Japanese RPGs are so much better, at least imo, yes Disgaea is good, as well as Phantom Brave.
Japanese RPGs only tend to be pseudo-RPGs with most real role-playing dynamics completely omitted. Compared to games like Knights of the Old Republic, Baldur's Gate, and other western games (mostly made by Bioware, I suppose), Japanese RPGs fall very short.

SE was giving out DQ8 Demos a little awhile ago. Not sure if they have the promotion still.
But hey, if you get Dragon Quest 8 (the retail game), you also get a FFXII Demo.
