There are several things about Final Fantasy 7 which were excellent, but there were also some elements to it which should have been different. I have several things I would change, but what about you? Post some of the things you would change about FF7 here.
I would:
-Fix the few glithces in the game.
-Put better character graphics for the world map and locations.
-Make materia slightly easier to level up.
-Add some more minigames and side quests, even though there are
already lots.
-Change the Chocobuckle Enemy skill to its Japanese function
instead of it's North American function.
-Make Ultima Weapon easier to find on the world map.
-Make all non-CG cutscenes into CG cutscenes

There are probably more things I would change, but I can't think of them right now. Please post your thoughts here.

It was not meant to continue at the time, so that counts as its ending reagrdless of any additions that have since been made. And it thoroughly sucked.

Even though this is becoming more and more of the usual debate over whether or not FF7 is good, and further and further from the original topic, I'm going to join in: FF7 is not a bad game. The graphics may suck and there may be some glitches, but the storyline rocks and so does the gameplay.

I stand with Prak. The storyline is full of holes and the "ending" is pretty bad. The graphics don't really count against it. The gameplay is O.K. but quite a bit repetitive.

I actually believe that X-2 was by far the easiest, but i havent played any of the classics except IV so i cant really comment overall, but out of the ones i've played, VII was the second easiest and least interesting

no offence, but looking at the guide by no lengths of the imagination qualifies an opinion on a series of games, the guides i feel are often flawed and never portray how good a game is. By all means, have the opinion that VII is a good game, but dont claim that its the best in the series unless you have played the whole series.

You should be able to get them from Gamestop or Ebay easily. Any reputable local gaming store should at least have a copy of FFVIII, FFIX, FFX, and FFX-2. Or you might even get lucky and find the FFX and FFX-2 at a departement store. FFV and FFVI come toghether in Anthologies. Shouldn't be too hard to find those either.
EDIT: Yes, unbelievable. Almost scary. I might get it if they plan to close up the enormous plot holes and give a decent storyline.

Well, I have a friend who's parents work with whoever made the FF series. I said they were going to but that changed when the other company they were working with wanted to change the storyline. Let's face it, they're pretty proud with FFVII and they don't want to change it. I heard Advent Children was a big success though.

Personaly my Fav FF are 7 and 9.Even if i played all FF(and finished them :o) i think FF 9 with classic FF storyline is the best......In my opinion:)

The classics are definately the best. Although VIII is pretty good too in my opinion.

I enjoyed playing FF7 alot overall but the one thing I found a pain about it was all the time it took me to get all the chocobo breeding sorted out for when I got the Knights of The Round summon. Not because I found it hard, but because for me it made the game really drag, after the hours i'd already spent on it, towards the end.

That is the one thing I would have changed.

What would I change?

1) The fact that Cloud Strife is a lawsuit on heroes waiting to happen.

His reaction to Aeris' death is so wimpy. He should have been like, "NOOOOO!!! @#$# you, you #@@#$#! You killed Aeris!!! DIEEEE!!!" But instead he was so...complacent with it all. Cloud is a not a good case for blonds. He constantly needs women (Aeris and Tifa) to take care of him. It SHOULD be the other way around. Why do people think he's the greatest anyway? Because he takes down Sephiroth? Apparently he didn't do such a hot job; Sephiroth comes back in AC, I've heard.

2) The fact that Sephiroth (whom I love; don't think I don't) has mommy issues with an octopus, and that he has the STUPIDEST take-over-the-world plan ever.

So, he'll absorb the lifestream as it flows above the earth (which will be really funny considering that Sephy would have been deep underground keeping Holy at bay when the Meteor hits) Now, how does he know that he's going to be able to absorb all that energy? How's he going to be in the center of all that energy if the energy is heading toward Midgar and he's at the Crater, deep underground, holding back Holy.

Kefka didn't NEED a lousy Meteor; he just raised his little finger and blasted the world with the Ray of Judgement whenever he felt like it.

3) The transition from calm, cool, intelligent Sephiroth to the biggest fruitcake that ever lived.

"I am the chosen one! Chosen to rule this planet! Ha, ha, ha!" There's no real explanation for it. I laughed my head off when I first saw that part. "Oh, he went nuts because he found out he was an experiment..." doesn't cut it for me. As smart as they were making him out to be, he probably would sought a second opinion rather than those old books, maybe even Hojo. If there was a part in the game that say that Jenova had driven him insane by speaking things into his mind while he was in Nibelheim or something, I'd buy it. But there's no such explanation.

4) How in the heck did Barret get a gun arm?

The only people who have guns throughout the whole game are Shinra people. Black market? How did he get the money while on the run from Shinra? This is just a little thing, I understand, but it nags at my mind.

5) Spirit energy

I guess it's because of my religious beliefs, but the whole "souls of the planet are the lifestream" just kind of weirds me out. Call me prudish, but it would have been a lot more comfortable if the Mako had just been an energy source.

6) Vincent Valentine's alteration

What DID Hojo do to Vincent to make him change into monsters when he's mad, like the Incredible Hulk? Did he inject Jenova cells? Was it some other demented serum? The game never says.

