Yeah Shinra is that bad; they're using the lifestream, which consists of souls of dead people, to generate energy for the living, all while profiting from it. In a way it closely resembles modern technology, since fossil fuels are dead beings, yet it's also much worse - the lifestream recycles souls, meaning that they're eternally processing, while bones are only temporary vessels.

They're stealing souls that would one day be used again, and that's indeed morally wrong. Question answered?

Shinra also started the Jenova Project which mad eall the main story of FFVII transpire. Then they crushed all of the Sector 7 Slums. Then they don't care one ounce about the lives and damage lost and just continue on looking for further wealth in the Promised Land. They also beat the ounce proud Wutai into a tourist trap.

That should do. Idiot.

What the hell's wrong if someone wanted to know about Shinra. If you don't like it or don't want to answer it then, don't post stupid shit about how much you don't like it. Unless if it's something along the lines anything rkrider or hal0master wrote.

Don't worry Vincent, their just dicks to anyone who just started off or likes Final Fantasy VII. But just to avoid future conflict, explain everything you write and spell it right so they don't have anything on you.

interesting question, Shinra are obviously fully aware of the harm they are doing to the planet and the further damage behind using mako. But at the same time its like real life, power company's and governments know the damage they are doing, but they only get away with it because WE keep using there energy.

What i'm saying is Shinra can only destroy the planet as far as the consumers let them. Its the dam populations fault more than anyone.

And to everyone being negative leave it out. whats the point in a forum if the only threads answered properly are those only a handful of people happen to agree with? Have some respect dudes.

Rufus could have hidden them at any point, but instead chose to keep them on his person and reveal them right in front of Kadaj. He may not have handed them over but he certainly gave them a dam good easily avoidable oppertunity to get them.

Also if i remember just moments before that, or in a previous conversation he refers to all the havoc going on and Kadaj's gangs plan as 'the most fun hes had in a while' or words to that effect. He seemed pleased Kadaj was being a gargantuan cock head. So i dont think he personally was trying to sort out anything! I think the Turks were tho, the jenova cells being kept on his person was all down to him personally.

just mho! =)

No, they didnt hand over the cells, Rufus threw them over the edge and wasn't aiming for Kadaj to catch them :P

And as i just fucking said he had any oppertunity to hide them miles underground or burn them or secure them, and he decided to show them right in front of Kadaj and his gang when he has only 2 turks for protection. That coupled with the fact he tells Kadaj this is the most fun hes had in ages shows he is just playing games and not acting in the best interest of the planet. He even fucking smiles when hes falling from the building and shoots the box open, as he said he was enjoying it! Yeah he was really upset that he just jeopardised the whole god damned planet. He was obviously just making the cells game for anyone, Clouds team or Kadaj's.

Fucker if you wanna disagree with me good, lets talk, but for fucks sake dont use an argument ive just ripped in a previous post.

This is a simle discusion as to whether Rufus/Shinra were trying to help or not.

So what is it about rufus's dialogue that is 'obviously flawed on a fundamental level'.....? im very curious for your input

Prak
07-17-2006, 05:08 PM
What I mean is that you're scrambling to find a deeper meaning in a situation that would have had it explained if such a thing existed. Any writer worth a damn would have made mention of such a thing if it was as you suggest, simply because character motivation is one of the most important things to understand in a given scenario. The fact that it is not mentioned implies that it was merely inconsistent writing and has no deeper meaning.

TeknoBlade
07-17-2006, 09:29 PM
Not at all. Most people enjoy figuring things out for themselves instead of being told what exactly happened, and writers are giving their readers a chance to do that. And if everything was spelled out exactly as the writers intended in Final Fantasy games, there would hardly be any discussion over them and the games would die. It's not a fundamental flaw as much as it is a controversial topic with implied meanings intentionally left unexplained to benefit the series.

Prak
07-17-2006, 09:42 PM
Figuring things out for themselves is all well and good, but it's pretty clear that this is simply a case of inconsistent writing, where the character's actions are written around the needs of the story with no regard to the character's nature.

As I explained before, character motivation must always be understood. It's a general rule of writing. Look anywhere, even in FFVII, and you can always tell what the motives are for a character to perform a given action. An action taken without a motive for it is bad writing. To not give the motive if one exists is bad writing because it removes the context from a character's actions.

To see how to properly handle chaaracter motivations, I'd point you to another work of popular fantasy: the Harry Potter series. Snape's motives are still not known for sure, but hints about them have been dropped. They often conflict each other, but it gives people fuel for arguments over the character's nature. In the end, the character's true nature and motives will be revealed, however, as they should be. (Please do not contest this particular analogy, as this is not a Harry Potter discussion. It is merely an analogy to illustrate a point.)

Also, your comment about everything not being spelled out to create discussion is easily dispelled by pointing out the existence of the Ultimania guides, which explain pretty much every detail of the more ambiguous games. That clearly shows that they weren't made to be ambiguous at all.

Awesome_Bryan

And what is not mentioned Prof. Prak? As far as i can tell i have only reffered to actual events in the film and parts of Rufus's dialogue, and what my natural conclusion to that is!

I doubt the story is so simple that Shinra could ever be called 'Good' or 'Evil'.

Because even during the ff7 game they try to destroy meteor by launching Cid's rocket at it.
And they use the 'sister ray' to... either kill weapon or kill sephiroth, i forget which.

And remember avalanche bomb reactors, so are they good? are Shinra bad?

you will never get a definite conclusion to that answer.
