What do you guys think is the best movie theme ever?

I think Predator cos macho.

Enter the Dragon easily. So damn funky, I feel like doing a funky dance right now.

Bending the rules so I can say Doctor Who. The Shawshank Redemption has some magnificent music, though nothing that really constitutes a theme tune.

I adored the music to both The Magnificent Seven and The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.
Then of course there's Indiana Jones and Star Wars.

Best movie theme ever... the Godfather theme. Hands down. But the pieces by John Williams come a very close second.

In terms of overall opening movie themes, I think that John Ottman's 'Main Theme' for The Usual Suspects would have to be one of my favourites.

I have lots of favourites. For now, I'll mention Terminator 2 being one of them. And Blade Runner.

dc probably has a better reputation for coming out with memorable themesongs than marvel does even though lately they havent been doing that too much but anyway, i just hope they dont screw up the ww music o.o they probably need to get John Williams on it :)

probably Star Wars, not for sure, Williams wrote so many good stuff. Superman is another cancidate. Uh, and I really like Elfman's Spiderman theme.

Old thread, but noticed no one had mentioned the theme to Lawrence Of Arabia.
It's the finest example of a European orchestra playing Arabian-based tonality that I can think of, and so sums up the film perfectly.

The opening for Chariots of Fire is fantastic, from a total package point of view. The music itself is distinctive, the framing is epic. Steadycam on the beach of a bunch of runners in slight slowmotion with the muted details of a beach/ocean background. Cinematography 101.

In an interview, Vangelis said the director of Chariots of Fire had his heart set on L'Enfant as the opening theme (which is a good song, but has no energy). Vangelis came up with the Chariots of Fire theme and presented it to them and they accepted. They admit in the interview that Vangelis' music is what made the movie memorable. Without the Chariots of Fire theme, the movie would have been long forgotten. He won Oscar for best soundtrack in 1982 for Chariots of Fire.
