Hey guys! I'm not new to the site but i just registered so I figured my first post should be a doosey.

WTF were they thinking when they did the english overdubs?! I saw the Japanese version first via dvd rip from a buddie in Japan, and I thought to myself, NOW THAT HAS TO BE BEST DAMN MOVIE I'VE EVER SEEN!!!

Then a few months l8r, my lil brother gets the english vers. on dvd and five mins into the movie I'm already pissed. "DILLY-DALLY SHILLY-SHALLY"?!---------thats all I have to say. Btw, did n e one notice that Reno's voice was Raiden from MGS2? Just curious. ..........................DILLY-DALLY SHILLY-SHALLY!!!!!!! WTF?!

Kind of agree with Prak. But I do agree with you that the "dily daly" shit was pretty queer. Why do they add that shit? Were they trying to be cute? Was it a joke? Am i suppose to laugh when tifa says that? AC was the perfect example of what enix produces when they don't try

They were trying to imitate the Japanese version which was something along the lines of 'buru buru buru buru". Really, even though it sounds utterly ridiculous there wasn't much that could be done. They had to fill it with something that was at least remotely similar to the original...

wow what a lame rant, the english dubs were destined to be pretty bad guys.
If you look at the quality of the film you can see it was made to mouth all the words REALLY well, that said, its like dubbing a real japanese film...the mouth wont match!
and about the dilly dally thing, i also think it was unavoidable, it goes to show that you really need to learn the language to understand it because somethings are untranslateable

Wasnt a review, eh-hem *clears thoat*. It was an opinion on a movie this topic was about, as far as mindless ranting, dont read it if u dont like it. Its not the Japanese that suck at being funny, they changed just about the whole movie dialoge, and horribly at that, thats all. I personally think Japanese ppl are a hell of alot funnier than the Brits. MOST EXTEME ELIMINATION is all I have to say about that.

Ah hem *clears throat* This forum is made for proper discussion of AC not just throw away comments. Not doing so means that you are going against the site rules. Suggest reading them like everyone else. Of course you can ignore the advice if you want but if you do don't be suprised if this thread gets closed by a mod in the very near future

Why bring 'The brits' into this?

I would like to one day see something given an British version of a dubbed show rather than an American version.

The dub was fairly bad but at least they didn't try to lip sync. I know it looks poor when their mouths don't match up, but at least it gives the script writers a little more room rather than having to match the syllables.

Total agreement on this one, I more or less was reffering to Monty Python, ect.....Shawn of the Dead was an exception. As far as Brit tranlation of a film, there would b no point, we would still need another tranlation, then back to square one.

I think AC was decent and I enjoyed it, but yes, I think the English voicework was very shoddy. The only character who I feel was voiced well, was Aerith.

I don't understand, Japanese Studio Ghibli films receive the best of the best dubbing from Disney. Why couldn't AC have the same treatment. Couldn't Square fork out some money?

The voice acting in Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children English version is quite bad compared to the Japanese version of the film. Luckily, even in the english version of the film, you're able to switch between Japanese and English modes. That Steve Burton guy is a good actor for Cloud, but I'm not so sure about Sephiroth's voice, it had no drama or feeling to it.

..dilly dally shilly shally...

'Dilly dally' isn't the most common of phrases but it's pretty much in use in Brit society. Usually shouted at kids who aren't getting a move on ("Stop dilly dallying and get your shoes on!" - for example =)). As for the 'shilly shally' bit, I have no clue. I suppose they had to translate it one way or another and that was the best they came up with. You have to remember the context it was used in though. I doubt even the English language has something that works in that situation, nothing that springs to mind anyway. :-\ Overall, I think the dub was excellent.

I didn't really care much for the English version of it because I knew it wouldn't be all that good due to the fact that the voices have to somewhat match the mouths and that's not possible much unless it's anime...So I stuck with the original Japanese better. I couldn't wait for that to come out in English but then after I saw it in English I hated it. But now I'm used to it...I do like the Japanese version a lot more than the English due to those reasons. Another reason I didn't like the English voices that much were due to the fact that Loz's English voice was terrible. Zack's was good. I liked Zack's flashback a lot in that movie. But also Yazoo sounded a bit girlie in that movie. Also Kadaj didn't have the same grasping effect as his Japanese counterpart did...So I was a bit angry. Some parts were rediculous and yes Dilly-Dally-Shilly-Shally was a very dumbline but who can help it now. I originally watched a DVD rip from downloading it way before it hit America on DVD and UMD.

I hated the English dub. I hate most if not all English dubs. Except for the 36 chambers. They forever ended up recycling the same voice actors. The main one hated was the guy who did Leonardo's voice on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He had too much credit. The only voice actor I dug who did animations was David Hayter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Hayter). The voice of the infamous Solid Snake.

In my opinion, we, as english gamers, get gyped when it comes to squares projects. We get them later, and its kind of distacting that the lips are in sync with the japaneese words, even though we are hearing them in english.