7) And yes, the ending.

Or lack thereof. I was so disgusted. The ending went downhill after Sephiroth "died" for the fourth time. They HAD to make Advent Children, because there were so many holes in the game. That, and everyone likes Sephiroth.

Why don't they use all that lovely money to make a live-action trilogy of FFVI, or FFVII (revised) or Chrono Trigger? Sigh...

Firstly, the secondary issue: FF8 was my first. 9 was my second, and 7 was my third rpg games. 8 rocked. 9 rocked. 7 rocked. they were all balls fun. then i played 4. rocked. played 1 and 2, rocked. played 10. rocked. played 5 and 6. rocked and rocked. played a rom of 3. rocked. still don't know what an onionkid is, but it still rocked. So as someone who liked the game:

-I would not have aeris(th) die bloodless. Not gory, but I didn't really catch on to what happened there till the music came up. I mean, he basically filletted her spine, or WOULD HAVE if he didn't hold the sword with the edge towards himself, which is darwin award material. She must have been praying on her stomach to get wounded like that.
-SENSE OF SCALE on the world map. Highwind circuited the globe in something like ten seconds.
-the people of Junon would live in cleaned out shell casings from that big gun.
-No more SD characters.
-the ability to switch cloud out of the party, for level up purposes (I may have this annoyance confused with 8)

This point isnt really that important as the characters not in your party level up as your party does, granted not as fast, but they still level up, which really bugged me. I would also change this so that characters level up through training and not sitting around doing nothing all the time, as it also hinderd my materia growth cos i could not be bothered to raise my materia if my characters werent being raised as well.

It was the 'achieving final limit break' thing that eventually irritated me, i think. I was in that submarine fighting battle after battle trying to get cids.

I kind of liked the Limit Break thing.

I found it kind of odd that Materia was something that could be purchased in every town everywhere. In other games, like FFVI, FFVIII, and FFIV, magic is special and something to be attained. In FFVII, you could buy magic at your local drug store. It's so common I wonder why local thieves bother to use knives and daggers when they could be using materia.

And the whole "scientific" explanation of "magic" took the fantasy out of "final fantasy" and made it "final science fiction". Just another little qualm of mine.

My opinion on the game has changed somewhat since the last time I posted an answer to the thread question so here's my update.

I'd make the villain more original, give the characterisation more depth (i'd probably get rid of Yuffie and Barret altogether but give Vincent and Cait Sith larger roles in regards to the story events) and change some of the music. Not all of it was bad but some of it really made me grit my teeth when I listened to it lol.

I'd also like the villain to have something else going on other than the mother complex.

I wish they would stop walking into cloud and using him as a mode of tranport.

You know, I would probably not change much of it.

1) better translation.
2) auto running (so you don't have to hold X all the time)
3) give cloud a personality.
4) battle engine overhaul.
5) work out a proper ending and leave it at that (no advent children)

I'd like to state now that i think the graphics are fine. I would never say they suck, I can see they are pretty poor nowadays and wern't the best even when the game was released (resident evil did prerendered graphics with decentish 3d models.)
And the fmv's were certainly better than most psone games of the time.

Yeah, you can't fairly compare them that way since FFVI had no FMVs originally and they were thrown into the Anthologies version almost as an afterthought.

I would change the god-awful midi they used for the soundtrack. I think the music in FFVII would be a lot better without the harmonica choir of a brass section coming in out of tune and ruining what few good moments there were in the game.

It took getting used to, but stuff like "KOTR, Mime", and "Mega-All, Ultima, Quadra Magic" just ruined the game's whole balance.

Wrong. If there had been FMVs right in the middle of VI it would have ruined the game. VI was made for the SNES, and putting FMVs in the middle of a 16-bit wonder would be absurd.

Besides, FFVI is such an outstanding game, it doesn't need FMV's to dress it up.

Unlike most of the following games, VI didn't rely on sexy female characters and trimmed guys. In VI it's the personality, not the chest.

Actually I am. Unlike the previous games, a lot of people were turned off by the amount of estrogen. The game was fun and fresh. Something Square seemed to have left behind. That's all it need to hook me.

Personally I felt Midgar was the best part of the game, it actually felt like it was going to be a good storyline. After that when you leave, it starts falling; the game is still enjoyable but there's so much fault and plotholes with the storyline. Don't get me started on the ending...

Back on topic, if I Could improve some things it would be:
1) Improve the battle engine.
2) Fill in the plotholes.
3) Go into more depth about each character.
4) Add some more sidemissions.
5) What the hell were the thinking with Ultima Weapon, making him fly for a half hour before he finally picks his destination? That was just tedious.
6) The 'Super Weapons'. Make them fair, as in possible to defeat with use of normal materia etc., and not this KOTR/Omnislash/mime-combo whoring. Meh, maybe I just haven't tried enough strategies at beating them, but these seem to be the only ways to beat them.
7) Gold Chocobo for beating Ruby Weapon? What?
8) The translation was terrible.

And maybe a few more things that I can't really remember right now, it's been a while...
