The drummer of a band is often over-looked and under-appreciated. Who for you is the best? For me it's a toss-up between Alan White and John Henry Bonham, just listen to any Oasis song as an example of Alan White. Bonham? What needs to be said about him? Brilliant and he died a true rock 'n roll death. Also, Keith Moon(The Who), Stuart Copeland(Police), Ren(Stone Roses), Nick Mason(Pink Floyd) and John Densmore(The Doors) deserve mentions too.

xD I saw that on tv. Yeah, he's good, but there's no doubt that technically Travis Barker is one of the best.

I can't actually play any of his stuff. Even while air drumming.

He has such insane bass drum placements, in particular.

Also, TC you should watch Fearless Freaks. There are some cool Drozd solos in there that are like : orgasm:

Because I've got quite a few blues drummers that would beat half these guys in technique, style, and originality.

Yeah I'd definitley say Martin Lopez is one of the best (he shits all over Travis Barker) and Opeth's new drummer Martin Axenrot is pretty good. Also, Flo Mounier from Cryptopsy and George Kollias from Nile are two of the most amazing drummers I've heard.

Quite right. For me speed is not the most important thing. A drummer that flows along with the rhythm of the song, and adds to it is far more important. Speed is irrelevant in my eyes.

If you don't know who he is (which you whippersnappers probably don't!) he's the set drummer for the Bobby Torres ensemble (http://www.bobbytorres.com/index.php). I doubt any of the guys you've mentioned could keep a perfect clave (or referse clave) with left foot, while playing bass drum with right foot, traditional set stuff with right hand, and a bunch of additional bells and shit wih left hand. Seriously, that guy defines beastly drummer.

Mike Portnoy's great, I don't like Dream Theatre much but the guy does some stuff.

Of course the classics: Bonham, Keith Moon, Neil Pert (may be a misspell, I don't like RUSH either.)

And I'm going to have to say Jack Irons. Pearl Jam, y'know. Gotta love it.
The guy from Aerosmith (lol, I'm informed) for Walk this Way, best beat ever.

Aaaand Jeremy Colson. From Steve Vai's band. Just my opinion but Vai's the best.

EDIT: Wow I'm a space cadet. Didn't even realize I put so many up there. Oh well, I'm Indecisive.

I say Mike Portnoy or Danny Carey. I prefer Tool over Dream Theater though.. But my FAVOURITE drummer would have to be Brian Viglione from The Dresden Dolls. He isn't really that special on the drums.. But I like his style.. And damn is he attractive!

My choices would have to be Neil Peart (Rush) and John Fishman (Phish) .. what other drummer can play a vacuum cleaner? An honorable mention goes out to Rick Allen (Def Leppard).

I think that the best drummer can be found only in jazz, jazz-rock and jazz-fusion.

I mean, Dave Weckl's technique is far away upon all those rock drummer. More than that he's got an original sound and rhythm.

In the same way are Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez, Steve Gadd, Billy Cobham, Terry Bozio (with Zappa), Harvey Mason.
In a more traditionnal jazz, like big band, i would say that Gene Kruppa, Buddy Rich or Louie Bellson brought a lot of techniques and styles in drumming.

Best rock drummers to me are Jeffrey Porcaro and Stewart Copeland who really brought something new in drumming in the eighties.

Mike Portnoy. He isn't visually appealing but he is by far the most experienced. A defined graduate along with his members of Dream Theater from the Berklee college of music. A lot of his music has influenced memes in DCI and WGI. He is very well rounded and his music is very atriculate and clear. He doesn't sound forced. Which is a very nice asset in percussion.
