Hey guys,

yesterday I was battling it out on battlesquare and as the last guy I got this annoying little guy with his lantarn.

I hadn't seen him in ages, since it's been ages since I played battlesquare, but I immediately new I was in trouble.

I unleashed just about anything on him, but forgot to equip KOTR materia.

Needless to say the little guy killed me, but can he be killed?? What kinda damage do I need to do to that guy to stop him??

Never mind,

found on the list that it's a master tonberry. Seems I really need KOTR to knock this guy down before he gets to me.

No, no you do not. Master Tonberry can easily be beaten without KOTR.

Well,

when I was in the battle arena, I didn't have a lotta options left, and I did way over 30k damage to him, but he still got to me.

Tell me how I can beat him so easily?? Do I hafta give him something?? Next time I see him in the last round of battlesquare, believe me that I'll be pounding him with KOTR, just to get back at him for last time. LOL

Just a little thing to point out: it's actually juat a Tonberry. He's not listed in the Bestiary in the back. Master Tonberries are different in that they counterattack with Everyone's Grudge.

Another good strategy for beating Tonberries is Quadra-Magic Ultima.

Fuck off with crap like that, it's really annoying me right now and you're shitting up the forums with it. Hence forth I'll start deleting unrelated posts full with this Aeris shit.

Have a nice day.

Strange thing was, I was in the north crater and I encountered what I thought to be a master tonberry, since it had a star over it's head.

I though they were supposed to give nice AP, but 200 was a bit of a dissappointment to say the least.

Dont diss the Master Tonberry he gives you very nice amounts of EXP and AP

Mega-All, Deathblow, HP Plus Materia (Mastered), Magic Plus Materia (Mastered), Shield/Barrier (Mastered), Cure (Mastered), Omnislash.

That's all you need to kill a Master Tonberry. Plus or minus a few personal effects and nuances.

Well, I had it's AP mixed up with the movers, so I was kinda expecting 1000 AP.

After looking in the list, I saw I made a mistake. :) Too bad they always come alone, those masters, else that would be some nice AP

uh simple

get double cut materia, and level it up to 4X make sure you have the ultima weapon for cloud, He should go down in 2 or 3 rounds.

And that's not the last of it! You can morph him into Ribbons and make all of your characters immune to all status effects. Yes, it is VERY hard to morph Master Tonberries, so hard in fact that the strategy guide doesn't tell you that they morph at all, but I've done it many times.

u can stop or paralyse the tonberries(which makes fight alot easier) then u can simply use deathblow everytime because u cant miss a stoped pr paralyed enemy

I hate morphing, I tried to morph that thing in the underwater reactor that gives you that thing to beat the weapons (plenty of things) about a million times and it never works

Tonberries are evil. But they do give you elixers int he northern crater if you steal from them.Just use KOTR.There hard one on one.

Just...attack them. Use a strong weapon or something. Your cloud can't be too strong if regular tonberrys beat him. KotR is overkill.

Use freeze until he stops use behemut zero or just magic the fuck out of him.

Go in whth CLoud in fury(use a hyper) so his limit fills faster. That way you can save one for him and should have no trouble.

Well if you have the Mime materia and Omnislash, just get his limit up in the field and then use it in the battle arena and mime it over and over again every round (it works best if you have a strong weapon and a ribbon to get rid of status effects like frog).

You got to take off the counter materia because he will mimic that instead of omnislash.

A Tonberry only has between 40,000 and 60,000 HP and been as Cloud is hitting for 9999 with his Ultima Sword then Tonberry should be dead before you know it. If you wanna ensure Cloud is hitting for that amount, load him up with HP plus materia.

If you wanna ensure Cloud is hitting for that amount, load him up with HP plus materia.

...Which you should be doing anyway in the Battle Square.

I never bothered with magic in the Battle Square. I used a lot of yellow and purple materia. I had a Restore on him in case my Yellows got broken and my items were sealed.

Anyway, try an Ultima Weapon, a ribbon, and a decent piece of armor with at least 4 materia slots (6 is ideal, but you can get by on 4).

As for Materia, your necessities are Long Range, Counter (only use multiples if they're all high-leveled), Double-Cut (or Slash-All), Enemy Skill (Beta and White Wind), and Restore. Fill the remaining slots with big HP Plus and Speed Plus Materias. I usually put a MP-Plus in, as well. Time is also a good choice, if you've a free materia slot.

As for the Tonberry, Quadra Magic/Comet2 works better than Quadra/Ultima, since it's just one opponent.

Use Enemy Skill 'Death Force' on yourself and you won't be affected by instant-death.

Well, I have never met one of those guys at the Battle Square, but I have met them in the North Crater. They can be tricky, but with my characters at level 58, I managed to beat him quite easily (with the characters' ultimate weapons). However, sometimes he dealt an instant fatal blow to one of my characters, so I suppose they're much harder in battle arena than in the North Crater. I think stopping or paralyzing him as the others are saying would do the trick though, that is unless your magic has not been broken by one of the handicaps. Grrr...
