In the start of the movie it says 489 or 498 years ago... then you see Reno flying a helicopter and tseng and elena down the northern crater (!?!). that would make them really old by my count when the movie takes place 2 years after the game.

Also later in the movie, you see Reno and Rude fall to the floor and kadaj entering the room, Rufus says to Kadaj "No more lies... they dropped it down when you guys arrived" or something like that. Is it me or is that a really poor sub? what is it that they dropped when Kadaj and the others appeared?

I've Seen the movie a couple of times now, but this these two parts are the only thing i dont really get at all, So any spoilers or help would be appriciated.

I wasn't sure about that either when I watched it.It could mean 500 years from present day in our world- so 500 years earlier than 2005. Even though it is in a different world that world could be evolving in our time.

It doesn't say years ago - it's the current 'year'. And that second part didn't make any sense at all.

thnx for the brief answer Rude666 that really helped. According to one of my friends (the one whom i got the movie from, though only another ripper and not the owner of the subtitles) this is the right theory of the start.

So lets PRETEND that the FF7 events happened in the year 2000....
That means that when the movie starts it is the year 2500....

so.. its the year 2500....
It has Red running yadah yadah yadah.....
Then it says 498 years ago...
This means that when it has Reno in the helicopter...it is the year 2002
2 years after.....the FF7 events...

hmm, so FFVII is 500 years before present day? and the film is 498 years before? seems pretty hard to believe tbh, with all the flashy cell phones, vehicles, and other stuff

Look, at the end of VII it is the present day.
Then it goes 500 years into the future to show that Red XIII is still living and that Midgar is in ruins. Thats the start of AC right.
Then it goes back 498 years, to where Reno is at, at the mountain. So that means it's two years in front of VII at the end

The beginning of AC is actually in the game.... the beginning shows red XIII as a Father... hahha hes so old =) Coz in the game his grandpa tells him that theres still the same kind out there.. so i guess he found a female red xiii and weee they had children

As coz he lives for hundreds of years ... i wish i could live for ova 500 years.... it took him 500 years to have children from when the game finishes... and coz AC is set 2 years afta the game... well u can do the maths
