I did for the FFVIII characters but for FFIX I was around level 50 ish for all my characters.
However, being at level 100 or 99, not sure which is allowed in FFIX. (I think it is 100) will help ALOT for the Ozma fight. hahaha

Agent0042
10-28-2005, 02:18 AM
99 is the limit, which is why I said it was a neat trick to be at 100. I train my characters to 99, but I'm probably one of the few. I can beat Ozma around 70-80 or so. Kuja/Necron, I dunno, probably could beat him at lower, but once I fight him, the characters are at 99.

nkwp
10-28-2005, 02:28 AM
Well I train my characters to 99 after I have finished the game just for fun. I would like to do that in FFIX but I am not sure about the best places to train. ...hmmm probably mamoria or whatever its called.

Agent0042
10-28-2005, 02:47 AM
The best place to train is the Popo's Heights --- the area where there's the high entrance to Gizamaluke's Grotto (this is where the moogle tells you "don't go outside, it's dangerous, kupo!) Once you have an airship, or a good chocobo, you can head there directly. Wander about the grassy areas to fight nothing but Grand Dragons. Hit Quina's L5 Death ASAP to axe them immediately. This is also a good place to build up Zidane's Thievery. To protect your characters, put Antibody on all, equip stuff that protects against Thunder magic and anything else that raises general defense and evasion. You might wanna have either Eiko or Dagger around at first until Auto-Regen can carry the party. Alternatively, visit Vile Island and fight Yans. However, this isn't nearly as reliable and they're a lot tougher to defeat.

Well, learning abilities helps. I learnt pretty much every ability in the game for every character before I even thought about going into Memoria. (After my experience with FFVIII in Disk 4, I am never going unprepared again).
I also got a gold chocobo and got the ultimate weapon and the Ragnarok (Or whatever its called) So that helped too. And pretty much rammed Kuja and Necron with Shock and Vivi's Black Magic. I used Garnet for healing and stuff.

Oh and thanks for the tip Agent0042, I will try it out. I remember that place, I went up there in disk one cause I thought "What the fuck does a Moogle know, I am going up" and of course got my arse kicked. hahaha.

Well, i used Dagger to cure all, Freya was jumping all the time,Vivi casting Black Magic, Zidane keep attacking, after Kuja been defeated i used Zidane in trance to take Necron's Hp and finished him off with Freya's Cherry Blossom. That's why i said how in hell one trained until level 100 in IX, in VIII i did that in First CD

2) Vivi 47
3) Steiner 45
4) Amarant 38

I don't see why you guys think it was sooooo hard! I beat him first try!

This was on my friends game.... for some reason he likes to have the main character WAY higher in level than the rest..... what a moron! LOL no hes my friend!

But here is my file....
1) Zidane 53
2) Vivi 54
3) Amarant 57
4) Quina 54

Once again... first try! What an easy BOSS! Awesome game though! It wasn't really a disappointment just because of the boss........ :s

damned Yans, i trained with the Grand Dragons until i was about lvl70 by the end of the third disc, dont think they ever killed me cos i was about lvl 30 when i started pounding them (beating the GD's are also useful for building up Freyas dragon crest ability, i killed loads, but wasnt very fond of freyas attacks, then i discovered this one and it was doing 9999 and she was only 70 ish :D ), but when i got on to disc four and went to the vile island, i think i was killed every few battles, even though i always had zidane and dagger who were 99 after a while with them. and they also did virus i think that stopped people from getting points, but thats great if you have two people on the field who are max lvl, more points for the others who were eventually lvl 99 as well.

did anyone notice this, but when you max your characters lvl, they still get exp points added, in VIII dont think they did when you reached 100, and X didnt when you had 99 sphere lvls, so was there any benefit from lvl 99 people getting points?

anyway, in the final battles i used Zidane, Dagger, Vivi and Freya, all lvl 99 with zidane and freya doing 9999 damage each time. i found these battles easy, especially with the skills i had equiped with all their magic stones (one of the reasons i maxed their lvls)

Agent0042
11-18-2005, 06:14 PM
Aurons Ghost, once you have a character that's Level 99, but you want to keep them in your party, you should put them into Virus status. That way they don't continue to gain EXP points and those are spread to characters that do need them instead. There is no benefit to giving characters that are already Level 99 any additional points.

Duality
11-18-2005, 06:20 PM
and they also did venom i think that stopped people from getting points, but thats great if you have two people on the field who are max lvl, more points for the others who were eventually lvl 99 as well.
i did mention that, though probably not as clearly as i'd have liked, sorry. but thanks for confirming that theres no benefit for them anyway:)

Agent0042
11-18-2005, 06:21 PM
Well, you said Venom. I'm not sure, maybe that does the trick too. But I recommend Virus --- it doesn't have the same negative effects as Venom. All it does is stop the EXP and nothing else.

