Ya know, I've read a lot of negative comments about this game in different websites and forums. Well today I picked up the demo included with DQVIII (yes, i bought the game just for the demo), and you know what?

I LOVE THIS GAME! the style is a cross between FFVI, FFXI and FFT (VI and T being my 2 all time fav FF games). The music is awsome, even when you summon your esper the music changes to this really awsome, orchastrated, midevil music. The graphics are beautiful, especialy the detail on your characters and when you're fighting Bombs. And the battle system, Just like FFXI but more action packed. I really don't mind them taking out the ATB from the other games, this demo was just hella fun for me to play. I think when the final version comes out we're all gonna know it's a FF when we play it. Well I'll let you all rip this review a new one (if you didn't like the demo), but I'm gonna go play the demo again.

Just out of interest, what parts made you think of Final Fantasy VI? FF6 had the second best storyline in the series imo (after FF10), so if you say style and plot development my want for this game is going to increase 10billionfold.

Also: Dragon Quest VIII has no Australian release date yet, so no FF12 demo joy for us :(

Can you also give us more info on the battle system? (Yes I know I'm a little crazy about the battle system that's why I made a thread about it) Please. :) I read somewhere that when you summon you can only use the summon for a short period of time then it disappears after a time bar runs out. Is this true? JUST TELL ME EVERYTHING YOU KNOW!
Also which did you like better DQVIII or the demo? :D

the fact that you bought a masterpiece of an RPG just for the demo that comes with it defines you as a cunt. thanks.

also, ffxii is fun. i honestly can't think of anything i would compare it to, it's pretty damn unique and the battle system is a blast. first time i've been excited about an FF in a long time.

The battle system interests me so I'll play it when it's released (not going to buy DQVIII), but if it has another shit villain, I swear I am never going to play an FF game again.

I can't compaire storyline yet because they don't give enough of it in the demo. Only what's explained in the FMV which includes some diologe between characters that you can find here. http://www.ff12.com/top.html but what is there looks very interesting.
It's more of a familior style with FFVI. there's not a whole lot but somehow I feel it. Sorry if it sounds awfuly veigh (i think that's how you spell it)

It's just like FFXI except you have 3 characters. you have full control of the main one who's the "leader" and your other 2 are kinda automatic, but you do have access to there command menu as well. when you approch an enemy, you target it and select what command you want. once you attack, that bar on the left side of the menu fills up just like other FF games to show you're ready to attack again, but just like XI, you'll continue with the next attack unless you give your character a different command. I havn't played DQVIII yet because it was getting late last night and I wanted to save it for later today when I can saver as much at one time as I can. But I did play the DQ demo from the playstation magazine and must say it was fun. My only complaint was the enemies are too "poke-e-mon" like.
As for the summons. When you command one, you do your little summon dance with awsome magic effects. you 2 other characters dissapear but you have this deep, midevil, haunting music in the BG and the screen goes a bit darker. It's kinda like you're viewing the game as a dark dream. It's hella awsome. You have to see it for yourself. You summon followes behind you. And yes, you have a limited time before it goes away and game play resumes back to normal.

To be honest with you, I 100% agree with you. However it was my fault for emphysising so much on "only buying it for the demo". I'm new to DQ and understand it is a masterpiece based on the stats and popularity of reliable sources. however I also took it apon myself to look more into it to see for myself. Which is the reason why I got last months Official Playstation Magazine with playable demo so I can see it for my self. And based on that demo, it helped me decide if paying $50 is worth it.

The battle system in FFXII really shows a huge diff between "Wait" and "Active."

Basically with how FFXI (Eleven: Online) is played, you choose a target, you go up to it and you'll automatically attack. You basically have full control of your character in terms of movement and what abilities/spells you want to do. Now this is where you'll start seeing how "Wait" and "Active" are different. In wait mode, whenever you pull up the command menu (by hitting X), the game will pause. This is kinda like KotOR where the game will pause for you to issue your attacks. In active mode, it plays just like FFXI, which I perfer because I like my action constant. Though there are times where I wish I could access a macro menu of some sort so I can cast spells and stuff faster... maybe in the final version?

I have high hopes in FFXII, I'm really pleased with what I played on the demo and I hope the final game will exceed my expectations.

It's worth it, I'd say. I've got about 11 hours on it over the past 3 days, which is really really fast for me. you just have to be willing to level up a bit at places, well more for cash than levels. shit is expensive, yo. for some reason i don't mind doing it in DQ games. I think its because the battle systems aren't so ps1-era FF-style bloated. It's worth the time if you're willing to put it in, I think.

i didn't care much for the area showcased in the demo. it's basically just the first couple hours of the game.. which really take place before it gets to be any good, IMO. You really should watch your wording though. Paying $50 for a demo while failing to acknowledge how good the game that comes with it is makes you look like a stupid fanboy.

I will say that ZOE really wasn't as great as the demo that came with it (MGS2). Though ZOE2 was much better overall.

That's what I'm going to do anyways. I'll play the demo, then maybe sometime if I get bored, I'll play DQVIII until the day I have to return the game.

Well, for FF6 fans, it actually has a slightly similar story. There is an empire that is overpowering other nations and taking control of them, and there is a group of Air Pirates who fight against them, much like the Returners. Translations of those working on the project have described it as having a more mature and dark storyline than previous games and it is known to take place in the world of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, with several of the races from that game being in it.
I picked up the demo myself and gave it a bit of a run-through. The best way to describe the system is calling it a cross between a normal Final Fantasy ATB and the .Hack games. You have control over the camera angles and can walk around, and when you choose a command, you wait for the ATB to charge and then the action is performed.
