I was playing around with the configruation menu on my PS2 last night and I noticed a couple of options within the Playstation Driver 1.10. There's a choice of Disc Speed --- Standard or Fast and a choice of Texture Mapping --- Standard or Smooth. Mine are both set to Standard, which I would assume is the defeault. Would it improve my gaming any to change either of them?

I remember reading an issue of PSM magazine. There was a letter asking about this subject which is about Disc Speed and Texture Mapping and one of the writers said that it can do damage to your PS2. All I'm saying is that it can, not it will. So just a heads up Agent. :)

And I have no idea if it will help your loading speed at all.

It's not really worth it agent - the improvement isn't really noticable. Your PlayStation games won't suddenly be anti-aliased or anything, and the loading times, while improved, don't really shave that much off.

Of course, it's better with it on - but it doesn't save, so you have to turn it on EVERY DAMN TIME. That means if you want to play a PS1 game, you have to turn your PS2 on without a game in the try, set the options, go to the browser and wait for it to recognise the disc, and go from there. As soon as you turn the power off, it resets to default again.

If it doesn't even save, then screw it. I can definitely live without it. Thanks for the info.

Basically......

Texture Smoothing will blur up the textures to make them look less sharp. Basically smoothing out the rough textures to try to emulate a higher resolution for textures. This works well in some games, barely noticble in other games and sometimes make certain games don't load. Vagrant Story is possibily viewed the best with Texture Smoothing on.

Fast Loading, as it says, decreases the load time. They claim it'll reduce it by 4x but in reality, it feels more like 1.5x or 2x. Some games can produce errors with this like music playing extremely fast.

'K. Again, I think I'll just leave it off because I've never really noticed any problems with my Playstation games.