Duality
11-18-2005, 06:27 PM
sorry, i meant virus, but i couldnt remeber what it was called other than it began with a v. now that i think about it, venom is just a worse form of poison it drain hp and mp nd i think it might cause slow as well, but im not sure. thanks for the correction anyway.

Does virus also stop the character getting AP as well?

Agent0042
11-18-2005, 06:30 PM
Not sure, I think so. But if the character's maxed on EXP, odds are they're maxed on AP as well.

Duality
11-18-2005, 06:36 PM
ap's for their abilities so if you maxed while whereing one piece of armour and didnt bother with the others, even if your on max exp and therefore max lvl, when you equip the other armours, ap will still be contributed towards them, unless they're dead or something that stops them getting ap, which suggests that virus might stop ap, but i would apreciate confirmation

Agent0042
11-18-2005, 06:38 PM
Aurons Ghost --- the point I'm trying to get at is that if you've been busy training them for EXP, then you've probably been busy training their abilities too. Unless you didn't have the presence of mind to change out their armor once they learned abilities, in which case, yeah, it would be helpful to know. But I'd have to check, and I don't have access to the game right now.

get reflect x2 and have garnet cast reflect on whoever has the ability equipped, then have vivi cast his strongest spell on that character. that will end the battle quickly

Duality
11-18-2005, 07:53 PM
Agent0042- Not that im trying to be argumentative about this, im just trying to clarify my statement. I do agree with you, if you've been busy training for maxing exp chances are you've trained you're abilities.

I suppose im refering more to when you just start traing with the Yans when you may or may not have some items you havent mastered all the abilites of yet, but it may be less important as chances are you would remedy it, or whatever cures virus, pretty quickly in after the battle, if not in, to allow your characters to gain exp. But this may also have some implications if you maxed before going to memoria and getting equipment unique to hades' synth shop or other stuff like vivi's staff of zeus, which may or not have unmastered abilities, and if your virused, would you get ap for them when you start learning these abilities? (i suppose this is the question i should have asked a few posts ago instead of complicating the matter by bringing in peoples presence of mind)

60s to late 70's I think. The battles wern't all that hard. (but sometimes if i havnt played in a while it might take me 2 goes). I just hope that I can save Zidanes trance for necron. But I always end up using it on Kuja. So I have to depend on his physical attacks and I use quinas frog drop.

*SPOILER*

I don't call her either Garnet nor Dagger, only Sarah, cause that's her real name ;)

*END SPOILER*

My characters were all around level 50 the first time i beat Kuja and Necron. They were about 66 when i beat Ozma. After level 70, Vile Island is the best place to train by far, cause 8000exp from the Grand Dragon just doesn't cut it when you need 100000 to level up. The Yan's can accomplish that in 2 fights, whereas you'd need like, 13 Grand Dragons. Yans aren't difficult after level 70 either.

My first FF9 file was so hilariously under-done... hadn't even done HALF the things I could have done in the game. But anyway. Levels for my Kuja team went something like:

ZIDANE - level 68
DAGGER - level 65
STEINER - level 59
VIVI - level 60

And I know I didn't even have the good stuff like Zidane's Ultima Weapon, Ark, or Flare or Doomsday.

Hellyeah. Especially if you just plain go in unprepared. I like to try to get through without reading tips/strategies, so my first fight with Necron was a huge, humbling, learning experience. XD I got my ass handed to me quite quickly. I can't remember what abilities I used, or what I had equipped, but I do remember that he took me more than one try to beat. Several tries to beat, actually.

I got Steiner, Amarant, Freya, Zidane and Quina Quen up to level 99, the others were nearly there but I just wanted to get to the end fast. It's not hard, I just kept fighting these red crabs near some waterfall. The trick is, weaken them all until onlyne crab is left, kill off all your members except the character you want to build and then kill the crab. Do this over and over, you'll get so much EXP for that single character, getting to level 99 will be a cinch. This also works for most of other FF games as well. Even Quina Quen was capable of beating them solo after awhile. :P

FFIX is really easy btw.

I was doing 9999 damage to Necron with each character, too bad crits didn't deal more damage as 9999 was the limit on how much damage you could do to him.

My party was: Amarant (with lots of Wing Blades), Steiner, Freya, Zidane

Isit really that hard to win kuja and necron?i did it wid my 1st try n i was around 40 level!I dont even have ark,the tower, ultimate weapon....etc..etc.I dont even have flare! My zidane damage per cut to necron was about 1000 coz i only have orichalon the 1st time i end the game but somehow i managed to win them!Btw,i suggest u all go try esto gaza for training,(im not sure wherter it is esto gaza or not)but the place is where u must defeat ark.inside the place, the was a lot of so called 'mirrors' which will replicte ur own character,u just continue to kill the character until the mirror could not produce another more replicate again.and thus u will gain a lot of exp n gil!Note that if u kill the replicate stone early,u wont gain much exp n gil!addition to that they are easy to defeat!even u let them to produce image of yr own which may cause fatal death but u gain a lot of exp!N it is far more easier to defeat tis feller rather u go find the grand dragon!
