fine too, but the best thing of the entirely game has to be the battle-system. Man oh man what a great system, far better than any ff. In some ff's I was quickly irritated when travelling from point A to point B because of that damn high random encounters always, so I just ran quickly the shortest way I could and sometimes even escaped(mwah, that was more in the past though)from battles. In Grandia 2 you just WANT to battle, so you're even searching for enemies because of the funrate of the battles. I can yap endlessly over this sick game but I don't...

Anywayz, If you have lots of patience-the storyline is very comprehensive- and love ff7(graphics) make sure you check out grandia 2, it's phat. (Man, this looks almost like a damn commercial):D

Are the Zelda games RPG's? u dont go ^ levels, and i thought that was what made an RPG an RPG. if u consider the Zelda's as RPGs, then u would have to say the Tomb Raider series is, which i dont believe it is. I guess though since u r saying that bout Zelda, then i will have to say that my fave is any TR game.

As for REAL (in my opinion) RPGs, i guess my other faves would b Secret & Legend of Mana and Mario RPG. I didn't like the chronos or BoF's. i dont really care much for other rpgs besides the ff's actually.

Greetings.

Favourite RPG besides FF? Hoo boy, this'll take a while to sort out. Think I'll break it down by system.

NES - Wizard & Warriors 1 - 3 - A great series for the NES.

Megadrive - Phantasy Star 2 - I got this from Enkidoh. A very good and enjoyable game.

SNES - Breath of Fire II - This game is just awesome. Great storyline, and the gameplay was good too. Zelda 3, A link to the past - While not aa RPG per se, this is, in my mind, the BEST of the Zelda series. Great gameplay, and very easy to play.

Saturn - Mystaria realms of lore - I saw this game being played in a game shop about eight years ago, didn't get it because at the time I wasn't a SEGA fan. Still over those eight years, I found myself wanting the game BADLY! Whilst the graphics aren't anything special, there's a certain "something" to it, which made it memorable, to me at least. Lunar 1 + 2 and Grandia - See below.

PSX - Grandia - Graphics were similiar to FF Tactics, and the gameplay, sound and story are great. Also, some of the lines in the character responses were good for a laugh. Lunar 1 + 2 - Brilliance, pure brilliance. Legend of Dragoon - Original, in a sense, and has Dragoons as mainstream characters. Wild Arms - Good story line, the battle system was okay, all in all a good game. Suikoden 1 + 2 - I LOVE THESE GAMES!!! nuff said. Vandal Hearts 1 + 2 - The first one, similiar in some aspects to FF Tactics (made by the same team I think, 1st released in 96, BEFORE FFVII and FF Tactics, and the second in 2000). The first is better than the second. Persona - A quirky little title, not bad. Xenogears - Good story, good graphics and gameplay. Legend of Legaia - Standard RPG. Koudelka - Dark, gothic atmosphere. I like it for those two reasons alone. Star Ocean 2 The second story - Hard and challenging. Qualities I enjoy and look for in a game.

PS2 - Shadow Hearts - The sequel to Koudelka, and a brilliant game.

Dreamcast - Skies of Arcadia - It's a pirate type game. Big enemies to beat, and prooves the old adage "The bigger they are, the harder they fall." Airships flying around. Customisable airships. Airships with big, big, BIG GUNS!! Oh, and cool airship battles (something missing from the FF series.) Grandia 2 - Awesome. Silver - While not an RPG, still fun.

Phew! What a list. Still, I enjoy these games, and while I haven't finished all of them, I have most of them. And I'm gonna damn well try to finish the rest!

hey: Vandal Hearts isn't done by the same team as FFT. The only connection FFT has to an outside series is to Tactics Ogre and the Quest team. Square acquisitioned them(the group or key members I'm not sure). . .I don't know if this was before or after FFT, but the similarities between the two games are quite obvious.

"JOIN UP!"

Personally Grandia 2 (pick a system...)

I was so involved I cried at least twice the first time through.

I've never played a few of the rpg some of you are mentioning: Vandal Hearts, Lunar series, Skies of Arcadia, Grandia (The first one).

There's only one rpg game I wished I had played and that's Valkyrie Profile, but only because I think I would have liked it.

I personally like Crono Cross. Zelda is pretty good the first time but I find that it doesn't last.

Its so hard to pick just one, so instead I'm going to give a list of some of the greatest games I've ever played.

Chrono Trigger
Valkyrie Profile
Might and Magic 7
Heroes of Might and Magic 3
Secret of Evermore

Well, those are Durendal's "Fab Five"

I'm so disapointed that they never finished the N64 sequel. I'm hoping something in the Earthbound franchise will be appearing on a console in the near future. I have yet to read anything about it, but it's a definite possibility....

I would have to agree entirely with you, Chii. Earthbound kicks ass as well as Chrono Trigger. Even though Earthbound had pretty crappy graphics and the battle system wasn't great, I still love it. I hope they make a Gamecube version of it, even though I'd have no money to buy it.

Other games

Star Ocean 2. It starts out slow, which turns a lot of people away from the game, but it still rocks. Especially making your own weapons and the battle system. That and the fact that you can go above level 99. My main character is at level 200 and something. All the skills that you can get. I could go on and on, but I won't. It's just so great. Go Enix!

Super Mario RPG. Yes! A light-hearted RPG for once (aside from Earthbound)! There needs to be more just-for-fun RPGs. One problem, though, there's no Luigi!!!!!!!!! There's just a little thing on Star Hill that's his wish, but no actual Luigi. Booo...

Secret of Mana 2 & 3. Secret of Mana (on Super Nintendo) was actually Secret of Mana 2 (for those who don't know already). Anyways, both these games rocked! Especially the battle system, that was a nice breath of fresh air comapred to the rest of the RPG genre. And the plots were good as well. Play them or DIE!!

Terranigma. A badass game for Super Nintendo that I had never heard of before a few years ago. A Secret of Mana-like battle system and a strange yet cool storyline. PLAY IT!!

Breath of Fire. 'Nuf said.

There are probably others, but I'm so tired so I can't think.

I'd have to say Legend Of Dragoon. It's not my favorite, but it's very good.

I really love Zelda: A Link to the Past, one of my all time faves. Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance is good too.

I have also played the likes of Terranigma and Lufia 1 & 2, well worth a look.

But sadly...possibly the only one who has never played the Suikoden series. :(
I would love to give it a shot.

Star Ocean : The Second Story - My favorite RPG after FF. A good storyline, good characters and a lot of replay value.

Tales of Phantasia - Good storyline, battle system like Star Ocean but in 2D and funny as hell!

Lufia 2 : Rise of the Sinistrals - A freaking hard RPG with interesting puzzles.

I should beat them again, it has been a while since I played these games.
