Honestly, I have been bored lately with much of Nobuo Uematsu compositions (FF 4,5,6,7,8,9,10) good thing that I finally give chance to listen ff 123, his earlier compositions, and it indeed a refreshment after being fed up with the tons of FF albums in market.

the only thing I have on my regular playlist is stuff from Pray. I don't listen to videogame music much ironically, but when I do, I'm not neccessarily anti-uematsu. I don't mind listening to some stuff for nostalgia reasons ~

and I still wouldn't mind learning a few pieces on a piano from the piano collections ;-;;

I rarely listen to uematsu compositions nowadays. sometime I'm thinking to delete my entire ff music collection...

actually I'm currently learning Fighting from FF7 piano collection. it's exhausing piece indeed.

I know a bit, but not much. at all. I got a really good deal on a nice synth but there's not much room in my house to have it set up, and that's really the only chance I have to practice.

once I move out I should bite the bullet and get lessons or something ~

Uematsu's music only appeals to me when he creates those classics, like to zanarkand, eyes on me, aerith's theme and the legendary final fantasy theme

The music is good, I don't mind it at all. But it's missing that epic feeling that it had before.

I like it all except for maybe the AC soundtrack, it seemed more or less thrown together and synthetic, I don't know how to put it, but for the most part, I love it.

I'm not as big an Uematsu fan as I used to be. Fighterspledge has it right in that his music just doesn't have the epic feel to it anymore. I find that on each new game that's out since FF7, there's only one or two tracks that are engaging.

I agree. He's just done so much music over the years that I think he's getting bored with it himself. I've noticed that he's going to do music for Nintendo games and Microsoft games, not just for Square anymore. Hopefully this will give him more inspiration to do better.

Btw, I can do most of the FF7 songs on clarinet and guitar. I have the clarinet sheet music in gimp format LOL

I think Uematsu stopped trying the moment he realised that he's famous. I can't stand the newer watered-down crap that he's been putting out recently. Square-Enix really needs to fire the bastard and replace him with Yoko Shimomura.

Uematsu already left Square Enix 2 years ago, and I doubt SE would want to re-hire Shimomura after she voluntarily left in 2003.

Dang, she'd make a good replacement to Uematsu. Iwadare would be a good candidate though, his work is wunderbar.

No, currently Hamauzu is the hottest composer in Square Enix, he has been working 10 years at SE already, I think he's deserved to become the next main FF composer.

I think Iwadare's happy to work as a freelance, as he has done throughout his career. His care-free spirit would be crushed by a company as demanding as Square Enix. If SE wanted him, they would've hired him ages ago.

I played a lot of stuff by Uematsu on the piano by ear not too long ago, but then I really started practicing, something like 2-3 hours a day. Now that I'm playing Rachmaninoff and Beethoven and some of the greater piano music, Uematsu's music isn't quite as appealing as it used to.

I think his compositions have lost a lot of their initial appeal, but some of his particularly famous ones still strike a pleasant chord in my mind.

Hitoshi Sakimoto kinda goes overboard, and tries to put way too much emotion into the songs. I find them hard to imagine them in the song without being a major distraction.

Nobou kinda had a talent to make amazing pieces that harmonised with the game perfectly, but i feel Sakimoto's work is a seperate entity.

Anyway Sakimoto doesn't have on of the things that i loved in the FF music... melodies. Well it probably does but the way i hear it, its just one big clash of medieval orchestral music. I saw bring back Nobou and bring back those melodies that made Final Fantasy Famous.

Anyway as long as theres a Piano Collections to follow (and Sarah gets it on the site :D) i'm happy, but i feel there won't be a P.C. If you hear the music you should be able to understand why.

Personally I think Uematsu's best work was FFVI and FFVIII, but then again, the horrid instruments on FFVII killed a lot of the appeal to that game's music. It was kind of halfassed though. Anything past VIII though isn't really that memorable though.

I suppose it's all personal opinion. I'll never stop liking the FF stuff that I do like. It's just that some of the later stuff is harder for me to get into.
