The monster arena, if you've got enough gil and know how to take advantage of various monsters and abilities

You could also try inside Sin. Most of the fiends there give just about as much AP as fiends from the Omega Ruins.

You could also try inside the Dome in Zanarkand; even though, only the machina enemies give any decent amount of AP.

Are you familiar with the Overdrive-AP trick?

You need weapons with three empty slots. On them, you put Overdrive-->AP, Double or Triple AP, and Double or Triple Overdrive. Triple AP and Overdrive is ideal, but may be harder to get.

Then you make sure you've acquired the Jumbo Cactuar in the Monster Arena. Set stoic as your overdrive mode, and let him just blast the hell out of you. Don't hit him. Defend every turn, casting Life or using Phoenix Down to bring characters back to life as necessary, until the cactuar becomes disgusted with your incompetence and runs away. Jumbo Cactuar is safe for this method of leveling up because he has one attack if unprovoked. Switch out characters mid-battle so that they can get field time.

You'll walk out with about 20 AP points, average. Make sure you have an excess amount of Power, Speed, Mana, and Ability spheres. I've done this and run completely out before.

its easier if you get AP weapons(Triple overdrive, Overdrive to AP, and triple AP), have one person with really low hp, ie less than 1000 if possible, who has killed loads and loads of fiends, then attack the Don Tonberry in the Monster Arena. Have the low HP on stoic, and the others on Comrade, and each time the low HP attacks the tonberry, it does Karma which hopefully does 50,000+ damage on the attacker. this kills the person with low HP, but if the others are available, quickly cast life, and Haste on the low HP and they'll be able to attack again. this should be enough to get those in the battle 99 sphere levels.

Yeah, but the cactuar runs away, so that you're not escaping from battle with no AP. Unless you mean to kill the Tonberry, which takes a while if you're not breaking damage limit yet.

But even if you arent BDL on your AP weapons, when its too close to be of any worth for AP (ie, it no longer does Karma after it advances 5 times i think), change to celestial, or any BDL weapons thats a few hits at 99,999 then it dies but if you dont have BDL like you suggest, but if your in haste and have all strong character (doing 9,999)then it doesnt take long anyway regardless of whether you're breaking damage limit, but overdrives may be useful.

But imo, if you dont have any weapons that can break damage, you shouldnt really be bothering trying to max stats cause you'll end up with a load of streangth, and magic, but are being held back by that factor anyway, but thats just my opinion

I have BDL on most of the celestial weapons, it's BHPL that I'm needing badly. While I could probably level up my characters' strength and magic until they do get theirs powered up, I don't think those extra points will be wasted, just stored until I can use them. But as for BHPL, I'm pretty sure that it's use it or lose it.

BHPl is the same as BDL, as long as you have stuff equiped with these abilities, then if your stats allow, you can break the limit, you remove them, you're stuck at 9,999, you put the stuff back on, you break the limit once again (but HP will need healing :P).

But to further my point, I personally beleive it is pointless maxing out stats when you cant see the benefits. Get BHPL and BDL before you do this kind of stuff so you can feel the satisfaction of watching your people grow. Of course if you'd rather max stats and for hundreds of battles only have hp 9999 and attack 9999, then switch to the break limits before some big important battle so you can feel like your the man, or woman, when you see you characters doing badass damage, whatever, its your preference, but i feel thats pointless
