And by planning, I obviously mean pre-ordered last millenium.

I know in my mind that it's not that fantastic a console, but my "HAVE-TO-HAVE-THE-LATEST-GAMING-THING"-itis is setting in. So my question is this: does anyone have any reports as to whether the X360 has region coding? I heard rumblings from Sony that the PS3 will be region-free, so...

Hopeless optimism I know, but still, if you hear any news, please post it here :(

Microsoft announced at the Tokyo Game Show that it would be region coded. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Not until March next year.

I can't believe I'm agreeing with him, I have absolutely no interest in the Xbox 360.

Australian release solidified.

March 2nd ;_;

And the premium pack is AU$650. That's US$477, which is ridiculous. How can there be US$80 additional costs in releasing it in Australia? I'd import, except i'd get hit with custom fees and shipping - not to mention that i'd have to import all my games :(

So yeah. 99 days and counting.

I love the marketing campaign here in the US.

"More powerful than teh Xbox, MORE POWERFUL THAN THE PS2!!!111"

I wish to god someone would ask them what the fuck they're going to say when the PS3 comes out.

Some dude from Microsoft says that the Xbox 360 will be able to compete graphically with the PS3!

Prak
11-23-2005, 12:51 AM
It probably will. Think about how much power is needed to render perfectly photorealistic graphics. Both systems probably have it, so they're both overkill. I figure the only difference will wind up being that the PS3 can display more frames per second, which is a moot point when the Xbox 360 can already display more than the human eye can perceive.

frames per second is relative. If a game is taxing it'll be made to run go at 20-30 fps and have slowdown just like every other system.

Prak
11-24-2005, 03:20 PM
Of course it's relative, but the new consoles have enough power, statistically speaking, to display insane framerates on pretty much any game. I can't imagine any kind of slowdown occurring as long as the games are coded well. I could be wrong, so you're welcome to point it out if so.

Personally, I like the Xbox 360. It has very good graphics, cool games, and awesome controllers.

I'll say it directly. Fuck Halo 3.

The Halo (like nearly all console shooters) series have always been very pale in comparison to their PC FPS brethren.

It's still fun to gather up a bunch of the guys and go play a nice Deathmatch game on Halo 2 in your living room, sitting in front a big-screen television.

Here`s what i think of the Halo series so far. :)

I got the first game free with my xbox and not being a fan of FPS games i didn`t think much of it. But when i played it, it was one of those great feelings that happen rarely in a gaming life. Although the single player was exciting and refreshing i thought that co-op with someone, in this case my brother, was simply thrilling. I realy felt a great sense of teamwork and interaction, something that online play can`t compete with.

When Halo 2 came out i was pumped, i bought the special edition for 70 euro and i tried to like it. But for some reason it felt different, very different. I can`t realy explain it but it lost some magic that still exsists in the original.

Online gaming can have more of that than you probably realize, and on a much grander scale. I remember back in my days playing Tribes, my clan would meet for practice twice a week. We'd kick each other's asses, practice our moves and coordination, and generally have a great time. When it came time for matches and we had to be all business, our teamwork had been polished to perfection. I don't think there's any thrill quite like meeting at the midway point in a map and executing a high speed flag pass (throwing it to the other guy as he comes up from behind you going three times as fast as you are) half a mile in the air.

Things like that are why I can never enjoy games like Halo.

Very true, but let`s just say that for the year that i`ve had broadband i`ve never realy enjoyed online gaming. I`d love an MMORPG but currently can`t afford to online fees. I do have Guild Wars but quickly got tired of it.

Yeah, online gaming has really slipped lately. All the novelty is gone and there's nothing really new to bring the shine back to it.

Microsoft's confidence in Halo 3 is absurd. The vast majority of people who play Halo 2 on Xbox Live are probably 19-25 year olds, who only go on there to shout obscenities when they 'punked ur ass n00b'. I got pretty tired of how people acted online. They act immature, as if they've never played a real game in their life before. Heck, it wouldn't surprise me if that's the first shooter game they have ever played. Period. Something would have to explain why so many of them act the way they too. Behavior like that really turned me off from playing the game online. And let's not forget, that the Halo series was nothing to shout at to begin with.

I don't know anything about the technical stuff involved, and I hardly pay attention to video games at all these days anyway, but nothing I have seen in the way of Xbox 360 graphics has been even close to looking "perfectly photorealistic." Not even the best movie CG has accomplished that yet; I kind of doubt either of these systems will be able to.

Isn't this how it is in PC online games too? Since most of the market is probably the annoying people who want to "punk" you, I doubt it's going to have much of an impact on sales. Since the first two Halos were their best-selling games, I don't think they really are being overconfident about the third. =/

I said the consoles are capable of it, not that the people making the games are.
