Whilst playing FF8 I have run into the same problem over and over. On Disk 3 the disk seems to freeze when the missile launching FMV starts. Right as the launchers open up the PS goes on the fritz.

Is this to do with the disk or the console? I've finished the game using the game my brother played on PSX but I want to complete the whole game.

Can this be done on the obsolete PSone?

the first thing I'd suggest is cleaning the disk

What Sarah said, and if doesn't work try to clean the thing that reads the CD. (I forgot it's name.)
If that doesn't work try to use another FF8 from your friend.

I had that problem when I was watching the CGI outside of Dollet. It would just freeze up, and then stop, or sometimes just work right. Your best bet is what felipe said, but if that doesn't work, look online for a CD/Console fixer shop. One of my friend's PS2 started screwing up with the "bigger" (games with unbelievably good graphics) games. It turned out that the PS2 was the problem. If that doesn't work, then try borrowing or buying one.

When I was playing ff8, I had it freeze up on me twice while on disk 2 and once on disk 3. It wasn't the freezing that annoyed me so much as that it also corrupted my memory card file and I hard to start entirely over 2 out of those 3 times :-(

Final Fantasy VIII should play just fine on a PS2 with no problems and with good discs. The original poster is reporting a problem playing the game on the PSOne.

Read what I posted here a long time ago. It should help you. Please excuse my bad use of grammar and spelling though.

The same thing happened to me on FFVIII, FFIX and FF VII, ironically all during the CGI movies.
I believe it is a hardware problem as my discs were not scratched. They run just fine on the PS2 though.

What did you just contribute? Nothing. I don't even have to explain myself. You must have something personal against me anyway. Well you suck.
