I own a copy of FFVIII and I only played through the first disk. I'm not sure if I should continue playing it because of all the trash I hear about what is to come.

So inform me, what is good about this game?
Should I press on?

Why you care what people say? Play the game, the reason it is made is to have fun, so have fun! Then you will have your own opinion. To give you an example, i love ff9 when other people think its a redicilus game with a monkey for main character. So you will see people thinking its an excellent game and people who think it sucks like hell.

I personally think im going to start playing ff8 over again as i had stopped.

what do you mean should you press on? of course you should! if you liked it so far why would you stop? you don't need to 'know' anybody elses opinions. roki is right, play the game and have some fun.

I feel the game is better at the start, however it's more than good enough to play through to the end.
Ive never actually finished it though, i can't be bothered with that damn last castle thing.

This is my favorite FF game ever. And you shouldn't go by what others say. Form your own opinion after playing the game. Some guy told me this was better when I was buying FFVII, and I was like "ok". But when I played it, I too liked it better. So, it's all about how you feel about it. For me, there was a lot of traits that Squall has that I can relate to, unlike Cloud. And I just enjoyed the story more, but FFVII also has an awesome storyline as well. It's all about preference and everyone has their own.

FF VII is better, try that first. FF VIII as an incredibly gay battle system

Joey

I have played FFVII more times than I can count.
Out of the entire series (except III) VIII is the only one I have never finished.

This may be asking for too much but I meant don't just say "Yeah that game is cool."

But give specific examples from the game as to why it was cool.

Small question: is your avatar you? J/W
*Anyways*
I personally thought FF8 was better than FF7, I just could relate to the story more than FF7. I love the story, the end is ........ well, completly a "drama" ending. I love the fact you can go to different places/areas to get GFs. I always found that a blast. ( just in case you didnt know: Bamuhat is located on an island (?) southwest on the map, you'll need the airship to locate it. Card game is by far my favorite mini game, you should ( when you reach it)
play the queen of cards sidequest. Other than that, it's well worth it to finish the game. The story gets better as the game progresses.

Stop saying shit like that. The entire reason for asking the opinion of other people is to get an idea what you're in for if you try something. Perhaps this person does not want to spend money on a game he/she may not like at all and wants to hear from other people first. In that case, the only posts that will actually be helpful are those that very clearly list the good and bad points of the game, as well as thoughts on how likely they are to like it.

i think he bought the game.. as he's finished the first disc. right?

i think the main reason people play FF is for the story. though sometimes thin, the story still kept my attention and made me look forward to what was ahead. FF8 has possibly the most developed LOVE story... though kinda too lovy dovy teenager love - but it's still a good story.

You should play it you already got through the first disk, the rest runs smoothly and you'll barely realize it's a four disk game ( that's a good thing it's not too short). The story actually starts to come out in the second disk it's not just mindless dreams of sis' and crazy mechanical spiders. The strory gets more interesting you learn from your past, the limit breaks get lengthier, and the story gets more magically oriented. I'm sorry I can't tell you more at risk of spoiling the game and it's been too long to remember why the game was soo great.

The only thing I thought that would be considered as a downfall is....dunno. Anyway, I like this game way better than FFVII. But you would do best to just finish what you started. The storyline is awesome. Some people don't like the draw system, but I thought it was awesome.

You could say that but once again the games true value is in the eye of the beholder. Don't buy a game if you just hear it's god not all people have the same preferences. And you say that now but, what recent FF plot twist was better than this one.

You've only hit that proverbial nail squarely upon its head. However, I personally like the graphics--they're not spectacluar by any means, but they do the job.
